The Trump administration has revoked over 6,000 student visas for overstays, criminal offences, and alleged terrorism links, a move critics say targets pro-Palestinian activism and threatens free speech on U.S. campuses.

00:00In the United States, over 6,000 international students have had their visas revoked so far this year, according to the State Department.
00:09The cancellations cover a mix of issues, visa overstays, run-ins with the law and some cases of alleged support for terrorism.
00:19Student visas have become a key focus in the Trump administration's wider immigration crackdown,
00:25with officials saying some foreign students promote ideas that go against U.S. foreign policy.
00:31Authorities have tightened screening, expanded social media checks,
00:35and instructed U.S. diplomats to scrutinize applicants seen as politically active or hostile.
00:41Of the 6,000 revoked visas, around 4,000 were for offenses such as assault, drunk driving and burglary.
00:48Between 200 and 300 were linked to alleged terrorism-related activities,
00:53including fundraising or support for Hamas, designated a terrorist organization by the U.S.
00:59Previously, President Donald Trump also clashed with leading U.S. universities,
01:03accusing them of harboring anti-Semitism during large campus protests in support of Palestinian rights.
