00:06as it prepares to expand social media vetting requirements.
00:10The suspension, if active immediately, is temporary and does not apply to applicants with existing appointments.
00:17The directive was reviewed in an internal cable signed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio
00:24and obtained by the Associated Press.
00:26The U.S. government had previously introduced social media screening measures,
00:30primarily targeting returning students suspected of joining protests against Israel's actions in Gaza.
00:37Meanwhile, the administration is moving to cancel all remaining federal contracts with Harvard University,
00:44collectively worth US$100 million, escalating a high-profile clash with the nation's wealthiest university.
00:51This follows a freeze of US$2.65 billion in grants,
00:57and a temporarily blocked attempt to strip Harvard of its ability to enroll international students.
01:03Students and faculty at Harvard have rallied in support of international students,
01:08while universities abroad, including in Hong Kong, Japan and China,
