‎Kepulauan Mentawai terletak sekitar 150 kilometer di lepas pantai barat Sumatra. Yang terdiri dari empat pulau utama, yaitu: Siberut, Sipora, Pagai Utara, dan Pagai Selatan, di tambah dengan ratusan pulau kecil di sekitarnya. Pulau Siberut adalah yang terbesar dan sering disebut sebagai 'surga yang hilang'.

05:21Mentawai Scops Owl, or Mentawai Owl.
05:24This owl has a distinctive sound and is only found in Mentawai.
05:30This small, cinnamon brown and slightly dark owl is the only owl,
05:36settlers in their limited distribution area.
05:39Inhabiting a variety of forested habitats, from pristine lowland rainforest,
05:44to plantations and forests around human habitation.
05:47Mentawai Pangolin, or Manis Javanica mentawaiensis,
05:56a very rare and endangered subspecies of pangolin.
06:01This animal is better known as pangolin, or piusing in Indonesia,
06:05is one of the animals that is distributed in mainland Southeast Asia.
06:10These scaly animals can be found in primary and secondary forests.
06:14Pangolins are animals that are active at night, or nocturnal,
06:20and usually live solitary, or alone,
06:24but there are also some that are found in pairs.
06:28Their habitat is in holes, made for example in tree trunks.
06:32Their main food is termites and ants, or insects,
06:36using its mucous-coated tongue.
06:44However, this Mentawai treasure is threatened by human activities.
06:49such as deforestation, poaching, and uncontrolled development.

07:00working hard to protect the Mentawai forests and their endemic species.
