00:00Open backfield now as the Patriots look to throw off a quick drop.
00:04Nearside throw and a big rush is put on as Brady is knocked down and is a penalty marker down.
00:09He could have a roughing the passer.
00:13Maybe a hole.
00:14It came very late.
00:15It might be a hole.
00:16Yeah, it's going to be roughing the passer.
00:19Not something you want to start a game with, Don.
00:21Last week the Broncos gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown.
00:25A penalty can put you in just as big a hole.
00:28Personal foul.
00:30Rubbing the passer.
00:31Ninety-five defense.
00:34Kavika Pittman has called for the personal foul.
00:38So Mike Shanahan sees an incomplete pass instead result in the first down for the Patriots.
00:43Well, that's one thing you do is young quarterback there, Tom Brady, went right to the head.
00:47And that's kind of a message, Don.
00:48Let's face it.
00:49They want to get inside the young quarterback's mind.
00:51They want to make sure he knows it's not going to be a day in the park like it was in Indianapolis a week ago.
00:55Well, Brian Greasy and Brady with high regard for each other.
01:00They competed for the starting job at Michigan.
01:03Greasy quarterbacking the team that shared the national championship in 97.
01:08Michigan and Nebraska co-national champs.
01:10Brady a backup.
01:12Brady went on to be Big Ten MVP.
01:13Here is a handoff now as the ball is given to Antoine Smith.
01:20And there's not a whole lot there.
01:21The Broncos have been having some problems stopping the run.
01:24Shut it down early.
01:24Washington, McLaughlin, Price, and Pittman across the defensive front.
01:33Mobley, Wilson, and the veteran Bill Romanowski, the linebacker.
01:36Those are three excellent linebackers.
01:38They can run, cover, and they can punish on a tackle.
01:42Hey, Vince, you're very concerned about Delta O'Neal, who had four interceptions in one game this season.
01:47Alex says you throw it to his side, it could be coming back at you.
01:51On a second down throw, a good pitch over the middle goes to Troy Brown.
01:55And Brown, with his 40th catch of the year, is taken down by Delta O'Neal.
02:00It brings up third down.
02:03You see, Troy Brown, a lot of people kind of raised their eyebrows last week
02:07when David Patton had a hand in four touchdowns, but this is the guy, Troy Brown is the guy
02:12the defenses worry about.
02:13He's a good receiver, a quality playmaker, and the emergence of David Patton
02:17is only going to make his life easier.
02:20Patton has certainly emerged last week with that phenomenal game.
02:24Two touchdown receptions, ran for one, threw for one against the Colts.
02:28Here's Brady, near side pro, nicely done to Mark Edwards, and the fullback takes it in.
02:33And Edwards, on a third down and a long two-play, gets it out to the 49-yard line.
02:38Again, on the play of about six yards and a first down.
02:41Well, this is what the Patriots would love to do on offense.
02:44Get the ball out of Brady's hands, make some first downs,
02:48and keep Brian Greasy and the Denver offense off the football field.
02:51The best way to take a crowd out of a game on the road is to just hang on to the football.
02:57Patriots have a measure of confidence here, Steve.
02:59As you know, last year, they won here at Denver, ending an 11-game losing streak in the Mile High City.
03:06Here's a throw.
03:07What a beautifully thrown ball and catch, as again, Troy Brown comes down with the ball.
03:12And Brown now gets the ball inside the 45-yard line.
03:16That was a good throw and a good catch.
03:18You see Troy Brown come across the middle.
03:20You'll watch, and you'll notice, look where his shadow is,
03:23and look where the ball comes right out of the sun.
03:25And he plucks it out of the air with a guy right on his back.
03:28Good coverage by Eric Brown, but that's a great throw and catch.
03:31Tough to defend.
03:32Brown with, after the San Diego game, when the Patriots rallied from 10 points down to win,
03:3710 points down with five minutes to play,
03:40he said that Brady wouldn't let any of us believe we could lose the game.
03:44Here's a hand up to Brown.
03:46Turning up field, he finds a gap, and Brown is in the open field.
03:50Moving on the Bronco defense as he is down now inside the 15-yard line.
03:56So when it looked like he was caught and stopped,
03:59Troy Brown finds a way and gets ahead for a 31-yard gain.
04:03Well, this play looked like it was ill-fated from the start.
04:06He kind of, he'll come in mushy, kind of looks hesitant as he comes across, gets the pass.
04:10And right here, the Denver Broncos guys say, we've got him.
04:12Three guys are right there, and then he cuts back against the green.
04:15And you see here, that's the difference.
04:17He's just very patient with the football in his hands.
04:20Not something you can see with a wide receiver.
04:22Greg Robinson-Randall, the right tackle with a huge block.
04:26The spring, Troy Brown.
04:27So now the Patriots challenging on their opening possession.
04:30Brady, deep drop, looks to screen the ball.
04:32He does.
04:33Antoine Smith has taken down from behind by the middle backer, Al Wilson.
04:38Real strength to these good Bronco backers.
04:41His great foot speed.
04:42They can run anybody down.
04:43But it was plus yardage as the ball has advanced down to about the 9-yard line.
04:47You said it, Don.
04:48That was, that was Al Wilson.
04:50Al Wilson is a middle linebacker.
04:51And usually those are the guys that come up to the line of scrimmage and tackle the running back between the tackles.
04:56But these three guys, Bill Romanowski, Al Wilson, and John Mobley, they can run and they're very good veterans.
05:02They know what's going on out there.
05:04Well, he ran them down from behind, but it was a 4-yard gain.
05:07Brady is now 4-4 throwing the ball for 22 yards in this opening drive.
05:12Another quick out.
05:14This one comes to the near side.
05:16And Curtis Jackson, one of the fastest Patriots, is knocked out of bounds at about the 6-yard line.
05:22So that will bring up 3rd down.
05:24And the Patriots will need 2 yards for the first down.
05:28I think it's interesting that since Tom Brady has taken over, Don, you see all the receivers getting involved,
05:34especially with the absence of Terry Glenn, who's inactive today.
05:37Tom Brady, your backup quarterback, doesn't have that history with the team.
05:41He doesn't see players evolve into his comfort zone.
05:43So he comes in and tries everybody.
05:45And right now, they're all coming through for him.
05:47He sees the field.
05:48He spreads the ball around.
05:50Now the handoff, and Antoine Smith is stopped.
05:54No gain.
05:55Maybe a loss of 2 yards on the play.
05:57On 3rd down, they don't get there, so the field goal unit comes out.
06:02Adam Venatieri having another good year for the Patriots.
06:05He's hit 10 of 11 field goals.
06:08This is not much longer than an extra point drive.
06:10You see right there, the line of scrimmage is just controlled by the defensive line of the Broncos.
06:15Chester McLaughlin just refused to be pushed.
06:18And Antoine Smith had nowhere to run that football.
06:21They just dominated the point of attack.
06:2425-yard field goal attempt by Venatieri.
06:28It is on the way and on the road.
06:30The Patriots take an early 3-0 lead as their quarterback, Tom Brady,
06:34with a lot of timing patterns and 5 of 5 throws for 26 yards in the drive.
06:40Let's go and Brady talking it over.
06:46Let's go said, I'm going to do everything I can to help him.
06:50Bill Belichick's going to play the best quarterback when I come back,
06:53and I intend to be the best quarterback, but they are very good friends.
06:56There's no quarterback controversy in New England.
06:58Here is Chris Cole running back the kickoff for the Broncos, and he is struck.
07:02Still, he breaks a tackle and gets ahead to the 28-yard line.
07:06Down there to slow him up, though, was to Bucky Jones.
07:11And so, the Broncos will go on offense for the first time when we come back.

07:31And by Bud Light.
07:33For the great taste that won't fit you up and never lets you down,
07:36make it a Bud Light.
07:37Back to beautiful Invesco Field at mile high
07:43as the Broncos come out on offense first and ten.
07:48The Patriots have now scored
07:50in ten of their last 13 possessions with Brady and quarterback.
07:54Here is a throw over the middle.
07:55The ball is caught.
07:56Nicely done by the Broncos as they advance the ball for not a lot.
08:00Gain of about four yards.
08:02Ryan Cox is quickly on the receiver.
08:04Carswell, the tight end.
08:06Ryan Greasy now in his fourth year for Michigan,
08:08a third-round draft choice.
08:11These Michigan quarterbacks don't get drafted high,
08:13but, man, can they play?
08:14They really can.
08:15And Brian Greasy really needs some help
08:16from the rest of the guys on his team.
08:18They need to get a running game going
08:19and take some of the pressure off him
08:22to produce every single week.
08:24As he said, Steve,
08:25everybody's trying to play the perfect game,
08:27and you can't do that.
08:27We've got to realize there's going to be mistakes,
08:30and we have to bounce back from them,
08:31not get tight about it.
08:32We've got to get the game back to playing
08:34and having fun again.
08:35As the handoff to Mike Anderson
08:37is for a short yardage.
08:40There's the offensive front of the Broncos.
08:42Teague, Friedman,
08:43four-time pro bowler from Boston College,
08:45Tom Nalen,
08:46Neal,
08:47and Lepsis.
08:50Nalen,
08:50the anchor of the line.
08:51Anderson and Hape,
08:53the runner and fullback.
08:55Smith and Kenneth in the wideouts.
08:56Carswell at tight end.
08:58Third down.
08:59Recy and the Broncos needing four.
09:04Nearside throw.
09:05Nicely done,
09:06and so was the tackle
09:07as the takedown is short of the first down marker.
09:10Rob Smith catching his league-high 50-second pass,
09:14but Ty Law was right on him,
09:15so there's no first down,
09:17and the Broncos have to punt the ball.
09:18Defensive front on the 3-4 set
09:24of the England Patriots,
09:26Hamilton, Mitchell, and Pleasant.
09:28The four linebackers,
09:29Rabel, Cox, Johnson, and Pfeiffer.
09:31Law and Buckley at the corners.
09:35Jones and the Lloyd,
09:35the safeties.
09:37Now the punt.
09:38Kevin Falk is back deep.
09:43Ball is hit downfield and Falk
09:45will run it back in his 29.
09:46If he can feel the ball,
09:47he can that.
09:48So,
09:49not a great day for Falk.
09:50The opening kickoff,
09:51he was almost taken out of the game
09:53with a hit-high hit.
09:54Now he fumbles this one,
09:56but does fall on the 43-hour punt
09:58and no return.
10:01Back to Invesco Field at Mile High.
10:05Don Crickie with Steve Tasker.
10:07The Patriots scoring on their opening drive
10:09as they went 74 yards in 10 plays.
10:12Delving in the field goal
10:13by Venatieri.
10:15Brady,
10:16perfect throwing the ball.
10:175 of 5.
10:1826 yards.
10:19He hit four different receivers.
10:21Standing in again.
10:22Another throw,
10:22another catch.
10:23Troy Brown
10:23putting moves on.
10:25And Brown breaks it down the sideline,
10:27and now a penalty marker's fired in.
10:29Could be a face mask
10:30as the Broncos try to defend him.
10:33We talked to the Broncos yesterday.
10:36The guy they were most concerned about,
10:37the name they pointed out
10:39more than any other,
10:40was Troy Brown.
10:41And you saw it on that play,
10:42and there's a desperation face mask
10:44trying to get their hands on him.
10:45And I think the fact that Tom Brady
10:49is six for six.
10:50Personal foul.
10:51Grasping and twisting the face mask.
10:5424th.
10:55Defense.
10:5615-yard penalty.
10:59And Brady at this point,
11:00if this pass is six for six
11:02on the day,
11:03and you see there's the face mask.
11:05It's not that bad,
11:06and there's another one.
11:07But Tom Brady is just playing
11:09so mistake-free,
11:11and they're just dinking it down the field.
11:13There's a huge confidence boost
11:14for this offense.
11:15I think Brady is the key to it.
11:17The guy is as cool in the pocket
11:19as you can find.
11:20That's it was a 33-yard plus
11:22for the New England Patriots.
11:2418 yards on the pass play,
11:2615 more on the penalty.
11:28So the Patriots driving again.
11:31Brady swings the ball out beautifully,
11:33makes the connection,
11:34and darting ahead
11:35and inside the 30-yard line
11:37down to the 28-yard line
11:38is the Kevin Spock
11:40out of the backfield.
11:42You know,
11:42this offense is really blossoming.
11:45Brady's hit four different receivers,
11:47actually maybe five now,
11:48and there you see
11:48Drew Bledsoe is in uniform today
11:50for the first time
11:52since his injury
11:53in the Jet game
11:54so many weeks ago.
11:56Yeah, he was throwing
11:56before the game.
11:57the emergency quarterback today.
12:00The backup will be Damon Heward.
12:04Pitch back.
12:05Ball gone second and short.
12:06He breaks into the secondary.
12:08He does get ahead
12:08for a nut for a first down.
12:11As Pittman makes the knockdown,
12:14but the Patriots continue
12:15to move the ball
12:16down after down.
12:17Is this Brady's brunt?
12:18Well, look what they've done
12:19with Tom Brady,
12:20a quarterback,
12:20a three-and-one record,
12:21which is really the only number
12:22that matters.
12:24But the scoring is up so much.
12:25Yeah, and this is it too.
12:26With five touchdowns,
12:27he hasn't thrown an interception
12:28coming into the day.
12:29He had 134 tries
12:31coming into the day.
12:32Still hasn't thrown an interception
12:33and is perfect today.
12:34What more can you say
12:35about the guy?
12:36When you watch him,
12:38he really is a lot like
12:39a tall Joe Montana.
12:41He has the same look out there.
12:43Quick setting up.
12:44And he sees the whole field,
12:46every snap.
12:48This is the market.
12:49Great ones beyond accuracy.
12:51Spotting the guys coming open.
12:53Another penalty.
12:55Prior to the snap,
12:56false start,
12:5777.
12:58Offense,
12:59five-yard penalty.
13:01Field for the snap.
13:03Well, Coleman,
13:03our referee,
13:04and Bill Belichick
13:05sees Mike Compton
13:06call for the penalty
13:07as left guard.

13:18Here we go.
13:19You know,
13:19it seems so simple
13:20when you see a good offense worker,
13:22at least an offense
13:22that's being effective.
13:23If the quarterback,
13:24all he has to do
13:25is just make the right decision.
13:27And Brady has done that
13:29for a month.
13:32198 players
13:33picked ahead of him
13:33in the draft in 2000.
13:36Here's the throw.
13:37Open man.
13:37A connection.
13:38Touchdown.
13:39As the perfect pass play
13:41is executed by the Patriots.
13:43The touchdown maker,
13:44David Patton,
13:45in the end zone again.
13:47That's five touchdowns
13:48in less than the last five quarters.
13:50A 30-yard throw,
13:53which is as good a throw
13:54as you can make
13:54in any level of football.
13:56It was perfect.
13:57That was an absolute strike.
14:00Brady finds Patton
14:01behind the defense,
14:02watches he trumps back
14:03the play-action pass
14:05and he looks out to his right
14:06then throws it
14:06right down the hash mark.
14:09They tackle him
14:10right on the goal line
14:10and that is a touchdown.
14:11This play was beautifully conceived.
14:13They've been running
14:14very conservative offense
14:15through their first two series
14:17and then hit them
14:17for the big one
14:18when they got down close.
14:19A 30-yard big one
14:20and now looking
14:21to extend the lead
14:22to 10 to nothing
14:23is Adam Vanateri out there.
14:25David Patton,
14:26a wonderful story.
14:27A guy who four years ago
14:28was loading sacks of coffee
14:31into trucks
14:32down in North Carolina.
14:34600 sacks a day
14:36he and his partner would load.
14:38But he's living a dream life now
14:41and he's in the end zone again
14:42and the Patriots,
14:43underdogs on the road,
14:45all of a sudden
14:45break out to a 10-0 lead
14:47on the perfect play
14:48of quarterback Brady.
14:50Eight of eight
14:51throwing the ball.
