00:00Hi, I'm Daniel Flynn out for Rock and Roll Trips. We are at John K. King Books, like the mother of all bookstores.
00:07Has anybody seen Joel? Joel?
00:10It is I! Ha ha ha! With my book made camouflage cake! Ha ha!
00:18It's a bookstore, Joel, so you gotta bring it down a little bit.
00:20Oh, that's right. Okay, kind of like libraries.
00:24I brought my reading glasses.
00:26Oh my god, before we get kicked out of here, let's give you a little ground.
00:32Something to look at. Thank you.
00:36These are just the books that are on the second floor.
00:38Yes, just the second floor.
00:41We could go to Science and Home Improvement, and also I'm a big fan of Zoology.
00:48I love cotton.
00:49Yeah.
00:49We're here in one of the history sections of John K. King Books.
00:53This sucker is four stories tall.
00:57So he didn't start out in this building.
00:59He actually started out like it was a suggestion from his counselor at his mom's school that like...
01:04Because he had a passion for books as a kid.
01:06Right. That's amazing. Look at you, Joel.
01:09So, and I want to say the 1980s, then he moved the store to the current building that it's in here on Lafayette.
01:15Yeah. This was a glove company, and there had always been rumors that like this building was moved to its current location.
01:23And what happened, Joel?
01:25Well, someone actually brought in some photographs of the building and the process of being moved in the 90s
01:29and proved that it is absolutely true that this building has been moved in the past.
01:34How do you move up building this thing? It houses over one million books today.
01:38I mean, I'm sure it was empty at the time, but still, you know, what do you like, you know,
01:43attaching your trunk to the back of the chain? I don't think so.
01:45It was probably, they, somebody probably wrote a book about it.
01:49It's on the fourth floor. We'll have to go check that out. It's for the brave people.
01:52So, we wanted to check out what is in the highest back corner of John K. King's book.
01:58So, like, I guess, wouldn't you think they would put the book that people are least likely to want or check into?
02:05And I found this complete pregnancy baby book, and I'm like, you can make pregnant ladies come up there on the fourth floor in the back corner of John K. King's book.
02:13It's baby bogey, she.
02:16This, you're bogey. Stop.
02:18You took the stairs up, but Nico, you said that there's an elevator behind this door.
02:25So, the building's over 100 years old.
02:28How good should I feel about this elevator?
02:31I'm completely confident in the elevator.
02:32I like to call it, like, our little secret roller coaster, but it's, it's nothing to worry about.
02:38I don't want to come on in.
02:39Nico did say it gets looked at every year.
02:41Check this out. Oh, my gosh.
02:45Let's talk about old school.
02:48So, talk about manual operation.
02:52You gotta, yeah.
02:54All right, what are we going to?
02:56The ground floor, please.
02:57All right, let's do it.
02:58Right, we're lazy.
02:59We're totally, we're taking that.
03:01Yeah, yeah, I definitely recommend the one on this, too.
03:04Yeah, yeah.
03:06The line is shorter than Cedar Point.
03:09That's true.
03:10You don't need a fast pass.
03:11We, you are a fast pass.
03:13Yeah, we know Nico.
03:14Right?
03:15All right, so you can see, as we come up on the, on the next floor, so that would be the second floor mark.
03:21And then Nico has to face the back of the elevator in order to see where to stop this thing.
03:28And sometimes, I don't see if I get it.
03:31And right on.
03:32We believe in you.
03:34Ooh, you look good.
03:35Yeah, you look good.
03:36Yeah, there's alignment right there.
03:38All right.
03:39Look at that.
03:39Oh, my God.
03:40The weird, the wild, the wonderful Rockin' Road Trips with 94.7 WCSX.
03:47When you get back from a rockin' road trip, nothing hits the spot like a cold Faygo pop.
03:53Faygo, the one true pop.
