Can Trinidad and Tobago earn more foreign exchange via increased international air traffic?

Well, that's one suggestion by the Transport and Civil Aviation Minister for increasing forex revenue.

00:00Transport Minister Eli Zakour received an extensive briefing from the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority's Director General Carrie Price on Monday, according to a statement from the newly formed Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
00:15The Ministry said Minister Zakour commended the authority's diligent efforts and identified several priority areas for strategic development. And as the new government, led by Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besessa, has stated its intentions to deal with the challenges many in Trinidad and Tobago are facing in accessing foreign exchange, the Transport Ministry noted that Minister Zakour made an apparent reference to that issue.
00:42The Ministry said that the Transport Minister, quote, emphasized the need to make the local aviation industry more robust and competitive. He emphasized that these initiatives have the potential to boost the nation's foreign exchange earnings through increased international air traffic, maintenance service of foreign carriers, employment opportunities, etc., end quote.
01:06The Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry said that during the detailed briefing that Minister Zakour received, the Director General of Civil Aviation highlighted the Civil Aviation Authority's key responsibilities, including specialized aviation training programs, management of the Caribbean Air Navigation and Advisory Services Limited, oversight of 750,000 square miles of airspace, and other critical functions.
01:33The Minister met with the Director General and other civil aviation officials at the authority's headquarters in Piakou.
01:40According to its website, the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority regulates, in accordance with the Civil Aviation Act or other written law, civil aviation operations in Trinidad and Tobago, the operation of Trinidad and Tobago aircraft, and the operation of maintenance organizations in respect of aircraft on the Trinidad and Tobago Register.
01:59The Civil Aviation Authority is responsible for providing an adequate system of air traffic services in the Piakou flight information region and such other airspace as may be the subject of a treaty or an agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and any other state or organization.
02:17The Civil Aviation Authority is also responsible for carrying out an investigation of any aircraft accident occurring in or over Trinidad and Tobago or in relation to any Trinidad and Tobago aircraft.
02:28The Civil Aviation Authority's website also says it is responsible for the development of civil aviation and the maintenance of a civil aviation system that is consistent with national security policy.
