Police in South Australia have revealed more details of the allegations against an 18-year-old man accused of repeatedly making serious threats against an Adelaide high school. The man is also alleged to have threatened violent attacks on major public events including the AFL's gather round. His arrest follows a lengthy investigation, and police say the danger is now contained.

00:00A case which has shocked students, parents and authorities.
00:06I met with the police commissioner on the evening of May 2nd and was briefed on probably the most complex and significant case I've ever received a briefing on in my capacity as either Premier or previously as Police Minister.
00:20The 18 year old was arrested on Wednesday and is facing several charges including blackmail after allegedly making repeated and detailed threats to Glanunga International High School in Adelaide's east.
00:32Yeah it's really concerning about that so.
00:34The alleged threats towards the school began in November last year and continued through to February with police saying the teenager demanded more than $20 million in Bitcoin and cash.
00:44We were continuously conducting a risk assessment. We were satisfied that the timing was appropriate under the circumstances and that we were mitigating any risk by the methodologies that we were using at that time.
00:56A police prosecutor told the court the sender nominated himself as being the prophet of justice and a hero to cleanse and renew the corrupted institution known publicly as the Glanunga High School and that there was
01:08a violent attack planned for South Australia and Jews. The alleged threats involved building bombs that could injure visitors at major events including the Fringe Festival and the AFL Gather Round.
01:18He's also accused of testing homemade explosives and conducting experiments with a poison he planned to inject into food. Police say the teen was adept at computers and hacking.
01:29The threats the man is alleged to have made targeted students and staff of the school. Some were graphic in nature and the ABC has chosen not to publish the details of those.
01:40Extra security measures are now in place at the school.
01:43The school has also trained them, the students, how to tackle the situation and what to do in case of emergencies.
01:51And authorities say the threat is contained.
01:53So this is an ongoing investigation in the matters before the court. We are comfortable that we have contained the threat at the moment.
