00:09Behind the gates of Frontierland is the inspirational America of the past century.
00:15Here is the treasure of our native folklore.
00:18The songs, tales and legends of the big men who built the land.
00:22Almost one year after the 1955 opening day,
00:31the first of several railroad attractions began chugging through Frontierland's wilderness.
00:36Ultimately, this land would one day be traversed by the high-speed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
00:41Back in the 1950s, it was explored at the more sedate speeds of the mine train,
00:46a common nickname for the Rainbow Cavern's mine train.
00:49Built for under half a million dollars, guests sat in open cargo cars
00:53behind a small old-fashioned engine ran by an electric motor.
00:57Board the mine train for a trip into the living desert and through beautiful rainbow caverns.
01:02As your train enters the hot, arid desert, take a look at those cacti.
01:07Why, they almost look human.
01:08Watch out for those balancing rocks.
01:11Uh-oh, they are rolling around.
01:13Let us hope they stay up there.
01:15When Walt first rode the train, he was unhappy with the spiel
01:18and had Van Arsdale, France rewrite it.
01:20To keep the train from going too fast,
01:22conductors braked the train by releasing sand onto the wheels.
01:26The Rainbow Cavern's waterfall circulated over 270,000 gallons of water every hour
01:32to create the multicolored waterfalls.
01:34Cars were painted black, green, and blue.
01:36Howdy, partner.
01:38This here is Rainbow Ridge.
01:41And for fun and excitement, you'll never forget.
01:44Why don't you take a mine train ride?
01:47Reckon you'll agree there's nothing like the Rainbow Caverns in the whole wide world.
01:53Aboard our little mine train, you'll head out through a natural arch bridge
01:58and into Rainbow Desert, a wasteland just chock-full of thrilling surprises.
02:05Rattlers, a pesky coyote, and some of the strangest-looking cactus you ever laid eyes on.

02:18Then you'll plunge deep into the darkness of Rainbow Caverns
02:22for a sight that'll thrill you right down to your toes.
02:26Tons and tons of water, every color of the rainbow,
02:31pouring down from above on every side.

04:22from back east.
04:24This natural bridge was created
04:26by centuries of rain, wind, and sandstorms.
04:29Of course, Mr. Disney helped nature along a little.
04:32At the base of those distant buttes,
04:44old Maul Coyote has set up house keeping.
04:48Keep your hands inside the cars, folks.
