00:00A Thai imam pleaded not guilty at the Ayyar Kero Sessions Court on Wednesday

00:05to a charge of sexually assaulting a teenage boy.

00:09The offence allegedly took place without the 13-year-old victim's consent in Bukit Rambai

00:14on the night of February 20.

00:17The 28-year-old accused, who is also a teacher at a religious school,

00:21was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code,

00:24which carries a prison sentence of between 5 and 20 years

00:28and whipping if found guilty.

00:31The court granted bail of 15,000 ringgit with two Malaysian sureties

00:35and imposed additional conditions to refrain from contacting the victim

00:39and to also surrender his international passport to the court.

00:44The court also ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station

00:47on the 1st of each month and set June 10 for the next case mention.
