00:00A 36-year-old Arabic class teacher has claimed trial at the Malacca Sessions Court to two
00:08counts of sexual assault against an underage boy.
00:12Abdul Halim Ismail was charged before Judge Rohatul Akhmar Abdullah on Monday.
00:17For the first offense, he was charged under Section 14, Subsection A of the Sexual Offenses
00:22Against Children Act, 2017, for allegedly touching the private parts of the 11-year-old
00:29boy for sexual purposes.
00:32This section carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
00:36Meanwhile, for the second offense, Abdul Halim was charged for allegedly touching his own
00:42private parts to ejaculate in the presence of the same victim for sexual gratification.
00:48For this offense, he was charged under Section 15, Subsection C of the Sexual Offenses Against
00:54Children Act, 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine of 20,000 or both
01:02upon conviction.
01:04Both the offenses were allegedly committed at a hotel in Malacca Tenga District on July
01:0918 last year.
01:11Bail has been set at $15,000 for both charges and the court has set September 12 for the
01:17next mention date.
