00:00Look, I go there with the expectation of constructive, difficult, but constructive discussions.
00:07That's the spirit of the conversations that the President and I had.
00:12You know, you go to these meetings well prepared, understanding the objectives of your counterpart,
00:19and always acting in the best interest of Canada.
00:23On Tuesday, I had a very constructive call with President Trump,
00:27and we agreed to meet next Tuesday in Washington.
00:32Our focus will be on both immediate trade pressures
00:36and the broader future economic and security relationship between our two sovereign countries.
00:43My government will fight to get the best deal for Canada.
00:46We will take all the time necessary, but not more, in order to do so.
00:53In parallel, we will strengthen our relationships with reliable trading partners and allies.
00:58Canada has what the world needs, and we uphold the values.
01:04How do you avoid an Oval Office ambush like we saw happen to President Zelensky?
01:09Look, I go there with the expectation of constructive, difficult, but constructive discussions.
01:16That's the spirit of the conversations that the President and I had.
01:22You know, you go to these meetings well prepared, understanding the objectives of your counterpart,
01:28and always acting in the best interest of Canada.
01:31Follow, because there is a long list, let's try and keep the questions as short as possible.
01:36We'll start with Ashley Burke from CBC.
01:38Good morning, Prime Minister.
01:40What specifically do you want to get out of your first in-person meeting with President Trump,
01:44and will you be focused on trying to get the tariffs lifted?
01:48Thank you for the question.
01:50For the first meeting, as I mentioned in my remarks, and the President and I discussed when we had our constructive call,
01:58there are two sets of issues.
02:00There are the immediate tariffs, both sectoral and so-called reciprocal and fentanyl tariffs,
02:06and then there is the broader relationship.
02:08So addressing both sets of issues, we'll see how that progress goes.
02:13It's important to get engaged immediately, which has always been my intention, has always been his intention,
02:20and I'm pleased to have the opportunity for quite a comprehensive set of meetings.
