In a fiery press briefing, U.S. President Donald Trump openly mocked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, labeling him “nasty” in a pointed remark that drew gasps from journalists. Carney, seemingly unfazed, responded with a subtle wink, adding a surprising layer of humor to the tense exchange. The interaction, widely covered by international media, highlights the unusual and personal tone of Trump’s diplomacy, raising eyebrows about the evolving dynamics between the U.S. and Canadian leadership.

00:00I think he's a great prime minister. I mean, he could represent me any time.
00:04I will tell you, you know, I'm not saying that because he's...
00:06No, he is a very strong, very good leader.
00:10He's a nice man, but he could be nasty.
00:13He could be very nasty. Maybe as nasty as anybody.
00:16So then, what's holding things up?
00:17If he's a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren't you?
00:20Because I want to be a great man, too.
00:25I think he's a great prime minister.
00:27I mean, he could represent me any time.
00:29I will tell you, you know, I'm not saying that because he's...
00:32No, he is a very strong, very good leader.
00:35He's a nice man, but he could be nasty.
00:38He could be very nasty. Maybe as nasty as anybody.
00:41So then, what's holding things up?
00:43If he's a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren't you?
00:46Because I want to be a great man, too.
00:51And now, and I'm running out of time, but this is, in many respects, the most important.
00:56The merger of Canada and the United States.
00:59That wasn't where I was going.
01:02It's an honor to have the prime minister of Canada, Mark Carney, who I have made very popular.
01:09He's an extremely popular prime minister.
01:12And I'm very honored to do it because I liked him.
01:14Right from the beginning, I've liked him.
01:16And we've had a good relationship.
01:18We have some natural conflict, but we will probably work that out.
01:22But we've had a very strong relationship.
01:25And your hosting of the various countries that showed up, that was a beautiful job you did.
01:30And I appreciate it very much.
01:32We're going to be talking about trade.
01:34We're going to be talking about a lot of different things.
01:36We'll certainly be talking about Gaza.
01:37We're in very serious negotiations to, I guess you could say, depending on the way you count, 3,000 years.
01:46You could say 500 years.
01:48You could say, but that it's been raging for a long time.
01:51And I think there's a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East.
01:55It's something even beyond the Gaza situation.
01:59We want a release of the hostages immediately, et cetera.
02:03And so our team is over there now.
02:06Another team just left.
02:07And other countries, literally every country in the world has supported the plan.
02:12I don't think there's anybody that hasn't, actually.
02:15Not that I've seen.
02:17But there's a real chance that we could do something.
02:20So you may have some questions on that later.
02:22But in the meantime, we'll spend some time and we'll make some deals.
02:26And we'll do some things that are good for both of our countries.
02:29And Mark, it's an honor to have you.
02:30Thank you very much.
02:31Thank you very much, Mr. President.
