U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of a U.S.-Canada merger during a high-profile meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Carner. Trump’s remarks, which appeared half-joking yet politically charged, suggested that Canada could “one day become the 51st state.” The comment sparked a flurry of reactions across both nations, igniting debate over sovereignty, trade, and North American unity. While no formal discussions on integration are underway, Trump’s provocative statement has drawn global attention and stirred speculation about his broader geopolitical ambitions.

00:00Mr. President, if I may, you kindly hosted me and some of my colleagues a few months ago,
00:05and I said at the time, you are a transformative president.
00:10And since then, the transformation in the economy,
00:14unprecedented commitments of NATO partners to defense spending,
00:17peace from India, Pakistan through to Azerbaijan, Armenia,
00:22disabling Iran as a force of terror,
00:24and now, and I'm running out of time, but this is, in many respects, the most important.
00:28The merger of Canada and the United States.
00:33I'm not like, that wasn't where I was going.
00:35I would, no, but I, you know, on this side.
00:37Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, who I have made very popular.
00:42He's an extremely popular prime minister, and I'm very honored to do it,
00:46because I liked him. Right from the beginning, I liked him, and we've had a good relationship.
00:51We have some natural conflict, but we will probably work that out.
00:55But we've had a very strong relationship.
00:57Well, thank you very much, everybody.
00:59It's an honor to have the prime minister of Canada, Mark Carney,
01:04who I have made very popular.
01:06He's an extremely popular prime minister, and I'm very honored to do it,
01:10because I liked him.
01:11Right from the beginning, I've liked him, and we've had a good relationship.
01:15We have some natural conflict, but we will probably work that out.
01:19But we've had a very strong relationship.
01:22And your hosting of the various countries that showed up, that was a beautiful job you did,
01:27and I appreciate it very much.
01:29We're going to be talking about trade.
01:31We're going to be talking about a lot of different things.
01:33We'll certainly be talking about Gaza.
01:34We're in very serious negotiations to, I guess you could say, depending on the way you count,
01:423,000 years.
01:43You could say 500 years.
01:45You could say, but that it's been raging for a long time.
01:48And I think there's a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East.
01:52It's something even beyond the Gaza situation.
01:56We want a release of the hostages immediately, etc.
02:00And so our team is over there now.
02:03Another team just left.
02:04And other countries, literally every country in the world has supported the plan.
02:09I don't think there's anybody that hasn't, actually.
02:12Not that I've seen.
02:14But there's a real chance that we could do something.
02:17So you may have some questions on that later.
02:19But in the meantime, we'll spend some time and we'll make some deals
02:23and we'll do some things that are good for both of our countries.
02:26And Mark, it's an honor to have you.
02:27Thank you very much.
02:28Thank you very much, Mr. President.

02:53And now, and I'm running out of time, but this is, in many respects, the most important.
02:58The merger of Canada and the United States.
03:01That wasn't where I was going.
03:04I would, no, but I, you know, on this, on this solemn day of commemoration of the October,
03:10horrific attacks of October 7th, for the first time in decades, hundreds of years, thousands of years,
03:17this prospect of peace that you've made possible, Canada stands foursquare behind those efforts
03:23and we'll do whatever we can to support them.
03:25Very nice.
03:25Thank you very much.
03:27Any questions?
03:28Mr. President, we've got your question.
03:30Mr. President.
03:30Mr. President.
03:31Is there any, what would it take for you to drop or lower your tariffs on Canadian sectors,
03:37including aluminum and steel?
03:38Well, we're going to be talking about that with the Prime Minister.
03:41We'll be talking about tariffs.
03:43We'll be talking about a lot of that.
03:44But that's for a little bit later on.
03:46Has the Prime Minister...
03:47Mr. President, I want to just acknowledge our great ambassador.
03:51Is he doing a good job?
03:52He's doing a good job.
03:53Otherwise, I'll get him out of there so far.
