Trinidad and Tobago's ninth Prime Minister has warned the Government to treat everyone fairly and avoid corrupt ways or face swift retribution.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-BIssessar made the declaration after she took her oath of office today which was followed by the swearing in of her new Attorney General, a man who once served as the AG in a past PNM led Government.

00:00I think you all know there is nothing more dangerous than a mother who believes her children are in danger.
00:09Everyone would be wise to remember that for the next five years.
00:15Trinidad and Tobago's ninth prime minister, Kamala Prasad, besets his message to her incoming cabinet members,
00:20elected and non-elected members of parliament and other government representatives during her first speech as the head of the government.
00:26After having taken her oath of office, holding up a copy of the constitution,
00:31the new prime minister declared, quote, patriotism is ensuring everybody is treated fairly, unquote.
00:38It means not staying silent to eat your food while poor and working classes are being abused or taken advantage of.
00:46Therefore, if you, as government reps, treat the citizens with love, I will reflect that love unto you.
00:54However, when I say this to my incoming government members, however, if you treat citizens with callousness, contempt and corrupt ways,
01:06I guarantee you, your retribution will be swift and brutal.
01:11Prime Minister Prasad, besets her advice to those in her new administration to never mistake her physical appearance or her kindness for weakness.
01:18After demitting this office of prime minister in 2015, for the last 10 years, I was a woman scorned, a pariah to many,
01:31because on their eyes, I had nothing material to give.
01:33For 10 years, my companionship was a photo of my mother and father hanging on my wall in my office,
01:46and my husband and children, and indeed, the many loyal, dedicated, rank-and-file UNC members.
01:55Senior Consul Prasad Besetsa returns to government after having spent 10 years in opposition.
02:00The prime minister's tone was one of inclusiveness, no matter which party persons who voted in the general election voted for.
02:10If you're UNC, if you're TPP, PNM, PEP, or any other affiliation, I see you.
02:18You'll be treated equally and fairly.
02:22I made a promise that everybody will win, and I plan to fulfill that promise.
02:28And in an apparent demonstration of that promise, Prime Minister Prasad Besetsa chose a former attorney general
02:35under past PNM administration, Senior Counsel John Jeremy, to be the new attorney general
02:40under her second UNC-led administration.
02:43The prime minister announced that the rest of her cabinet will be sworn in on Saturday.
