00:00General ladies, time's expired. Who else seeks recognition?
00:04General ladies from Texas is recognized for five minutes.
00:08I'd like to first associate my, or associate the gentle ladies, my remarks with the gentle ladies' remarks,
00:16because some things just should not be debatable.
00:20And one of the things that we know is that the Constitution is really supposed to be a guiding light.
00:28And the reason that we're having to do amendments like this one and the other one
00:35and talk about things such as due process and the Constitution
00:39is because we could actually avoid maybe detaining or sending away U.S. citizens
00:47if we just gave them their due process rights.
00:51Because I'm tired of hearing, oh, they made a mistake.
00:54Well, guess what? That mistake may cost somebody their job.
00:58That mistake may cost somebody their home.
01:01That mistake may cost somebody actually being able to still have their child.
01:07Because authorities may be called.
01:09Because that person is now not showing up to pick up their child.
01:13Or some people don't have the privilege of having a salary job
01:17where whether they show up or not, they're still going to get paid.
01:21Some people need to be at work.
01:23And so if you care about U.S. citizens, we know how y'all feel about immigrants.
01:27But if you care about U.S. citizens, I don't understand why this would be debatable.
01:32Because if there's anybody that we're fighting for, all supposed to be fighting for,
01:37it should be U.S. citizens.
01:38In fact, it's U.S. citizens that are the ones that send us here.
01:42Not Donald Trump.
01:43So with that, we should be looking out.
01:47We should have their back.
01:48And we should say, as the federal government,
01:51we will not do things that are directly going to disenfranchise our citizens.
01:59And that's exactly what this is.
02:02But if we just followed the Constitution and gave people their due process rights,
02:06then maybe they could show up and prevent some of these mistakes.
02:09And maybe these mistakes that maybe seem so small to y'all,
02:14because maybe the people that are being targeted have a little bit more melanin.
02:18So maybe we don't care about the mistakes that happen with some of those folks.
02:23I don't really understand.
02:25But I'm tired.
02:27And frankly, I think y'all should be tired, too.
02:32Because I think no matter what district you come from,
02:36if you were to survey your district,
02:38there is no one in your district that would say that we should spend money on ICE.
02:46ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement,
02:50to detain or deport, which you can't even deport,
02:53detain and kidnap, or detain and whatever,
03:00unlawfully restrain a U.S. citizen.
03:05Not anyone in your district would actually support that.
03:08I would put money on it.
03:09And so this absolutely should be a no-brainer.
03:12And I thank you to the gentlelady from the state of Washington
03:16for proposing just common sense,
03:18which seems like it is not so common nowadays.
03:21I will yield.
03:23Gentlelady yields.
03:26Gentlelady yields.
03:26Gentlelady yields.
