00:30First of all, the carbon dioxide is just going up and up and up.
00:34Why is it going up?
00:36Because we're burning fossil fuels and fossil fuel CO2 exhaust is accumulating in the atmosphere.
00:45And it's going up faster in recent years than in the past.
00:49So we're not only breaking all-time records for carbon dioxide concentration,
00:54we're also breaking all-time records for how fast it's increasing.
00:58Why?
00:58Because we're burning more fossil fuel now than we did in the past.
01:02It's pretty simple.
01:08This is very rock-solid data, but the program that makes this is fragile.
01:14And so we have a vulnerability now in the context of uncertainty about funding and uncertainty
01:22about priorities to keep these kinds of measurements going.
01:25I mean, one way to look at the climate problem is if you don't even acknowledge it,
01:39you obviously can't be ready for what's coming next.
01:56So it's a problem.
