00:00The Elections and Boundaries Commission has released its preliminary results showing a UNC
00:05election win with 26 constituencies. The party was able to grab some additional seven seats
00:12compared with the 2020 general election. Without naming the exact constituencies,
00:18the EBC showed that the PNM won some 13 constituencies in 2025, which marks a loss
00:26of eight constituencies for the Red Party compared with its 2020 results. The TPP, it said, garnered
00:33two seats. Of a total registered electorate of 1,153,850 electors across 41 electoral districts
00:45in Trinidad and Tobago, the EBC records a turnout of 617,702 electors or approximately
00:5554 percent. This figure is markedly smaller than the 2020 election, which recorded a voter
01:03turnout of 58.08 percent. That is, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. It indicates 40,965 fewer persons
01:15chose to vote in 2025 compared with the last election. This is the second lowest voter turnout
01:22following the 1971 election, when a turnout of 33.71 percent was recorded. The EBC says the UNC has
01:30formally requested recounts at three constituencies, Aruca Lopino, Malabar Mausicaa and San Fernando
01:37East. Those recounts, the EBC says, started at 3 p.m. today. As it stands, the United National
01:43Congress received the majority vote, though this has no effect on the overall results. The UNC got 334,000
01:53plus votes, an increase in votes compared to its 2020 tally of over 309,000 ballots, meaning it got 25,220
02:05extra votes. Meanwhile, the PNM in this election got 220,160 votes compared to its 322,180 tally of 2020.
02:19This means a total of 102,020 persons did not choose to vote for the PNM in this election. When it came
02:28to smaller parties, in its 37 seats, the Patriotic Front received 21,010 votes. The PEP got 9,373 votes
02:39through its three candidates. The Congress of the People fielded two candidates and received 6,481 votes.
02:46Meanwhile, the NTA, with 17 candidates, grabbed 5,932 votes. Chief Election Officer Fein Nosteskoop said
02:55details regarding the constituencies won by each party and the breakdown of votes will be released
03:01tomorrow. She tells TV6 News the Elections and Boundaries Commission is satisfied that polling day
03:07was successfully conducted with minor issues and that we are also heartened by the preliminary analysis
03:14of the both observer groups who have acknowledged and congratulated the EBC for its hard work.
