00:00Natasha Lyonne is set to make her feature directorial debut with a film that will make abundant use of AI.
00:07The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the film titled Uncanny Valley will be set in the world of immersive video games and utilize AI.
00:15Lyonne is working on the project with Brent Marling, and they've teamed up with longtime technology innovator, and sometimes skeptic, Jaron Lanier.
00:22The project is backed by Asteria, the new AI-based studio founded by Lyonne and filmmaker and entrepreneur Bryn Mouser.
00:30Lyonne will direct from a script she wrote with Marling, both will star.
00:34The movie is centered on a teenage girl who becomes unmoored by a hugely popular AR video game in a parallel present.
00:40It will blend traditional live action and game elements.
00:44The latter will be created by Lanier as well as Lyonne and Marling.
00:47And the entire enterprise will draw on AI from Asteria partner Moon Valley via a model called Mari,
00:53which, unlike systems from companies like Runway and OpenAI, is built only on data that has been copyright cleared.
00:59A representative for Asteria says the film, quote,
01:01will blend traditional storytelling techniques with cutting-edge AI technologies to create a radical new cinematic experience.
