What are the risks of cruise ships when it comes to travel insurance and on-board or excursion-related injuries? A legal expert shared with ACM what Aussies should know and why skipping cover might be a gamble you're likely to lose.

00:00Cruise ships are always a lot of terms and conditions that should be understood often

00:09the cruise line wants you to take the risk of the activities they have on board I find

00:15that somewhat unusual given that they're they're the ones that organize the activities but they

00:26also want you to take the risk of the excursions you participate in now that's more understandable

00:32because usually they rely on third parties to provide the onshore excursions and won't

00:38necessarily don't want to accept liability for anything that goes wrong that said they

00:45are expected to conduct risk assessments of the providers of their excursions and they

00:52should be able to satisfy passengers that the excursion and activity is safe to engage in

00:59so again there is potential recourse for people injured both on board and during onshore excursions
