00:00One month after two powerful earthquakes struck Myanmar on March 28,
00:05many people are still suffering from the effects that persist to this day.
00:09Let's see the details.
00:13Prior to the disaster, nearly 20 million people were estimated to need humanitarian assistance in the country,
00:20and the earthquakes pushed an additional 2 million people into urgent need.
00:30I am now at a site in Mandalay City,
00:33where about 400 households were affected by the earthquakes as well as a fire incident at the same time.
00:44Now, the affected people are living in makeshift shelters at the roadside,
00:48and some are also found living in community centers.
00:51We saw local well-wishers delivering food and some household items for immediate needs.
01:00Critical needs for the affected people are shelter, food, personal hygiene kits, and toilets.
01:06These people are already vulnerable depending solely on their daily wages.
01:10For their recovery, international support is greatly needed.
01:13With thousands of homes destroyed or damaged,
01:22countless people have no safe place to return to.
01:25One month on, many are still living outside in the open air,
01:29in makeshift shelters and tents.
01:33Even before these earthquakes struck,
01:35Myanmar was a country that was already facing a spiraling humanitarian crisis.
01:41There were nearly 20 million people estimated to be in need of humanitarian assistance,
01:47and what this disaster has done is it has not only exacerbated those already extreme needs,
01:54but it has now pushed an additional 2 million people into need of assistance and protection.
02:02The United Nations and non-governmental organizations continue to work closely with local organizations
02:08to assist hundreds of thousands of people,
02:11but the needs are still high.
02:13Despite the work done,
02:14more resources and sustained access are now essential to scale up the response
02:18and reach those in need.
02:20Also,
02:20these people are in need of breakthrough threats.
