Stay ahead of severe weather with the AccuWeather app

With concerns of severe weather with the possibility of tornadoes in the central and eastern parts of the U.S., the AccuWeather app can help you stay ahead of the threat and monitor areas at risk.

00:00Significant concerns about severe thunderstorms and even tornadoes across parts of the Central

00:10and Eastern United States over the coming days. The free AccuWeather app has many resources

00:15to help you stay safer and be best prepared. Let's take a look at some of those capabilities

00:19today in the free AccuWeather app. And of course when you arrive at the home screen, you download

00:24and load the AccuWeather app. If you turn on the GPS location, the AccuWeather app can provide you

00:30automatically with the most relevant and localized accurate forecast for where you're at.

00:34But you can also tap up here on the top and go to any location around the country and around the world

00:40by just typing in that up on the top. And then we're going to go back to that home screen

00:44and over to Rochester, Minnesota today where we have a concern about severe weather and the tornado risk there.

00:51So tap on the top bar there and then I can favorite any location that I search in the AccuWeather app

00:57and it's going to ask me if I want to receive notifications. I'm going to press yes on that.

01:01We've had so many people tell us that they love to add in not only their current location,

01:05but places where their kids are located or where their parents live so they can receive relevant warnings

01:10faster than any source through the AccuWeather app as well. And I want to show as well how to turn on those notifications.

01:16And if you tap in the upper left hand corner of the screen, go down to settings and then manage notifications

01:22right in through here. Tap on manage notifications. And when you do that under government alerts,

01:27make sure those are turned on and that will enable you to be able to get those for your current location

01:33plus any location that you've saved. See all those extra locations that you favored in the AccuWeather app.

01:38You can get those. Turn on lightning alerts as well so that AccuWeather can notify you of nearby lightning.

01:45These are just some of the many tools to help you be best prepared.
