00:00
And as Terrell Fortune, the heavyweight, who joins us now,
00:02
we're looking forward to seeing him make his Lights Out debut.
00:05
He'll be the one headlining that card against Carl Siamantufa.
00:10
Sorry, I've butchered that probably many times.
00:13
But Terrell, thanks so much for joining us.
00:15
We appreciate your time.
00:16
We're looking forward to seeing your debut with Lights Out.
00:18
Now, you're a guy who's, of course, been fighting for a while.
00:21
You've been fighting in many organizations for a long time with Bellator.
00:24
Had a couple fights with the PFL.
00:26
So what drew you now to come in here and fight with Lights Out
00:30
and fight for Sean Merriman and this organization?
00:33
Main thing is I wanted to leave PFL to have an opportunity to fight in the UFC.
00:39
So Lights Out is just my road to the UFC
00:42
and trying to just get as many fights as I can to make that happen.
00:47
And, you know, Merriman's a guy who is great with that,
00:50
who has been very, you know, outspoken with that.
00:51
A lot of promoters, obviously, they're going to want to hold on to guys
00:54
as much as they can.
00:55
You know, you're their commodity.
00:57
Without you, they don't have, you know, fans watching.
00:59
They don't have guys that want to see these fights.
01:02
So for a name like you to be coming into Lights Out
01:04
and, you know, Merriman to be absolutely okay with, you know,
01:08
a guy like you saying, hey, this is just a stop.
01:10
We've had many Lights Out fighters.
01:12
They all talk about wanting to make it up to, you know, the UFC,
01:15
make it to, you know, the best of the best.
01:18
So how important do you think it is to have a guy like Merriman
01:21
running this organization who is not only open,
01:24
but encouraging his fighters to, you know,
01:26
have goals that are well beyond, you know,
01:29
what he's putting out there right now?
01:31
For fighters, we need promoters like him.
01:33
I mean, he makes that process easier
01:36
and he understands the journey that we're on.
01:38
So it makes it a lot easier for a fighter
01:40
to be able to come and commit to a company
01:42
that they know where your end goal is
01:44
and know what journey you're on.
01:45
So it was a perfect fit for me to come here and join Lights Out.
01:49
And we're looking forward to seeing your first fight.
01:51
When you look at the, you know,
01:52
the fights that you've had over the years in Bellator,
01:54
I mean, you've had plenty of big names
01:55
that people have watched for years, you know,
01:57
guys like Linton Vassal, Mitrione, Tim Johnson.
02:01
You know, what are some of the favorite fights
02:02
that you've had so far in your career?
02:04
You know, with obviously a great record at 14-3,
02:06
you've made great runs against some big names
02:08
that people have known from, you know, not just Bellator,
02:11
but of course have come from the UFC
02:12
and other organizations before.
02:14
What are some of the favorite fights
02:15
that you've had so far in your career
02:16
as, you know, you continue to try to move on and move up?
02:21
I would say any fight that I won.
02:23
I mean, not really even,
02:24
I would say more of the fights that I lost too
02:26
because those were probably the biggest growing phases for me
02:29
is going back and then figuring out how to deal with it
02:32
and then just growing from that, you know.
02:35
I mean, you learn the most when you lose.
02:37
The wins are, they just go by,
02:39
but the losses stick with you for a little bit.
02:41
So I would say the losses for me,
02:44
the one with Linton, Tim Johnson,
02:46
and even this last one where I got caught in a heel hook
02:49
at the beginning of the fight.
02:51
So it was just, those are the biggest learning phases for me.
02:54
So I'd say the losses stick with me the most.
02:58
Spoken like a true veteran,
02:59
I think, you know, you have that experience
03:01
that you have 14-3.
03:03
You know, you've seen a lot over the years
03:04
training for that.
03:05
You know, how do you feel where you are
03:07
in your career right now?
03:07
You know, do you feel like maybe, you know,
03:10
obviously you're always going to feel great,
03:11
hopefully, you know, physically,
03:13
you know, besides the obvious nicks and bruises
03:14
and things that you get training for fights
03:16
because you're never going to be at 100%
03:17
when you're, you know, your job is,
03:19
you know, you fight to train to fight.
03:21
But how are you feeling now as a vet,
03:23
you know, at your age
03:24
and having seen all these different styles,
03:26
different fights, different places,
03:27
mentally where you are,
03:28
do you feel like you're, you know,
03:29
at your best that you've ever been
03:30
just from your experience
03:32
and what you've learned over these years?
03:33
No, I think I'm still getting better every day.
03:37
I don't even consider myself a vet.
03:38
I would say I'm more like a sophomore,
03:41
you know what I'm saying, or a junior.
03:43
I'm just like Michael Jordan.
03:44
I just went bald, you know what I'm saying?
03:45
So I just cut the hair off
03:46
and now it's time for me
03:47
to go on a championship run.
03:50
I'm just looking for the opportunity
03:51
to prove myself as one of the best in the world.
03:53
So that's really all I'm here for.
03:56
Now you're facing your opponent,
03:57
obviously, as we talked about,
03:59
you know, he's got years on you.
04:00
He's even more experienced than that.
04:01
He's been around.
04:02
He's also fought Bellator, PFL,
04:04
you know, different organizations.
04:05
What have you seen from,
04:07
he obviously doesn't have the same
04:08
impressive record that you have,
04:09
but what have you seen
04:10
as you watch and prepare for him
04:12
that makes you excited for this fight?
04:15
Like you said, he's a tough guy.
04:16
He's been around for a very long time.
04:19
He's had a lot of experienced fights
04:21
with guys who come from UFC, Bellator, PFL as well.
04:26
So, no, I'm just excited to see what he brings.
04:28
He seems more like an old-style Muay Thai fighter.
04:32
With his high guard, low kicks,
04:34
a hook, you know, and a little bit of overhand.
04:36
So I'm just excited to fight the style
04:38
and fight the guy and see what he brings.
04:40
So I've been to you.
04:41
I'm just going to do it.
04:57
I'm just going to do it.
