Johnny Lopez Speaks On His Admiration For Sister, Chiquis, New Song "5 Por 5" & More | Billboard Latin Women in Music 2025

Johnny Lopez chatted with Billboard’s Griselda Flores and Jessica Roiz ahead of Billboard Latin Women in Music 2025.

00:07Wait, you're here with your sister, Chiquis, who's being honored tonight with the Impact Award.

00:12How proud are you? I'm extremely proud. I've always been my sister's biggest fan as well as my mother's.

00:19And the fact that she followed my mom's footsteps and she's made a name for herself and she's being recognized,

00:25I think it's a big testament to everything my mother worked for and that she's worked for over the past 11, 12 years.

00:32She's receiving the Impact Award. What impact has Chiquis had on your life?

00:38My sister is the strongest woman I know. I believe any other woman that would be walking in her shoes probably would have gone crazy by now.

00:47She lived a very hard life and she's remained determined with her head held high.

00:53And in some ways it's been harder for her, even more so than my mom.

00:58So I'm a big advocate for everything my sister's worked for.

01:03And I'm just so proud of her. I'm so proud to be her brother. I'm so proud to be her son.

01:07Johnny, we know that you have music coming. What can you tell us about it?

01:12Tonight I'm releasing a song called Cinco Por Cinco.

01:14And it started as a poem that I wrote getting out of the gym very early in the morning.

01:20And it turned into a song with Luciano Luna, who's a great composer, producer.

01:26And it's a very autobiographical corrido. Just real life, you know.

01:30And it's the first single from my EP that's coming out next month.

01:33I've been working on an EP for almost three years now.

01:36And I've wanted to take my time and be very picky with my sound because I want to experiment.

01:40But also I love classic regional sounds.

01:43So yeah, I'm just being myself. I'm being myself.
