00:00I think we're ready to get this thing started. Casey, if you will, please. I'm excited to welcome our first coach. As soon as my music begins, of course, it doesn't work. There it is. Thank you.
00:11All right. Ladies and gentlemen, a Philadelphia native and the son of longtime Niagara and current Hofstra, he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the men's basketball program at Villanova University under Jay Wright.
00:27Since April 2015, he has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach under current Papa Shot champion Steve Donoghue from the University of Pennsylvania men's basketball, Joe Mahillen.
00:45And he has the trophy in hand to prove it. All right. Joe, welcome to the camp out for hunger. How you doing, man? All right.
00:56Well, first of all, I got to be honest. This is Coach Donoghue's trophy from a couple of years ago. So he wishes he could be here. His wife just had surgery. So he sends his best.
01:05She's doing OK, we heard. She's doing good. Excellent. Excellent. All right. Well, you got a lot to live up to. Did he give you any tips beforehand?
01:13Just win, baby. Just win, baby. That's all. That's all. Yes. Well, I tell you what, Joe, we're ready to dive right into it. You ready to make this thing happen?
01:21Yeah, let's rock. On to the Papa Shot. Let's say we go that way. Follow Marissa. She's going to take it. She'll watch the trophy for you.
01:28This would be nerve wracking. And so you get bonus time if you hit a certain number of points. Yes. At at some point during the whole thing.
01:36So I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Mark Zumhoff to give us the play by play. Mark, you ready? All right, Mr. Mihalik. Coach, you ready?
01:43Oh, let's go. All right. Here we go. Coach Mihalik. We're going to get five different balls here.
01:48They're going to rotate. They're going to go. The super shot is coming forward. Get ready and go.
01:52There goes Coach Mihalik. He's got 28 seconds. It's a full 30. He's yet to get one.
01:57He's bouncing it off the back rim. He continues to be long. He's now trying to backboard. It's not working.
02:01Finally, he gets two. And he's using the backboard for four. Trying to get a little bit of a rhythm here.
02:06Keeps hitting the back of the rim. There he goes. He goes right in. Now he's got eight. He's got 12 seconds to go.
02:10He's got 10. He's got 13. Can he find a rhythm? Yes. It's now a three-point territory.
02:15He keeps hitting the back of the rim. Does he go backboard? He does. He's got 16 with three.
02:19He's got 16 with two, with one. And that will do it. 16 points for Coach Mihalik.
02:25Not great. Not great. Not great. Who's saying not great?
02:29Not great is what he's saying. Me, I didn't say anything.
02:34I need to be in Sea Isle. I need to be down Ocean City. I need to be on the boardwalk.
02:39So we currently stand at 16 for Coach Mihalik.
02:44Hey, you're currently in first place.
02:46That's right.
02:46All right.
02:47Right, everybody? First place.
02:49All right.
02:50He just ran a clinic. A free clinic.
02:53All right.
02:54Let's move on.
02:55Our next coach was previously an assistant coach at Villanova University.
02:59Born in Philadelphia, educated at Monsignor Bonner and Drexel University, and currently
03:06a resident of Conchahokken, Pennsylvania.
03:11We met him in our studios in June of this last year, and he is the head men's basketball
03:16coach at LaSalle University.
03:19Please welcome Ashley Howard.
03:27And my neighbor.
03:28That's right, Conchahokken. Nice to see you, Coach. How you doing?
03:31Good to see you again.
03:32We are happy that you're a part of this today.
03:35Did you learn anything from that first display from Coach Mihalik?
03:39Just keep your eyes on the rim.
03:40Keep your eyes on the rim.
03:42All right.
03:42Now, do you shoot balls that often?
03:45Are you in practice putting a few up?
03:47Honestly, I haven't.
03:49I haven't had much practice, so we'll see how it goes.
03:51That might work in your favor.
03:52Yeah, you never know.
03:53No pressure.
03:54No pressure.
03:54And this rim is a little bit different.
03:56The balls are smaller and the rim is smaller, so I don't think even if you were shooting
04:00at the gym that it would really help you all that much.
04:04You literally have to get down to Dave and Buster's and practice.
04:08All right.
04:08Ready to give it a try?
04:09Ready to go.
04:10Let's go.
04:10All right.
04:10Let's go.
04:10Coach Howard, head on over now.
04:14We turn it over to Mark Zumhoff.
04:16All right.
04:16Thank you very much.
04:17Coach Preston.
04:17We got Coach Ashley Howard.
04:19He's got his golf shirt on here, even though it's wintertime, but he means business.
04:23SuperShot is getting ready.
04:25Push the button.
04:26Marissa, the classic is up.
04:27Get ready.
04:28We're going to count down.
04:29The rim is coming forward.
04:31And go.
04:3230 seconds to go.
04:32Oh, he goes right in.
04:33He's got two.
04:34He's got three.
04:35Oh, he's got a rhythm right away.
04:36He's got four.
04:36He's got six points total.
04:37Make it eight.
04:38Make it ten.
04:39He's not going backboard.
04:40He's going right in.
04:41Oh, he's got it going on.
04:42He's got 16.
04:43With 18 seconds to go, he's got 18.
04:45He's got 20.
04:46He's got 22.
04:47Oh, this is unbelievable.
04:49He's got 28.
04:50He's going back to three-point territory.
04:51He's got bonus time.
04:53He's got 33 points with 12 seconds to go.
04:5636 points with 10 seconds to go.
04:58Right in again.
04:59He's not using the backward.
05:00He is going right with it.
05:02He's got 45.
05:03Make it 48.
05:04Make it 51.
05:05Make it 54.
05:07Make it 57.
05:08Make it 60 points.
05:11Wow.
05:1263.
05:1363 is the final tally.
05:17Wow.
05:18Oh, my God.
05:18So, Casey, who's in the lead?
05:21I got to check.
05:22I don't know.
05:23It looks like the lead belongs to Ashley Howard.
05:26No pressure.
05:28No pressure.
05:29Yes.
05:30Listen, I always think that the backboard is the way to go on that game.
05:33But, Mark, he was having none of that.
05:36He was going right to the rim.
05:38Coach, why was that your strategy?
05:40I mean, just keep your eyes on the rim.
05:42Just keep your eyes.
05:42Yes.
05:43I'm trying to get my players to do the same thing.
05:47We're a work in progress right now.
05:48Well, you're just led by example.
05:50Well done.
05:50Yeah, and we got one more day.
05:51So, bring him down here.
05:52We'll have a little shoot around and pop a shot.
05:55All right.
05:55That's a tough one to beat.
05:5663 points.
05:57And, by the way, I meant to mention this when Zoo first came on.
06:00We wanted to provide an opportunity to donate through NBC Sports Philadelphia.
06:06So, if you download the My Teams app, NBC Sports Philadelphia will donate $1 for each download through the Phil Abundance link.
06:16So, if you download the My Teams app from NBC Sports Philadelphia, every download will get $1 to Phil Abundance.
06:24Just for that.
06:25It's easy as can be.
06:26Absolutely.
06:27All right.
06:27That's a tough one to beat, but let's find out if it can happen.
06:30We're going to welcome our next coach.
06:31He is a native of Morgantown, West Virginia, but attended the Hill School at Pottstown, PA.
06:39He played college ball at Ithaca College.
06:41He was previously the head coach at Army and has been the head coach of Drexel University men's basketball since 2016.
06:50Ladies and gentlemen, Zach Spiker!
07:03Hey, Coach.
07:04How are you?
07:05What's up, guys?
07:05How you doing?
07:06Doing well.
07:06Nice to see you.
07:07Did you have a front row seat for Coach Howard back there?
07:10The other coaches were back there.
07:11We had the white flag.
07:12We came out.
07:14Give him the trophy.
07:15Well, that's now.
07:15See you next year.
07:16That only gets to the second round, and we've seen this happen before.
07:20I think Jay Wright had this happen before where he crushed it in the first round, and then he went cold in the second round and ended up losing to somebody.
07:29Well, you know what?
07:30I forgot to mention that.
07:31We take the top two from the first round, then we have a shoot-off, and that determines the winner.
07:36So this really is a game of consistency.
07:38You've got to do it twice to win fully, so don't count yourself out.
07:41Though it does look bleak.
07:44Don't have your eyes on 63.
07:46Have your eyes on 16.
07:48Yes.
07:49Right, Coach Howard.
07:50All right, are you ready to make this thing happen?
07:52Yeah, I'm ready.
07:53I just want to acknowledge two guys.
07:54We had a game last night, which we lost, which stunk, but we had some very special alums, some guys from the DACPAC.
08:01Marshall and Dan are here.
08:03They got around with a group of guys.
08:04They found out this event was going on.
08:08And just a group of guys, they raised $750 to give to Phil Abundance.
08:13Oh, that's awesome.
08:14Last night, we lost.
08:16Yes.
08:18Thank you so much, guys.
08:19A round of applause for these guys.
08:20That's wonderful.
08:21Can I have them shoot for me?
08:23No.
08:24No.
08:24No.
08:26No, you cannot.
08:27All right, Coach Spiker, why don't you head over to Mark Zumoff and let's make this thing happen.
08:31He is going to attempt, as you said, Casey, 63.
08:35He could try to beat that.
08:35If not, he's just got to get more than 16 to stay with an opportunity to make it to the second round.
08:40So let's see what happens.
08:41I'll send it to you, Zoom.
08:43All right, 30 seconds to shoot.
08:44He's at the super shot.
08:46He's warmed up.
08:47He's ready.
08:48It says get ready, Coach.
08:49Not yet.
08:49Go.
08:50And there it is.
08:50He's got 30 seconds.
08:51He's got two.
08:52He's going backboard here.
08:53He's going backboard.
08:54Now he's going straight in.
08:55He's got six.
08:56Still plenty of time to go.
08:57He's got eight.
08:58He takes aim and he, oh, he's off the right side of the rim.
09:01And there it falls through.
09:02He's got 10.
09:03He's about halfway through and he's got 10.
09:05Rims and comes out.
09:06There it goes for 12.
09:07He's got 14 with 12 seconds to go.
09:09Now it's moving back for the three-point shot.
09:11Here he goes.
09:12He's got 17 with seven seconds to go.
09:1417.
09:15Oh, he's going backboard.
09:16He goes back rim.
09:17He's got 20.
09:18He's got 23.
09:19He takes aim and he's got 23.
09:21And that's going to do it.
09:2223 points for Coach Spiker of Drexel.
09:25All right.
09:26Not good.
09:2723 points.
09:28By the way, Drexel also gave us season ticket passes for us to give away this morning.
09:32We will figure out a way to do that a little bit later on.
09:35But thank you guys very much for your contribution.
09:37We love it.
09:37Thanks.
09:38You told me 16.
09:39Yes.
09:40You're in second place.
09:41That's your fault.
09:42You should have told me 50.
09:43Oh, you're right.
09:44You're right.
09:45It is your fault, Case.
09:47All right.
09:47But you're sitting in a good spot right now, Coach.
09:49All right.
09:49So hang tight.
09:50We'll see if you make it to the final round.
09:51Excellent.
09:52All right.
09:53We have our next coach ready to go.
09:54We love it.
09:55He's been a part of this since day one.
09:57And he is a current Delco resident.
10:02Was a point guard for Widenew University.
10:05And as point guard, he set the school's single season and career assist marks.
10:10As the head coach of St. Joe's men's basketball since 1995, he has led St. Joseph's to seven NCAA tournaments.
10:22Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the one and only, Phil Martelli.
10:33Good to see you again, Coach.
10:35How are you?
10:36Good to see you guys.
10:37Thanks for doing this.
10:38You bet.
10:38You've been coming to this event even before we did the City Six Challenge.
10:42You've come out to the camp out for hunger before, so we appreciate it.
10:44It was really cold one time out there in Plymouth meeting.
10:47I think it was snowing sideways.
10:49Oh, yeah.
10:49And you know what?
10:51I was there with Jay Wright.
10:52He looked every bit as good that day as he does today.
10:55What the hell is that about?
10:56The no age.
10:57We're in the green room, and they told us to get out of the pictures.
11:00The Phil Abundance people said, you out.
11:02We're taking a picture with Jay.
11:04And you obliged.
11:06I sure did.
11:07We know exactly what that feels like.
11:09Don't worry about that, Coach.
11:10You see what you're looking at here.
11:11No problem.
11:12No, we love having you here, and we appreciate this support.
11:14Thank you for what you're doing.
11:16Making Philadelphia better.
11:17All of you.
11:18Thank you so much.
11:18All of you.
11:19Yeah.
11:19All right.
11:20So to make it into the final round, and we're going to talk to all the coaches at the end,
11:23by the way.
11:24You've got to beat 23 points.
11:26So I think you can handle that.
11:2823?
11:29Yeah.
11:2923.
11:30So I have to stay until the end?
11:34No, seriously.
11:35I have to get out to campus.
11:36The kids at St. Joe's are building castles out of cans of food, and they're going to drive
11:41them down here.
11:42And I'm the judge.
11:43I'm the judge of the castle building.
11:45That's awesome.
11:46So we've got to make sure you're out of here quickly then.
11:48Yeah.
11:48What a great idea.
11:49I might throw this.
11:50Okay.
11:51You would understand.
11:53Tanking's still good, right?
11:54Yes.
11:54Love the setup.
11:55It's worked for the Sixers.
11:56Oh, man.
11:57All right, Coach.
11:58Head over there, and let's see how you do in the City Six Papa Shot Challenge.
12:03He's making his way over, Mark.
12:04So let's get him going.
12:07Tanking?
12:07Whoever heard of tanking?
12:08What's he talking about?
12:11I'm sorry.
12:12Oh, my.
12:13All right.
12:13Coach Martelli is ready.
12:14He's got his dress shoes on, but it doesn't matter.
12:16Get ready, Coach.
12:17It's not.
12:18You're shooting.
12:19It's not ready yet.
12:20Here it goes.
12:20No, go, go, go.
12:2130 seconds.
12:22Here he goes.
12:22He goes back rim on the first one.
12:24He is going right to the rim.
12:25He's not going backboard.
12:26Now he goes backboard for two.
12:2723 seconds to go.
12:29He's going right to the rim.
12:30He's got four.
12:31He's got six.
12:32It rolls right in.
12:33Now he's got a little rhythm.
12:34Oh, it rims out.
12:35Now he's got eight with 15 seconds to go.
12:36He's got 10.
12:37There we go.
12:38Now it's going back for the three-point shot.
12:40He's got 13.
12:42He hits the back rim with eight seconds to go.
12:43He hits the back rim, but it goes in for 16 with five seconds to go.
12:46He's got 19.
12:47Can you get one more?
12:48He's got 22.
12:50Yes.
12:51He's got 25 points, and he's in second place.
12:54Wow.
12:55He couldn't effectively throw it.
12:57He was too good.
12:58Listen, he's a competitor, man.
13:00Yes.
13:01Once it starts happening.
13:03It just kicks in.
13:04How's he feeling over there, Mark?
13:05How are you feeling, Coach?
13:06How are you feeling?
13:06I'm exhausted.
13:07I'm really tired.
13:12Well, yeah.
13:13Hey, man, you were playing full-court press, so that's what happens when you're running that much.
13:16I appreciate it.
13:18All right.
13:18Coach Martelli, guys.
13:19Yes.
13:21Good enough for second place.
13:23This is a very important moment with our next coach, and I'll give you the setup, gang.
13:27A Delco native and graduate of St. Dott's Catholic Grade School, Malvern Prep, and LaSalle University.
13:37He has been a college head coach in Philadelphia since 1989, coaching Penn from 89 to 2006.
13:43And from the 2006 season to this season, his last season as head coach of Temple Men's Basketball, Brent Dott's Day!
13:59How you doing, guys?
14:00How are you?
14:01Good to see you.
14:02Thank you for being here, Coach.
14:06I said thank you for being here, sir.
14:07Well, thanks to you guys for doing what you do all week long, and we're thrilled to be here.
14:11Our basketball shooting probably won't be as good as, the rest of us won't be as good as Ashley.
14:16We'll see.
14:17Appreciate what you guys do.
14:18Hey, we were, listen, we understand that you've got to move on with your life and away from Temple University,
14:25but we all said collectively when we were getting set for this, and Nick, you said it was Coach Stumpy's last season.
14:31We were all like, aw.
14:32Just won't be the same without you.
14:34It will not be.
14:35Well, you're nice to say that, guys.
14:36Not because of my shooting, I'm sure.
14:38But you've been a staple in college men's basketball here in the city of Philadelphia for a long time, 1989,
14:45just as the head coach alone, and then your career precedes even that.
14:50Is it, am I correct in saying that it has already been announced that your successor is going to be?
14:55Absolutely, Aaron McKee.
14:56Which is spectacular.
14:58Wonderful.
14:58Another Temple graduate, right?
15:01We think it's a great succession plan, and he's going to do a wonderful job.
15:05Is he aware of what he has to do here next season?
15:08Right here in this tent?
15:09As a matter of fact, we talked about it yesterday.
15:11He's a little nervous.
15:13As well he should be.
15:14Very good.
15:15It's all good.
15:16Let's see how you do this year, Coach.
15:17Thanks, guys.
15:17Appreciate it.
15:18Very much.
15:20Chris is going to send him over to the Papa Shot Challenge, and I'll hand it over to Mark Zumal.
15:25All right, Preston, thank you very much.
15:26What a swan song it would be to see the coach win it all.
15:31But he's got to get 25 here in this first round.
15:33The Super Shot is getting ready.
15:34Are we ready, Coach?
15:35Here we go.
15:36Get ready.
15:37It's coming forward.
15:38The rim is.
15:39And go.
15:4030 seconds to go.
15:40He's going backboard.
15:41That's the strategy here.
15:42Oh, no.
15:43He goes straight in.
15:44Now he's going backboard.
15:44He's got two.
15:45He's got four.
15:46He's about six seconds in.
15:47He's got six.
15:48He's got the rhythm here.
15:49He's going for backboard.
15:50Oh, it rims and comes out.
15:51It rims and comes out again.
15:53He's got six.
15:53Now he's got eight.
15:54He's about halfway through.
15:55He's got ten.
15:56Now he's going backboard, and now he's got a rhythm.
15:58Here he goes.
15:59Now he's gone straight for the rim, and he goes up the back of the rim.
16:01He's got 12.
16:02Now he's got three-point shots.
16:03He's got 18.
16:04He's got 21.
16:06He's got four seconds to go.
16:07He's got 24.
16:09Can he get one more?
16:10Yes!
16:11Oh, wait.
16:14He did not beat the buzzer.
16:15It stopped at 24.
16:20I want a replay.
16:22We got replay in the NBA.
16:23We need replay.
16:24We need replay on this one, yes.
16:26We can.
16:27If it leaves his fingers, right?
16:29Exactly.
16:30If it leaves his fingers before the clock at zero, we award those points.
16:34Let's not forget, Coach Martelli wants to get out of here, so he won't lie.
16:38Oh, so I just checked the replay.
16:42Yep.
16:42It was good.
16:43It was good!
16:46We went up to Secaucus for that one.
16:48How amazing.
16:49Casey, Casey, I have them in my ear right now.
16:52Right?
16:52Yes, it left his fingertips in time.
16:5527.
16:56Nick is looking at a close-up.
16:57It's actually a thermal representation of what happened.
17:00You see it here, Steve.
17:01Yes, and it was actually photographed from the Hubble telescope.
17:04So then that is official?
17:05That is official.
17:0627.
17:06All right, okay, so, so far in the finals, as of now, Ashley Howard and Fran Dunphy and
17:1563 for Coach Howard and 27 for Coach Dunphy, but we got one more to go, ladies and gentlemen.
17:23Oh, well, you know what?
17:23Let's check in over there.
17:24I'm sorry.
17:24We didn't go.
17:25He's on his way.
17:26That's all right.
17:27It's all good.
17:28It's all good.
17:28Our next coach was born on Christmas Eve in 1961, graduated from Council Rock High School
17:35North, went on to be a legend at Bucknell University, where he played on the basketball team and was
17:41a brother at Sigma Chi, the second-best fraternity at Bucknell.
17:47How do you have all that info?
17:48He has led the Villanova Wildcats to five Big East Conference championships, 13 NCAA tournament
17:56appearances as in 17 seasons as head coach in 2016.
18:01He led the Wildcats to the NCAA championship as the team beat North Carolina on a game-winning
18:06three-point buzzer beater by Chris Jenkins.
18:08And last season, led Nova Nation to another championship.
18:16Ladies and gentlemen, give it a round to the best coach of Illinois University, Jay
18:22Ray Ray.
18:24I know, Nick.
18:30Nick wrote that.
18:31Nick wrote that.
18:33Second-best fraternity.
18:35Well, come on.
18:35Gave it away, yeah.
18:36Come on.
18:37That's bad.
18:38Which fraternity were you in, Nick?
18:40The best fraternity, which was Kappa Sigma.
18:42Which, wait a minute.
18:44I rushed Kappa Sigma as a freshman.
18:47I was supposed to go to Kappa Sigma.
18:49All of the basketball players were on Kappa Sigma.
18:52Yes.
18:53But in my freshman year, because of total insanity, they shut it down.
18:59Wow.
19:00So I couldn't, we didn't have it when I was there.
19:03In our defense, they were doing a lot of blow at the time.
19:07He didn't want to be there.
19:09Nick was on the seven-year track.
19:11Yeah.
19:12Right.
19:13He was the second time around.
19:15They reopened it.
19:16And that is a true story, too.
19:18It is true.
19:19Coach, I want to remind people, because we love this story.
19:21When you won this, the year that you won this, the last time, you had a picture of you with the trophy on your phone.
19:30And it was the background photo for your phone.
19:33And you held on to that for an entire year?
19:35Yeah, man.
19:36Until you came here?
19:37And I haven't been able to repeat.
19:38It's embarrassing.
19:39Well, no.
19:40Maybe that changes today.
19:41And that was the same year that the Wildcats won the championship.
19:45And what was on his phone?
19:47The picture of him with this stupid golden cup.
19:49The golden cup.
19:51Yes.
19:52Which hangs proudly in our practice facility next to the national championship trophy.
19:57Love it.
19:58You guys won the tournament over the weekend.
20:00Is that correct?
20:01We did in Florida, in Disney World.
20:03Well, congratulations on that.
20:06Nice.
20:06All right.
20:07Well, let's, and we appreciate, obviously, your continued support.
20:10And we'll talk to everybody when we're done with this whole thing.
20:12But you ready to get it on?
20:13All right.
20:13Let's do it.
20:14All right.
20:14Jay Wright is headed over right now to the Papa Shot Challenge.
20:17And I hand it to Mark Zumhoff.
20:19All right.
20:19Just to be clear, he needs 20, he needs to be 27, correct?
20:22Correct.
20:23Now, I have one question.
20:24What if he gets 27?
20:25Then we have a, we have a three-way final final.
20:29Okay.
20:29All right.
20:30Coach is lining up.
20:31He's ready.
20:32We're going to push the button.
20:33Skee ball's getting ready.
20:34The rim is coming forward.
20:35He needs to be 27.
20:37And 30 seconds.
20:37Go, coach.
20:38Go, go, go.
20:39He's going backboard.
20:40That's the strategy early on.
20:41Oh, he's going straight backboard.
20:42He had two of three.
20:43Now he's got three of four.
20:44He's got six.
20:45He keeps going backboard.
20:47That's going to be what he's doing.
20:48He's aiming for that square behind.
20:50He's got eight.
20:51He's got 10 with 15 seconds to go.
20:53Going backboard again.
20:54He's got 12.
20:55Now it's going back for the three-point shot.
20:57Now he's going straight rim.
20:58He's got 17 with nine seconds to go.
21:00He's going backboard.
21:01He's got 20.
21:02He needs a few more here.
21:03He's going straight rim with three.
21:05He's going straight rim with two, with one.
21:08And he's got 26 points.
21:13No, he's got 29.
21:15Wow.
21:18What happened?
21:19What happened is right.
21:21It went to 29.
21:23It did.
21:24What happened?
21:25Hang on a second.
21:25We got to go check with Sakaka.
21:26All right.
21:26Let's check.
21:27Oh, boy.
21:27Here we go.
21:27We're going to do a replay.
21:28We're checking with Sakaka.
21:30Yeah.
21:30It looked like it went to zero to me.
21:32And then he hit that last one.
21:33Yeah, that was shady.
21:34That was definitely shady.
21:35But, I mean, Casey, this is your game.
21:38Oh, this is.
21:39No, no, no.
21:39Nick's talking to Sakaka right now.
21:41I have nothing to do with this.
21:42Yeah, no.
21:43It turns out that Sakaka's guy also went to Bucknell.
21:45So, Jay Wright is going to the final round.
21:47Oh!
21:48Woo!
21:49Woo!
21:50Woo!
21:50All right.
21:51All right.
21:5229 is what we have officially on the score.
21:56So, that means that Ashley Howard and Jay Wright are going to be in this final round.
21:59Yes.
22:00And I just want to mention to these coaches to not listen.
22:03And this is nothing against you, Zoo.
22:05Don't listen to Zoo to go.
22:07You got to watch it because it says get ready.
22:11Go.
22:11So, you got to pay attention to what the actual superstar says.
22:14You can pick up extra points.
22:15Yes, yes.
22:15Yeah.
22:16Because, Jay, you actually started a little bit late.
22:18You started about a second late.
22:20So, good thing Sakaka's was watching.
22:22I got that for the finals.
22:23I'm a Tampa guy.
22:24Don't you think that was intentional?
22:26It's been rigged.
22:27All right.
22:28Let's get Coach Howard over there.
22:30And the way that we're going to do the finals is, Coach Howard, you get to choose who goes
22:33first.
22:34You or Coach Wright.
22:36It's all up to you.
22:36So, when you get over to Mark, you get to make the decision because you have the highest
22:41point total.
22:41So, we have a nice little hug going on there.
22:44Yes.
22:44I love to see the camaraderie.
22:47And, Zoom, I'll send it over to you, Matt.
22:49All right.
22:49This is like the toss-up to start overtime.
22:52Coach, what are you going to do?
22:53Coach Howard.
22:53I think I'm going to let Coach Wright go first.
22:55Coach Wright is going first.
22:57That's the strategy here.
22:58All right.
22:58Wow.
22:59You can hear the murmur through the crowd after that decision.
23:02All right.
23:03Here we go.
23:05Coach Wright is standing by.
23:07Now, he's warm because he just went.
23:08Yeah.
23:09The super shot is coming forward.
23:11The rim is coming forward.
23:12We're getting ready.
23:13Coach, are you ready?
23:14Watch it.
23:14Go!
23:15Go!
23:15Go!
23:15Go!
23:1530 seconds.
23:16Here he goes.
23:17He's going backboard.
23:17He's got two.
23:18He's waiting for the ball.
23:19The ball is slow to come down.
23:21Now, he's trying to get a little bit of a rhythm here.
23:23He's got four.
23:23He's got six.
23:24Now, he's going backboard for eight.
23:25He's got 10 with 19 seconds to go.
23:28He's going backboard.
23:28Oh, he's got a rhythm now.
23:30He's got it going on.
23:31He's got 16.
23:32He's got 18.
23:33Now, it's going back for the three-point shot.
23:35He's got 25.
23:36It rims in for 28.
23:37We have seven seconds to go.
23:39He's got 31.
23:39He's got bonus time.
23:4134, 37, 40.
23:43He's got 43.
23:45Five seconds to go.
23:47Going backboard again.
23:48Stolen 43.
23:48Now, he's got 46.
23:49He's got 49.
23:52And 52.
23:53And that's going to do it.
23:5452?
23:5552, 52.
23:57Nice.
24:01Man, Zoom, he got in that rhythm, didn't he?
24:03Yes, he did.
24:04He was going backboard, and he was strong.
24:06Felt good going back to back.
24:09I learned that strategy for next year.
24:11Yeah, Coach Wright approves.
24:12Yeah, there you go.
24:13I think Ash was taking care of me.
24:14He was my assistant.
24:15He's taking care of me.
24:17All right.
24:18Then we have one more, and it's Coach Howard that has to beat 52 points.
24:23Zoom.
24:23All right.
24:24Here we go.
24:24Coach Howard, who hasn't gone in a long time, is getting ready.
24:28The balls are ready.
24:29He's got to beat 52.
24:30Go, go, go, go, go.
24:31He's going front rim.
24:32He's going straight rim.
24:33He hits the back of the rim.
24:34Now he's got four.
24:35Five seconds going.
24:36He's got four.
24:37He's going rim for six.
24:38He's got eight.
24:39He's getting a rhythm going.
24:40He's got one.
24:41He's got 10, 12, 18 seconds to go, 14.
24:43Don't forget, we've got three-point shots coming up.
24:4515 seconds to go.
24:46He's got 14.
24:47Make it 16.
24:48Now the rim is going back for the three-point shot.
24:50He's got 18.
24:51He's got 18 still with eight seconds to go.
24:53He's got 21.
24:54Six seconds to go.
24:55He's got 24.
24:56He's got front rim.
24:5727.
24:58He's got 30.
24:59He's got bonus time.
25:00He's got 36.
25:01He's got four seconds to go.
25:03He hits the top.
25:04He's got 36 with one.
25:06It goes in for 39, and it's got 42 points.
25:10Coach Ray.
25:11Oh, my God.
25:12Oh, my God.
25:20He is just enjoying.
25:24Oh, my God.
25:27Very impressive.
25:31Dude.
25:32He took care of me.
25:33You did not celebrate that when you won a national championship.
25:37This is much bigger.
25:38This is much bigger.
25:40This is a nicer trophy, and it's much bigger.
25:45Far more impactful for my career.
25:48Oh, my God.
25:49He's presenting Coach Ray the trophy.
25:51Wow.
25:54That was impressive.
25:56That was very impressive.
25:57There you go.
25:58And his jumping around in celebration was something to see.
26:03That was the proverbial nail-barned impression.
26:06What about the old cup?
26:07What about that cup?
26:08Yeah.
26:08The golden cup.
26:09Is that gone?
26:09Casey?
26:10Well, we were going to try and switch it to a belt.
26:13A big wrestling belt.
26:14Unfortunately, it didn't work out.
26:17We didn't get the artwork to the trophy maker in time, so we had to do this cup.
26:22Now, we could probably do a make-out on a cup if we wanted, you know.
26:25If we wanted to, but I already spent $180 on that thing.
26:28I'd like to dedicate this to our secretary, Helene, who her father just passed away, and she couldn't
26:37come today, and she's the biggest Preston and Steve fan in the world, and she roots for
26:43this more than us winning the national championship, so this is going to mean the world to her.
26:48This is for Helene Mercanty.
26:50Helene Mercanty.
26:51We love Helene.
26:52Fantastic.
26:53She's the best.
26:54Hey, let's bring all our coaches over now.
26:56No, coaches.
26:57And thank them one more time.
26:59Like we said, you know, to be here all together, it's pretty impressive that these guys are
27:05all able to do it, but Coach Howard, I think letting him go first might have been the thing
27:10that went wrong there.
27:12No, you know what?
27:13Coach got the rhythm going, man.
27:14Yeah.
27:15Stepped up big time in the clutch, as usual.
27:17That's what it does.
27:17And that's how you play basketball sometimes.
27:19You just got to give it to the hot hand, right?
27:22And you know, and you can tell who's hot, and you go, all right, just keep feeding them
27:25the ball.
27:26And you did that.
27:30Lesson learned.
27:31Lesson learned.
27:31You were strong, though.
27:33You just dominated right out of the gate, though.
27:35That was very impressive, so you got that.
27:37It was very cool.
27:38Coach Stumpy, I want to ask you about coaches versus cancer, because this is something
27:43that the City Six has gotten involved in for years and years, and can you talk about that
27:48real quick?
27:49Well, it's one of those things that we're always together and respect each other and have great
27:54relationships anyway, but I think the coaches versus cancer program has galvanized us even
27:59more so.
28:00I think the coaches in Philly have always been a together group, but with coaches versus
28:04cancer, there's nothing that beats it ever, other than you guys doing this today.
28:10But we're proud of it.
28:11Very, very proud of it.
28:12We're the leading fundraiser in the country, and you know what?
28:16We should be.
28:16Yeah.
28:17Because we're out in Philly, and there's six of us doing this, and we're grateful for
28:21our relationship.
28:22Now, of the six, two of you guys are facing off against each other.
28:26Is it tonight or tomorrow?
28:28Who's got the next head-to-head matchup?
28:30Are you aware?
28:31Saturday.
28:31Is it Saturday?
28:32Saturday, yep.
28:33All right.
28:33Who is it?
28:34The finals.
28:35The repeat of the finals.
28:37Oh, we do?
28:38Salvo and Ole.
28:39It is.
28:40And Sal and set me up.
28:42Oh, yes.
28:43I had nothing to do with it.
28:46Temple and St. Joe's will be the JV game.
28:48Get there early.
28:50We're at 5.30.
28:52What time are you?
28:53Three o'clock.
28:53Four.
28:54Four.
28:54Oh.
28:54No, it's awesome, though, to see you guys do this and to be so supportive, and you do
28:59the city proud all the time, and honestly, your support for this and the Camp Out for
29:02Hunger has been a major part of its success and its exponential growth over the past couple
29:07of years, so kudos to you.
29:09Round of applause for these guys.
29:10Absolutely.
29:11And their respective campuses as well.
29:14We had the ROTC from Temple by here the other day, and Coach Martelli.
29:18It's awesome that they're doing that castle building thing.
29:21I think that's great.
29:22So we appreciate the organizations you guys work for and what they do to support this
29:26cause.
29:26It's great.
29:27So congratulations, guys, and continued success and everything, and thanks for supporting
29:33this.
29:33We appreciate it.
29:34Thank you, guys.
29:35Appreciate it.
29:36Great job.
29:36City Six.
29:38I don't know where Zoo went.
29:40He's over there.
29:41I'm getting ready.
29:42I'm ready for the postgame show.
29:44There's a big-time homestand.
29:46Sixers played last night.
29:47They blew out the Knicks.
29:49They're home again on Friday night and then on Sunday as well.
29:53Do they do this because the Disney on ice takes over?
29:57And so do they have...
29:58Oh, you're talking about when we go out west.
30:00Yeah.
30:00Typically, I think the ice show comes.
30:02We're always out west between Christmas and New Year's.
30:04But we got Washington tomorrow at 7.
30:07We got Detroit Sunday at 6.
30:08If you can't make it out, all the action on NBC Sports Philadelphia and streaming live
30:12on the MyTeams app.
30:14Yes.
30:14Excellent.
30:15And if you mention that deal one more time with the app case and downloading it...
30:18If you download the MyTeams app, it's from NBC Sports Philadelphia.
30:22Every single download that happens today, they're going to donate $1 towards Phil Abundance
30:27through the Preston and Steve show.
30:28Awesome.
30:29All right.
30:29Camp Out for Hunger.
30:30And Nick?
30:30And is it...
30:31Do we do 10 pounds per point in that?
30:33Is that how that works?
30:34I believe...
30:34So that is 2,770 pounds from the city's papa shop for the Camp Out for Hunger Games.
30:43That's courtesy of Bebo Bakery's USA, which is awesome.
30:46So, hey, Mark, thank you, dude.
30:48Have me back, guys.
30:49Have me back.
30:50Mark, zoom off.
30:50You got it, guys.
30:52Great job.
30:53Great job, as always.
30:54That was by far the most exciting one we've done yet.
30:57Absolutely.
30:58Yep.
30:59By far.
30:59That was fantastic.
31:00I was like, oh, my God.
31:04I was like, oh, my God.
