Peep Show: Open Casket In A Park?

Dave & Chuck the Freak talk about a story out of Warren, MI where people called the people after spotting an open casket, with a body inside, at a public park.

00:00okay this i thought was fake someone sent me this the other day it was uh allegedly

00:11a detroit park that someone had put an open casket in okay all right okay in a park

00:19in the middle of a park no it wasn't fake it was real and people were freaking out about this

00:27the story uh from cbs news take a listen like everybody else i would say i was curious this

00:33warren resident who did not want to be identified says she was curious as to what was happening in

00:39this photo being shared on social media so i decided to come on up and check it out for myself

00:45and see if it truly was an open casket with a real deceased person in the casket and it certainly was

00:54you can also see a man sitting on the bench next to the open casket so she approached him to ask him

00:59what was happening he quickly identified himself that's a head that's a dead body just a casket

01:05no no it's a dead body in a casket in the middle of a park it's what he wanted or she wanted like

01:12what is this deal here's the funeral director from new york and that he was transporting this deceased

01:20woman to michigan to be buried and the cemetery that she was being buried at would not allow an

01:29open casket graveside so this gentleman decided to stop at butcher park here in warren to allow her

01:39remaining family that lived nearby to come and pay their final respects and see her for one last time

01:46so in case you missed that so this guy is driving this woman's body to michigan for her family

01:52funeral the funeral the um burial ground would not allow an open casket there so he just took her to

02:00a random park opened the casket so the family could come there and pay their respects apparently like

02:06yeah like apparently the family had not yet shown up i guess because it's a park where kids play of

02:13course yeah i mean this is a random this isn't what i would call the most beautiful park i've ever

02:18seen like it's it just looks like a normal park like right oh my neighborhood park yeah not like

02:24fancy park no where you'd that's something you'd expect to see scott don't go touch the

02:32dead person yeah you don't want to warn your kid about to stay away from the dead person so that

02:40they could have their closure yeah and this is exactly what warren police have confirmed detective

02:46carla rexford says what happened was not illegal but certainly unusual i've been with warren for 10

02:52years and we have never had a situation in my experience like this detective rexford says

02:57immediately warren pd received a flood of calls from the community questioning why an open casket

03:02was posted up in the middle of a park investigators first made sure the death was reported and again

03:07the story checked out everything was done legally but detective rexford says next time it wouldn't hurt

03:13to give the city a heads up this is a little bit of a weird situation like we said but all that we ask of

03:19the public is that you notify city hall and the police department if there's any sort of

03:23non-traditional ceremonies that anyone is going to be having um there's not going to be any sort of

03:28charges the family was just trying to pay their respects but just to prevent any further issues and make

03:34sure everything is done properly we do request that city hall and the police department is contacted

03:38again warren pd saying there was nothing illegal about displaying an open casket here at a public park

03:45but again they are urging anyone wishing to do so in the future to please contact city hall or warren pd

03:52that is the strangest story yeah i thought it was fake honestly when i'm like oh there wasn't that

03:58a dead body in the middle of a park uh yeah there was i mean i guess kudos to that funeral guy

04:05that goes above and beyond try and make it happen for the family they wanted to pay their final respects

04:12to an open casket and they were able to because of him i guess he found the right park maybe closest to

04:19the apparently the family lives close to this that's what it was so the guy sitting in the park

04:24was the guy who transferred yeah he was the body yeah the dude that's nuts he had to like that's nuts

04:30that it's part of their job to drive a body like across state lines and stuff yeah just you and the

04:35body right road trip you ready for a trip cafe don't make any noises back there also maybe let's keep

04:44it closed until the whole family shows up and then we can open it up and put her on display

04:50then because i mean there was no one else there just him in the body yeah that's it he was no big

04:55deal to him eating lunch whatever yeah open it up i don't know if i'd call the police if i saw that

05:00though i feel like something's you know i don't know i'd be like it's none of my business probably

05:06that's a dead person yeah i probably wouldn't call the police because i just the last thing i need

05:11in my life oh my god i'm looking at a dead body in the park that's people though that's people

05:26you're not gonna believe what i'm seeing right now a dead body yeah it's a dead body in the park

05:31you're in warren yep yeah we we get a lot of dead bodies in warren hello please i see a dead body

05:38oh sir please send someone did you kill someone in a park no this body set up like funeral

05:44gotta go bye okay that's not the former mayor oh gosh oh he'd be floating he'd just be floating

05:56in the park like a vampire it is a strange i mean there's a baseball diamond right there yeah yeah

06:03there's just no one there it's just the funeral would you go anywhere near that no no but i mean like

06:09family like he's got this set up hours before the family was set to arrive yeah

06:15just keep it closed keep it closed i mean wouldn't you just do it like in your house or driveway

06:23if you you know i don't know i don't know how big this party wouldn't let me see grandma

06:27at the cemetery you'd think that somebody's house would be more appropriate like a backyard

06:34yeah yeah they're gonna do it but maybe they didn't want it at their house the body i don't

06:39know i get it too i will i would want to have the i'm having a big shindig in my backyard yeah and

06:45then oh yeah that comes from oh my god it's me again i'm a neighbor with person they bring

06:56dead body to barbecue please help please send help oh my god you're not gonna believe it i'm having a

07:04i got my grandkids over we're having a swimming pool party and there's a dead body next door

07:11hi 911 there are a couple of freaks next door that have brought a cask in the body to the backyard

07:18that is what would happen it is what would happen that's why people called the cops so just of course

07:25they called the cops yeah they're flabbergasted by this dave didn't even believe it was real he's

07:31like it can't be real i didn't believe it was it's got the official casket bottom you know like with

07:37the wheels yeah i would have thought when i when i first saw it without before i realized that was a

07:43human head um i was like oh someone stole a hearst or something and it had like a casket in the back and

07:51they just dumped it in the middle of a park oh no they found really nice trees and they wheeled

07:57her over to it see that in ireland it's even crazier right i think it's three days the body stays in the

08:02house but they just put it in someone's home oh it's just not like in the living park it's just

08:06yeah and i remember that with you know back in the day it was terrifying as we david

08:11i'd run past that living room yeah because it just chills all night in there too right like no way

08:18you gotta go to sleep yeah you go upstairs that dead body's right down there oh my god yeah yeah

08:24that would have messed me up yeah i'm surprised i wasn't mute all of a sudden no it was no good you guys

08:31uh jr is with us in cape coral hi jr what's your comment on this well uh one of my best friends

08:37from college uh i think funeral businesses are passed from family to family members the sons the

08:44daughters blah blah blah but uh this uh this friend um basically every once in a while insurance

08:53companies will pay him to go to a different country i mean any country in the world because

09:00people die on vacation i'm not talking about military i'm talking about just average citizens

09:06yeah oh yeah and he he said it is such a weird dynamic he we smoke cigars together he he tells

09:16me these stories about trying to get through customs and stuff because you have a dead body

09:23yeah right i mean it's really i mean wait listen try to diet around home

09:27yeah if you can if you can but a lot of old people are like no i mean i have to get going

09:35i've got to be on a cruise ship somewhere i'm in belize that's a travel job you didn't know about

09:41yeah i never thought about that you go to all these exotic locations yeah but then you just got this

09:47body bag with you yeah and you got to try and explain it into a ruba yeah i'll be it's gonna

09:54take me a little bit to get your grandmother home yep business expense yeah yeah i'll get i hit the

09:59beach in a couple of days of personal time you got grandma on the beach with you i know not good get
