He also loves ginseng suppositories. They keep him young.

00:00My little snapper didn't like it, but I showed him a pill.
00:08He says, if that goes in there, I'll send you a bill.
00:19I became aware of you, obviously, because of the office creed.
00:22And then we've been friendly with Kate Flannery for a long time because she's from the area as well.
00:26Horrible person.
00:26Just a potty mouth and a disgusting human being, really.
00:32After the office ended and then it's had this resurgence over the last five, six years or whatever, especially because of the pandemic, I did a deep dive on you.
00:39And I became a little obsessed.
00:40Like, your life is fascinating.
00:42The stuff you've done over the years.
00:43Was the office kind of just another gig for you at that point?
00:47Like, how did you get involved with it in the first place?
00:50And did you just look at it as a job?
00:51I don't even think about it anymore.
00:52You know, I just kind of let it go behind me.
00:55You know, I've forgotten it.
00:56Yeah.
00:56No impact?
00:57No impact.
00:59Yeah.
00:59It's that one and done.
01:02I would think you kind of built your character a bit.
01:07A lot of what you are and sort of the mystery of your life.
01:11I mean, you have so many things that just seem improbable.
01:14And that's what Nick and I were talking earlier.
01:16That's what makes Creed such a character and you at the same time.
01:20I said, if there was anyone who in that cast had done something horrible, it was Creed.
01:26It was going to be me.
01:27Yeah.
01:27And they would get me out at NBC.
01:30Apparently, I'd kill people and NBC just kind of covered it over.
01:35There's this dark history.
01:37And the character's name is Creed Braden.
01:39Your name is Creed Braden.
01:40And like you, every now and then, there's hints that you were a serial killer.
01:44Yeah.
01:44Yeah.
01:45There was.
01:45And I, there was bodies in my, sir, there's been a murder committed.
01:49I'll be right back.
01:50And I'm out of there in the car.
01:51You always ran whenever there was any authority coming into the building, you would run.
01:55And yet the funny thing was, Creed, is that it had something I think we can all, people
02:00would be going, yeah, but he's our serial killer.
02:03Like, like, you know, like be true to your school.
02:04That old song.
02:05That was the Dexter.
02:06Yeah.
02:06Yeah.
02:06Exactly.
02:07We love our guy.
02:08It's funny because with a show like The Office or some other seminal TV comedies, what now
02:14has become the thing is, you know, for years and years and years, the blooper reel would
02:18be shown to the people in the cast, like I guess at the end of the year and so on and
02:22so forth.
02:22But these things now are very prominent on YouTube and The Office is, is neck and neck
02:29with The Office bloopers and the outtakes.
02:31And you have so many moments in those that are free lines where you are just cracking
02:36the cast up and it's just out of left field.
02:39Yeah.
02:40Carnaval.
02:42Exactly.
02:43Carnaval is one.
02:44That kills me.
02:45We've been in that office, that business area so, so long.
02:48We were all so tired.
02:50I think that was just, I was exhausted.
02:53So that line just came out of frustration.
02:55I think, you know.
02:56I mean, because you're on a set that is supposed to be a boring office.
03:00So you're going to, you're going to, no matter how much it is, pretend you're still in a
03:04boring office.
03:05And our camera guys are ramboing around with the camera.
03:07So you had to be, as I'm sure as Kate told you anytime.
03:10Yeah.
03:10Yeah.
03:11You always had to be on and ready for them to flip around at you anytime.
03:13We've been fascinated by your, your musical career and, and the, you're with the grassroots.
03:19And we talked last time we had you on the zoom, um, inter working with the people and
03:23the famous, the, the, the wrecking crew and other musicians, uh, John Densmore, a friend
03:28of yours.
03:29Best man at my wedding.
03:30Best man at your wedding.
03:31No kidding.
03:31Yeah.
03:31I mean, this is, you are well fixed in this part of musical and pop culture history.
03:38When people find out about that, are, are, are they as amazed as, as are we?
03:43I mean, is this, you know, because you have this whole thing that you offer and, um, it
03:47was the first part of your life and it's been, I don't want to say it's been eclipsed, but
03:51certainly the office has been a formidable thing in your life.
03:54You have these two in completely different parts.
03:56A lot of people think that that's, that was it.
03:59Yeah.
03:59That the grassroots and then the, then the office, but a lot of people don't know that
04:04after the, after the, uh, office, I got my doctor degree and I perform a surgery, you
04:10know, for homeless people in my van.
04:12That's what else?
04:13Is any of it sanctioned?
04:14Yeah.
04:15No, but I just, I want to give back.
04:18You were, you were talking last time about slightly altered, which is an album that you
04:26called a folk adjacent and, and, um, did I say that?
04:32Yeah.
04:32As far as creativity goes.
04:36And we've had a lot of times you'll find that, and this is, and you'd be a perfect example.
04:40A lot of people who are musically inclined and musicians are also pretty good at comedy
04:46can, can step up and do, can do that as well.
04:49I think it's the timing.
04:50It has to be, right?
04:51It has to be the timing.
04:52Yeah.
04:52Because it seems to be something that just figures like, you know, Preston's a drummer,
04:56anybody, all that stuff sort of goes into, into, you know, knowing when and when not
05:00to jump in.
05:01Mm-hmm.
05:02Can you imagine Jim Morrison as a standup guy?
05:04Yeah.
05:05I just flew in from Vegas and boy are my arms tired and on the way I effed my mother.
05:16That, that late sixties, uh, Steve, I know is, loves the movie, uh, once upon a time
05:22in Hollywood, the Quentin Tarantino film.
05:24It really captures that.
05:25It does.
05:26That timeframe very well.
05:27And it seems like it was, uh, an interesting period to be a young man.
05:32I was kind of a guy's actually a reluctant rock star.
05:35No kidding.
05:36Yeah.
05:36I didn't, everybody, you have to decide, I signed on for it to be a party guy and do
05:40all this stuff.
05:41But we were, we were pretty tough.
05:42I mean, the Led Zeppelin were pussies, you know, to us, I remember, I remember, I remember,
05:47you know, to the grassroots.
05:47Oh my God, we were wild.
05:49Yeah.
05:50I remember when we were in Chicago and, uh, and doing some lines and one of the guys says,
05:55hey, throw this TV out the window.
05:56And I went, all right.
05:59But I did it, but my heart wasn't in it.
06:01You just were not, you were tearing up hotel rooms.
06:04I'd wake up in the morning and go, oh God, I got to do drugs again.
06:07But now I'd rather be watching PBS and, uh, right.
06:14Yeah.
06:15Slave to the job, making a waffles.
06:17Making a waffles.
06:18Yeah.
06:18Yeah.
06:19Exactly.
06:20You had a reputation to uphold and.
06:22Yeah.
06:22I got it.
06:23This show must go on.
06:24Yeah.
06:25I was.
06:27You have a birthday coming up, uh, February 8th.
06:30And I cannot believe this, that you will be 81 years old.
06:3581.
06:35Sir, you do not look anywhere in the neighborhood of 80 years old.
06:40Those drugs worked wonders.
06:41Yes, they did.
06:43I think it's mostly the ginseng suppository.
06:46Oh, ginseng suppository.
06:48During the 60s.
06:49Yeah, yeah.
06:49I was given some.
06:51In the beginning, my little snapper didn't like them.
06:54But now it kind of looks forward to it.
06:55Wow.
06:56In fact, it opens up like, like a hippo waiting.
06:58Welcome.
06:59Welcome, Creed.
07:00Your little, that should be the name of your next record.
07:02The little snapper.
07:03The little snapper.
07:05That'd be great.
07:07Yeah.
07:07It'll be an inside joke.
07:08Yeah, yeah.
07:09And then you'll throw suppositories out to the audience.
07:11Yeah.
07:12It could be a guitar pick.
07:13It could be a band, too.
07:13Little snapper and the pancakes.
07:15Oh, my gosh.
07:16The gluten-free snappers.
07:20So my daughters, actually, both my daughters are currently doing the theater at their school.
07:26And my oldest is a senior.
07:28You just talked to her.
07:29I FaceTimed her because she's a huge fan of yours.
07:30Yes, yes.
07:30Yeah.
07:31But, you know, just this idea of, like, her going into the arts because that's what she's
07:35going to do next year in college.
07:36You know, I have to sit down and talk to her about the reality of the craft.
07:43And because we went and saw a show at the University of Michigan, and it was Guys and Dolls.
07:47And it was awesome.
07:48I mean, Michigan Music Theater is the best in the country, and these people are so talented.
07:53I said, but you know that guy that was playing the grandfather?
07:56I said, when he graduates, he's not going to be playing grandfathers anymore because then
08:02you're out in, like, the general population.
08:04You know what I mean?
08:04So, like, he's going to play a grandfather when he's actually of that age.
08:08You know what I mean?
08:09And so the roles kind of get a little bit tighter and all that sort of stuff.
08:11So I don't know if you have any words of advice for any of the young people out there
08:18that are pursuing this career.
08:21You say, don't do it.
08:23Well, have thick skin.
08:25Yeah.
08:26And a willing sphincter.
08:28I knew from a young age I could make people laugh.
08:31Yeah.
08:32That was a given.
08:34So I had that always in the back of my mind that I could do that.
08:36I think sometimes people try to work with their strength, and they try to emulate people
08:47that they've seen, that they admire, and that can be good.
08:50But I think if you can find, like, I showed all my warts and dark spots when I did my audition
08:56tape for The Office.
08:57Really?
08:57Yeah.
08:58I went to places that were uncomfortable and self-deprecating.
09:03And so I tell people, don't work just with your strength.
09:07Work with your weaknesses, too.
09:08And show all that.
09:09Show it all.
09:10I can't believe you have any.
09:11Be that honest.
09:12I can't believe you have any weaknesses.
09:15Oh, Nick.
09:17You're adorable.
09:19He's so sweet.
09:22I need to mention we have a new sponsor, and I want to thank them for sponsoring this
09:25segment.
09:25The Creed interview is brought to you by Genseng Suppositories.
09:30Make your snapper happy.
09:33But, no, tonight, you will be on stage.
09:37Hey, he's picking up the guitar.
09:39What are we doing here?
09:40Is this a new song?
09:42No, it's the Genseng Suppository.
09:45The jingle.
09:46Jingle, which he's going to write right now.
09:48I can't believe it.
09:49Exactly, exactly.
09:49I'm going to cry.
09:50Hang on.
09:51While he's getting set up.
09:53Are you going to perform Freedom?
09:54I think we just tuned this guitar.
09:55My little snapper didn't like it when I showed him a pill.
10:15He says, if that goes in there, I'll send you a bill.
10:21When I started feeling younger, I got my balls in a ruproar.
10:34Oh, Genseng Suppository.
10:36Give me a thrill.
10:38Yeah!
10:43Wow.
10:45Wow.
10:46And an empire is born.
10:48What a moment.
10:49What a moment.
10:50Take that, Elon Musk.
10:52Brilliant.
10:53Absolutely brilliant.
10:54Oh, my God.
10:55All right.
10:56Creed, thank you so much for stopping by.
10:57Thanks for having me, everybody.
10:58I appreciate it.
10:58We appreciate it.
10:59Creed Bratton, everyone.
10:59Yeah!
10:59Yeah!
11:00Yeah!

11:37Yeah!
11:38Yeah!
