Clearwater Police Officer Honored By His Wife For First Responder Friday

00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.

00:06Let's honor another First Responder on 99.5 QYK.

00:11It is First Responder Friday. We got Melissa on the phone with us. What's up, Melissa? How are you?

00:16Hi, good morning. How are you?

00:17We're great. So I'm excited. We get to honor your husband, Henry, today.

00:21Tell us about Henry as a First Responder and where he serves our community.

00:24So he's a police officer in Clearwater.

00:26So he's always had a desire to be law enforcement, as long as I've known him.

00:30So six years ago, he decided to take a plunge, and he started working.

00:35So in that short amount of time, he's accomplished quite a bit.

00:37So he started out on patrol, answering calls for service, and then he moved to an anti-crime unit working in Clearwater Beach.

00:43And then from there, he joined the traffic team, focusing on DUIs and getting drunk drivers off the road.

00:48So on top of his normal duty, he serves as honor guard, and he's on call for a traffic homicide unit

00:55and has gone to school to become a DRE.

00:58So that's a drug recognition expert.

01:00So he stays pretty busy.

01:02Wow, he's a driven guy, it sounds like.

01:04Yeah, definitely.

01:05Do you guys ever get to see each other?

01:07I know, right?

01:09We were queen.

01:10So when you guys do get to see each other, what are some things you guys like to do?

01:14We like to spend time with our family.

01:15We do Disney a lot, so that's fun for us.

01:18All right.

01:19Oh, do you have kids?

01:20Yeah.

01:20How many kids do you have?

01:22Two.

01:22Aw.

01:23Very nice.

01:23Love it.

01:24Hey, so Melissa, you said that he had a calling go into this.

01:28What do you think that calling was?

01:29What do you see in him that just kind of this satisfies that need?

01:33Definitely just wanting to serve his community and make a difference.

01:36So he's always, always wanted to do that.

01:37And I will say within his first few months with the agency, he was recognized with the Medal of Distinguished Service.

01:43Seeing that and watching him recognize, that's what it's all about.

01:47That's what he does it for.

01:48Wow.

01:49Well, it sounds like a very, very driven and a great person to be serving our community.

01:55And we're so thankful for that.

01:56And we're thankful that you reached out.

01:58Melissa, we know it takes a lot, too, as a spouse of somebody who serves our community.
