00:00Hello, everybody. Welcome on in. It is so good to have you with us. Yes, we're still here. Kate, Thierry, Jamie and Micah.
00:10We've had two quarterfinals in the Champions League, which are now completed.
00:14And we're going to take you through some of the action from the one between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
00:19In fact, no, first of all, we're going to talk to Marcus Turam of Inter Milan, who is through to the Champions League semi-finals.
00:27Yes. How does that feel?
00:30How is this guy? I'm exhausted.
00:34Is it a tough game? Tired. Very, very, very, very. I got cramps. I got everything. I'm tired. I'm ready to go to bed.
00:46Marcus, I wanted to ask you a question here. We've seen you home and away suffer so much.
00:55And that often, that doesn't happen often. Sorry. Why do you think that is? Why couldn't you control the game a bit more?
01:01I know you went through. That's not the point. But it seems like you were not in control of the game.
01:05Well, I think Bayern had a very aggressive style of playing. I think they were pressuring us men against men the whole pitch.
01:14So I think we're struggling a bit to develop our game. And yeah, I think we consider it more than often. It is true.
01:20Marcus, can I ask you not just about tonight, but last week as well. I thought your partnership with Martinez and especially on the first goal was absolutely fantastic.
01:32And we don't see two strikers too often now at the top level of European football. Tell me about the partnership.
01:40Well, it's very, very nice to play alongside him. He's a great striker. We complete each other very well.
01:46And it's true that when games are tough like this, we need to play together and we need to play in symbiose together.
01:52And that's what we're trying to do.
01:53Marcus, do you think it would have been possible for me and Micah Richards to handle the two of you?
02:00Yes, every day.
02:03Marcus, you're up for the treble. Can you do it?
02:08Well, we are. We are competing on every three tables. We're going to try and do our best and we're going to take games after games and hopefully we can reach the end.
02:20Come on, Marcus. Give me a bit more than that, baby.
02:22Come on, liven up, man.
02:26I'm being very, very corporate tonight.
02:30Barcelona next, remember?
02:33Barcelona, yes.
02:34Oh, he's gone all serious. He's on CBS.
02:39He thinks he's talking to somebody else.
02:42This is CBS, Marcus.
02:44We don't do corporate.
02:47It is a great team. We have our chances.
02:50Like, they have their chances.
02:52It's going to be a big semi-final game.
02:54And before we have games in the league and the semi-cup final of Italy.
02:59So we have to focus on games after games, like I said.
03:02Marcus, look, because I know you, I can see that you're a bit tense and upset.
03:06What did upset you in that game?
03:09What upsets me?
03:10Yeah.
03:11Yeah.
03:11You look bothered.
03:14No, no, no. I'm okay.
03:16Okay, okay, okay.
03:18We'll talk about it after.
03:20Yeah, yeah. We'll do our usual FaceTime night call.
03:24Marcus, why do you call Thierry uncle? I just want to know this.
03:30I say every time I come here.
03:32Well, say it again.
03:34He's my uncle because he's the brother of my dad.
03:39So, you know, so he's my uncle.
03:43Thierry, you have a very, very, very nice suit tonight.
03:47What about me and Micah? Can you see us?
03:54Both, yeah.
03:55Micah, a bit tight.
03:56Oh!
04:05Is it always you, Micah?
04:06I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
04:07Why always leave?
04:09Oh, dear.
04:10Well, Micah.
04:10Can't catch a break, man.
04:12I don't know if you know this, but the way that this is going to happen for you,
04:15the semi-finals, you'll play at Barcelona.
04:17On the Wednesday, in the first leg.
04:19So, return leg at home, which I'm sure you're happy about.
04:21We wish you all the very best of luck for that.
04:23Thank you again for joining us.
04:24We always appreciate you making some noise.
04:25Well done, Marcus!
04:26Thank you very much.
04:28Good luck.
04:28And good to sleep.
04:29Bye-bye.
04:29We will do.
04:30Yes, bye-bye, bye-bye.
04:31Bye-bye, bye-bye.
04:34Micah!
04:35He's gone.
04:35He's actually left.
04:37No, he's really left the studio.
04:38We've heard his feelings now.
04:40Oh, here he comes.
04:41Here he comes.
04:41Honest to God.
04:42The button is about to pop, though.
04:44This fat shabbing, honest to God.
04:46Fat shabbing, whatever you call it.
04:47What did you call it?
04:48Fat shabbing, fat shabbing, whatever you call it.
04:50I've had enough.
04:51Fat shabbing.
04:52Fat shabbing.
04:52Honest to God.
04:54Welcome back.
04:56What is it, the protein?
04:58I don't know.
04:58I'm in training as well.
05:00I know that's probably the problem I'm saying.
05:02You pump an iron protein.
05:04Oh, I thought you said I was eating.
05:05Is that all the meals?
05:06Oh.
05:07Oh.
05:08You had a bit.
05:08What did you order at lunch?
05:10Oh.
05:11Wingstop.
05:12Mmm.
05:13Delicious.
05:14We enjoyed a bit of Wingstop, though, didn't we?
05:15Yeah.
05:16We all did.
05:16There we go.
05:18Yes, thank you, Micah.
05:20That was very kind of you.
05:21The Wingstop.
05:22Oh, no, no, thank you.
05:22It was very generous of you.
05:23You're always very generous.
05:24Yes.
05:24It would be nice when Jenny brings us something.
05:26Oh.
05:27Tierra brings us chocolate.
05:29Yes.
05:30To be fair, you bring the food.
05:31Yes.
05:32You bring the chocolate.
05:33I don't really bring it.
05:34We don't bring anything, do we?
05:35I bought something recently.
05:37Last week, I believe it was.
05:38What was it?
05:39Some biscuits.
05:39Cookies.
05:40Cookies.
05:40Cookies, yeah.
05:41OK.
05:42I'll bring something for the semi.
05:43All right.
05:44OK.
05:44Look forward to it.
05:46OK, so production have been asking me for five minutes to go to the highlights of this
05:50game.
05:50Inter Milan against Bayern.
05:52Let's start with Harry Kane, 52nd minute.
05:55Yeah, it was a really great finish.
05:57I mean, sorry for Harry Kane in the first leg.
06:00He missed that big chance, didn't he?
06:01But he takes this chance ever so well.
06:03He just moves it to the side and then just goes through DeMarco's legs.
06:07I mean, a player, when he's in this position here, you always expect him to score, Thierry.
06:13No, and he does it on purpose all the time to go through the legs of a player.
06:16I had the chance to interview him and he said he does it on purpose.
06:19He shifts and he tries to go between the legs of a player.
06:22And then...
06:22Equaliser, Thierry Martinez.
06:24Yeah, the equaliser.
06:25We, at one point, all thought that it was a non-ball, not on purpose, but because I
06:29think he doesn't know about it, he touches it first and it's close to his arm, to his
06:35body, sorry, and then he finishes.
06:38If you give a chance like that to Lautaro, even though he's a lucky one, he's not going
06:42to miss that close to the goal.
06:441-1.
06:45But to concede two goals from two corners within three or four minutes is just, at this level,
06:52is not acceptable.
06:53But initially, Eric Dier keeps him in the game.
06:57Oh, great.
06:58That is just unbelievable defending.
07:00But from the resultant corner, would you believe they conceded a goal?
07:03And he doesn't deserve that, Eric Dier.
07:05Look at this.
07:05That is absolutely outstanding.
07:09But from the corner, Harvard scores the goal.
07:15And as I said, four minutes before, Martinez has scored from a corner from the other side
07:19in almost identical position.
07:22And at this level of football, you can concede goals like that in quick succession.
07:26In your 60-yard boards or something.
07:28Yeah.
07:28Yeah, not good enough.
07:30And then a good challenge off the line by Dier.
07:32Actually, he gets one, doesn't he?
07:34Oh, that's a great finish.
07:35This is really well worked.
07:37Find the space.
07:38And then I don't know if he's trying to head it back just into the danger area, but I'll
07:43give him the benefit of the doubt.
07:44It's a goal of Vertonghen against Japan in the World Cup 2018.
07:48Same.
07:50Well, it gets into a nice area.
07:51He's rewarded for trying to keep the ball alive anyway.
07:53Correct.
07:56But he threw everything at it.
07:57That gave him a chance.
07:58That was in the 76th minute.
08:00So with injury time, you're talking probably 20 minutes that they had.
08:04Well, over 20 minutes when you see the six minutes added on.
08:08And Harry Kane, half chance really.
08:10But for a lot of the first half, this is what the game was like.
08:13Bayern Munich with lots of bodies in the box.
08:16We're just getting outnumbered in there.
08:18Lots of bodies in there for Inter Milan.
08:19To be fair, obviously being here, you have to put everything together.
08:24But in the first half, they had so many chances.
08:27Ball in the box, passing by, maybe scoring or not.
08:30That's the last one of Kingsley Coman.
08:32Going over the crossbar.
08:34This is why you saw all the...
08:35You see, they all fell on the floor.
08:37They couldn't even celebrate the win.
08:38You could see that Marcus was really tired.
08:41Did you feel like Bayern got the approach right tonight to this game?
08:44Yeah.
08:45Yeah.
08:45I mean, what Thierry said before, they were the better team over two legs.
08:48We saw that last week.
08:50But they just haven't been as clinical as Inter Milan.
08:54The killer goal is to concede so late at home.
08:58When you've made it 1-1 and you probably get a little bit carried away thinking you can go and win the game.
09:02And looking back at it now, 1-1 would have been a really good result for them.
09:05To lose two on at home was a real blow for them so late.
09:08You did the analysis on the Martinez.
09:10How good do you think he is?
09:12I think he's as good as anyone in the competition left in terms of striker.
09:15And that worries me a little bit when I look at Arsenal.
09:20You know, who's through the middle?
09:21We talk about the striker.
09:22No Jesus, no Havertz.
09:24You know, Mourinho there.
09:25He's done a good job.
09:26But you look at those two, that is like, oh, that's top draw.
09:30I mean, we just had our meeting and your nephew.
09:33But I think the fella alongside him is like, he's top, top draw to Martinez, yeah.
09:43Well, we did mention to you that David Beckham will be on the show on the post game.
09:47He's coming up today.
09:47If you're wondering why, here's a little clue why.
09:51So I've just arrived in my studio for Beckham and Friends Live, my new Champions League show.
09:57And I must admit, it all looks so beautiful.
10:00Beckham and Friends Live on Paramount+.
10:03It's very exciting.
10:12Woo!
10:14We've hit the big time now, haven't we?
10:16Oh, yeah.
10:17Emmy nominees and we've got Beckham.
10:20What's next?
10:21Sky the limit, no?
10:22Yeah, what is next?
10:23Can you go any higher than that, Beckham and an Emmy?
10:26How hard is it to say Emmy nominee, by the way?
10:28Emmy nominee, yeah.
10:29You've got to really slow it down.
10:31Yeah.
10:31Back to Beckham.
10:32That studio, by the way, is just kind of across the way, isn't it?
10:36But it's very cool.
10:37This is going to be semi-finals.
10:38We're going to have him in the building.
10:40He's going to have all of his famous friends coming through.
10:43Are we invited?
10:44Who also will be invited?
10:45We don't have to go.
10:45Are we going to invite now?
10:46I don't know.
10:47I'm not in charge of the show.
10:48You're going to have to ask David.
10:49Oh.
10:49A-listers.
10:50Do you do qualify?
10:51Are you hosting that one?
10:53Are you leaving?
10:54You'll be invited.
10:55Are you leaving us to join that one?
10:56I believe I'm...
10:57Yes, I am hosting that one.
10:59Oh!
11:00Yes.
11:01And you don't invite us now?
11:03Kate likes to pretend that she's not happy.
11:05I know, yeah.
11:06Come on.
11:07I'm not in charge of the show, Mike.
11:08I don't run it.
11:09I'm happy.
11:09Yes, I'm very happy to be part of it.
11:10Who's in charge of the show?
11:11So, carry on and to be part of it.
11:12Name names.
11:13Who's in charge?
11:14Who's in charge?
11:14I want to know.
11:16You have to ask these questions to David.
11:18He's coming in later.
11:19I think you should ask him.
11:20Put him on the spot.
11:20But you're living on the show?
11:22I don't understand.
11:23Pardon?
11:24You are with him on the show?
11:25Yes, I am.
11:25Would you rather do the semi-final with him or with us?
11:29What a question.
11:30You know where my heart lies, everybody.
11:32OK.
11:33We'll tell him when he comes in.
11:34Oh, brilliant.
11:35OK, we'll look forward to that conversation.
11:39We're going to go to a very quick break.
11:40We'll be back.
11:41We've still got to show you the highlights of the other quarterfinal from tonight.
11:44Real Madrid against Arsenal.
11:45We'll bring you that and more in just a few.
11:47Good evening.
11:59Good evening. Welcome back.
12:15The director has called me Katie.
12:17Unnecessarily in my ear, it's not Katie.
12:19Hi everybody, good to have you still with us.
12:22So, Real Madrid, what's up with you?
12:24Nothing.
12:25Oh, Real Madrid against Arsenal.
12:26We want to talk about this game,
12:28we want to show you the highlights, the action from this one.
12:30So, we had an early penalty incident.
12:32Arsenal giving a penalty.
12:33Raul Asensio taking down Mikel Moreno.
12:35Do you want to take us through this one?
12:36Yeah, to be honest, I thought it was quite soft.
12:38I mean, he's in the Premier League all the time,
12:40but I understand why it was given.
12:43He's holding him and he's away from him,
12:46holding him too long.
12:47But yeah, I think it's probably the right decision.
12:51But yeah, sometimes we're given, sometimes we're not.
12:54I think it's just probably the timing is holding him,
12:57stopped his run.
12:58I think it goes down a little bit easily.
12:59But yeah, I understand why it was given.
13:02But could you understand that decision?
13:04No, I couldn't understand that.
13:06I mean, chance to go four and a look.
13:08The pen anchor, Thierry talked about it at half-time.
13:11Why not go down the middle?
13:13But it's full of confidence and it didn't matter on the night.
13:18Yeah, and the one that we were waiting for five minutes
13:24to see if it was a penalty on Kylian Mbappe.
13:28As you're going to see here, they decided that it wasn't enough to be a penalty.
13:37We heard Christiana talking about it earlier and I did agree.
13:42Yeah.
13:43Just didn't agree with not explaining it and the five minutes.
13:47Well done.
13:51I guess ultimately it makes no difference really.
13:54But five minutes does feel unreasonable.
13:57It feels out of proportion.
13:59And the lack of transparency, I think, is something you always talk about, Thierry,
14:02which just makes the whole process feel very frustrating.
14:05That is the thing.
14:07That's what I was trying to say to Christiana.
14:09It's not about what she's explaining or what I'm talking about.
14:12Can we hear what you're talking about?
14:14I'm talking about the people in the van.
14:17What are you seeing?
14:18What are you trying to explain?
14:20Can we understand what you're feeling or what you saw?
14:23We never know.
14:24We're here waiting and looking at each other, trying to find out what's happening.
14:28It took five minutes.
14:29It was way too long.
14:30And I do want to hear it.
14:32We should go down to the room and see.
14:36Because there must be a process.
14:37They're not taking five minutes for no reason, are they?
14:40But it would be nice, like you said, just to have a little bit of information
14:44of what's going on.
14:45What do you mean we should go down there?
14:46They'll be there next door.
14:48No, well, there's one here.
14:49You know, VAR's upstairs here for the Premier League.
14:52So we can see how it works.
14:54The Premier League one upstairs.
14:55Oh.
14:56I'll have to know that.
14:57Yeah.
14:58Are we just going to say what's up to that?
14:59We're in the building every week.
15:00Come a little knock.
15:01Why not?
15:03But, I mean, it's difficult because we always criticise them.
15:06Five minutes is right, what Thierry says.
15:08It's too long.
15:09They must be going through all different sorts of processes.
15:12We need to know what they're going through.
15:14You're checking offside if the cross comes in,
15:16but you only check that after you've checked the foul.
15:18As soon as he started checking offside, I thought he must be giving it.
15:21Because once you've...
15:22I know how it works in that sense.
15:24OK, we're looking at the foul.
15:25We think it's a foul.
15:26OK, is there anything else involved it offside?
15:29It shouldn't...
15:30That should have been one minute.
15:31You look at that foul from two or three different angles.
15:33Most people look at it and think it's not a penalty.
15:36Yeah.
15:37I don't think it's that difficult.
15:38Then you check offside or anything else.
15:40And we're moving on.
15:42I thought you were supposed to do it a little more smoothly than that.
15:47That was a very abrupt end.
15:48No, I just get straight to the point.
15:49Move on.
15:50All right, cool.
15:51Well, let's move on with Bukayo Saka then and this goal.
15:53You would wonder whether that penalty, the failed penalty, would kind of stick in his mind, Jamie.
15:57No, it obviously didn't.
15:58And that's the sign of a top-class player.
16:00Mentally very strong, not just the ability.
16:02But when you think of what he did in the first half in terms of the penalty,
16:06he does something similar here.
16:08But this is the right situation to do.
16:10It's a brilliant finish.
16:11A keeper of the class of courts.
16:12You have to dink it over.
16:13Not easy.
16:14He's a huge figure in the goal.
16:16Initially, we weren't quite sure if it would be given offside, but it wasn't.
16:21And listen, big credit to Saka there.
16:24When you've got that on your mind in terms of the penalty,
16:26as I said, to still have that confidence.
16:28Don't forget, he's probably still not back at us 100% best.
16:31He's still coming back after a long-term injury, Thierry.
16:33Yeah, I just wanted to add something on the goal, and we're going to see the finishing
16:37and the pass from Merino.
16:38And I want to talk about the passer, Merino, and Bukayo does ever so well here.
16:42He flicks the ball first and foremost, Merino.
16:44And people say it's not about being a nine or not.
16:47He plays that position ever so well since he has come inside, obviously, to play as a nine.
16:53He was very good tonight, Merino.
16:56And we all know that Bukayo Saka has that in his locker.
16:58We've seen him missing a penalty at the Euro.
17:00It didn't bother him.
17:01And it didn't bother him tonight.
17:03Yes!
17:04Yes!
17:05Yes!
17:06Yes!
17:07Yes!
17:08Saka!
17:09Into the Champions League semi-finals.
17:11How does it feel?
17:12How does it feel?
17:14It feels great.
17:16Can't really sum it up.
17:17You know, we've been amazing over two legs and I'm just so happy to be through.
17:21Does it matter more that it was against Real Madrid?
17:24Does that make it feel bigger?
17:25Yeah, it does, to be fair, because they're a great team and obviously we beat them at home and we saw all the stuff that was going on social media and stuff like that saying that we're going to come back.
17:36So, you know, I think we showed great mentality tonight to come here.
17:39I thought we were really comfortable from the first minute to the last and, yeah, we showed our quality.
17:44So, I'm so proud of everyone.
17:46Saka!
17:47Big Meeks! Uncle Meeks!
17:49You know, I love you!
17:50I love you so much!
17:52What a player!
17:53What a guy!
17:54Come on!
17:55Let's bring it home now, eh?
17:57Are you an Arsenal fan or not?
17:58Because sometimes you are, sometimes you're not.
17:59I don't want to tell tales, but I do think that Jamie and Micah might owe you an apology tonight.
18:03Why?
18:04Why?
18:05Why?
18:06What happened?
18:07Tell me.
18:08Just the commentary about the penalty.
18:09No, no, no, no, no, no.
18:11It was fair and honest.
18:12Ah, tell me.
18:13No, no, no, no, Saka.
18:15Micah called you, said you went for the Penenka and you ended up looking like a palonka.
18:20No!
18:23No, I don't believe that.
18:24I don't believe that.
18:25Exactly.
18:26Exactly.
18:27But, Kyle, can I ask you, you mentioned before about, you know, with it being Real Madrid
18:33and stuff, that I'm feeling a little bit better.
18:35I want to speak about your mentality.
18:37So, you've took a penalty in a pressured situation.
18:40You've missed it.
18:41I'm sure it was playing on your mind a little bit just after it.
18:44But, in terms of being a top class player and being able to get over things within game
18:49and then finish like you did for the goal.
18:51I mean, how important was that for you?
18:56Nah, to be honest, yeah, I went for something on the penalty.
18:59You know, if it goes in, I'm a genius.
19:01If it doesn't, you know, everyone's angry.
19:04But, you know, it can happen in the game, you can miss a penalty.
19:07But, I was very confident that I was going to score tonight.
19:10I really believed.
19:11So, I was calm.
19:13And I think you could see that in the way I played.
19:15So, yeah.
19:16Happily that I did do it in the second half and the chip worked in the second half instead, I guess.
19:21Talk us through that little dink there, Mikael, please.
19:27Yeah, so, obviously, I made the run, Mikael's family, but I saw Courtois coming really quick and it was the best solution I felt in that moment and it worked.
19:36Wow.
19:37But, Kyle, how hard has it been for you this season, sort of, being out for such a long time and feeling like the club and the team sort of need you and waiting for you to get back?
19:47It must be almost a nice feeling because it feels like, you know, you're such an important player for the team.
19:52But how frustrating was it watching?
19:57Yeah, it was tough at times, but at the same time, I kind of accepted it.
20:01I knew which games I would be back for.
20:04So, when you accept that, you're more calm and this was one of the games that I was really preparing myself for.
20:10So, yeah, it was big motivation for me in my rehab and I'm happy that I've come back for this game.
20:15I've made my mark and we're into the semi-finals now.
20:21PSG is up next in the next round, obviously, semi-finals.
20:25I believe it's Tuesday.
20:26Is that right?
20:27Tuesday, Arsenal at home in the first leg against PSG.
20:30It gives you a tough second leg away from home.
20:34How will you make that work for you?
20:37How do you make the advantage at home work in the first leg?
20:43Just do something similar to what we've done in this tie.
20:46That would be nice for us, but we know PSG are our top team.
20:49They've improved a lot since we last played them.
20:51So, it will be a very good match and I'm looking forward to it, to be fair.
20:55Does it change how you guys kind of feel as a team?
20:59Obviously, we talk about often in football like a marquee moment where a team really comes of age.
21:04Does this result against Real Madrid feel like that for you guys?
21:07I don't really know. I feel like we have respect now.
21:16We could see that in the way they prepared for this game.
21:19So, we know that we're respected in Europe, but we feel like tonight is another big step.
21:24And we need to keep taking big steps, you know, so that we can try and win something.
21:29That's the mentality we have.
21:31Yes, sir. Thierry, I'm sure you're very proud of Bukayo tonight.
21:34Very proud of him, especially the way he defended Bukayo.
21:38I wanted to talk about, I'm sure you remember the play and I've said it so many times,
21:42a lot of times people praise at back four.
21:44But you and Martinelli, the way you defend on the wingers and the way you come back
21:49and you did it at one point, you sprinted back to help Timber when actually you didn't have to.
21:55Because you had nobody and you stopped the ball in the box and you cheered yourself alone.
22:00So, for that, for me, forget the penalty, forget the goal, which, by the way, outstanding.
22:05And I know the feeling of scoring there.
22:07But, it's what you do off the ball that impresses me the most.
22:11It's just outstanding what you do.
22:13Not only you, Martinelli also.
22:15So, only for that, you know, you can try to chip the ball next time again.
22:21Well done.
22:25Bukayo, I'll try again one day, one day.
22:27As we let you go, can we just show you very quickly an image that, I believe it's the Premier League account has posted.
22:33Basically, identical celebrations, both at the Bernabeu, you and Thierry.
22:38Very cool.
22:39Cool moment. Was that what you were thinking of when you did it?
22:41Yes.
22:44To be fair, not really, you know.
22:48I just wanted to have my own moment.
22:50But, of course, Thierry, he's done the same here.
22:53So, it's nice that we can both share this picture.
22:55And, yeah, it's nice.
22:57Bukayo, are you going to FaceTime Thierry later on?
22:59We can have a debrief about the game, what went well, what do you know?
23:03Not so good.
23:07I spoke to him this morning already, but if he wants to speak again later,
23:10I'm going to be up.
23:11I'm not going to sleep tonight, if I'm honest.
23:12Let's be real.
23:14Well, I hope you enjoy the night.
23:15Thank you very much for your time.
23:16We're very grateful to you.
23:17Good luck Bukayo, well done.
23:18Congrats.
23:19Brilliant.
23:25Okay, so we do still have some analysis from that game to get through.
23:27Let's show you some of the rest of the highlights from that game.
23:29So, Vinny Jr. with the equaliser after Bukayo Saka scored that first goal for Arsenal.
23:34Here we go.
23:35Anybody?
23:36Yeah.
23:37When it happened and we saw it, I was like, I was coming back from the toilet.
23:40But why Rea wants to play out there?
23:45I would not know.
23:46Of course, Saliba should do a lot better there.
23:49But manage the game, you're 4-0 up.
23:51You can see that Real Madrid are going to press.
23:54Just take your time with it.
23:56But Saliba has got to do better as well.
23:58Normally he's so good on the ball.
23:59We talk about scanning as a huge part of the game.
24:02Normally we talk about it in terms of attacking players.
24:04But he doesn't look over his right shoulder and check what's there.
24:08So, you have to give credit to Vinicius Jr. as well.
24:13Yeah, and then you know it was going to happen.
24:15Real Madrid was going to...
24:17When you see Rudiger playing as a number nine, laying the ball off,
24:21you already know that if you go on the counter,
24:23you know on the next one he's going to be good.
24:26But Hendrik comes very close here to score.
24:30Big news though for Real Madrid.
24:31Mbappe come off with that injury.
24:33It didn't look good at all.
24:34And in the end, brought on Hendrik.
24:36And it just wasn't enough for Real Madrid on the night.
24:39You'd have to have real vision and insight though
24:41to have picked out that Martinelli...
24:42Oh, of course.
24:43I mean, it was always going to happen.
24:45Real Madrid were going to be chasing the game.
24:47The game was going to open up.
24:48On the counter-attack, Martinelli slops it at home.
24:51Another versus from there in them.
24:53Yeah, it was excellent.
24:54I thought he made a really good point, Thierry.
24:56But sometimes they've been saying,
24:58Arsenal need a number nine, number nine.
24:59When you've got runners like Saka and Martinelli in certain games,
25:03it works and the pass was exquisite and the finish to match.
25:06What a night for us.
25:07I don't think it's no coincidence that the fellow on my left
25:11has picked up Martinelli this week and Devin Rice last week
25:14as his managerial career is basically just moving to new heights, isn't it?
25:19Blossoming.
25:20He's the only manager in the room.
25:22He's top of the league.
25:24Top of the league? Yes! Top of the league in ball, isn't it?
25:27You've been... No, carry on, sorry.
25:29No, no, that's all I'm saying.
25:30OK.
25:31I was going to say you've been picking at your teeth with a toothpick
25:33there for the last 20 minutes or so.
25:35Do you think you'll be done with that by the time David Beckett comes on
25:37or you'll still be going?
25:38No, I'll be all right. Bex will be fine with that.
25:40Bex!
25:41And he's picking his teeth for real.
25:42He was my England captain.
25:44Normally you put your hand...
25:45What was it? Did you have steak?
25:46What was it?
25:47I've got a big hole at the back of my tooth and it's a wisdom one
25:51so they said there's no point doing all the things to get it out.
25:54You might as well just have to get it out three times a day after your meal, so...
25:57Lovely.
25:58That's something for us to look forward to for the rest of this season.
26:01Bit of supper.
26:02Oh, dear.
26:05Goodness me.
26:06So then, I think it's fair to say you can never have enough flair
26:09style, A-list aura on this show, can you?
26:11And after the break, live from Miami, we're going to be joined by...
26:14Yes!
26:15Yes!
26:16Yes!
26:17One more!
26:18Yes!
26:19David Beckham is coming up.
26:20We'll be back in just a second.
26:21My captain.
26:22My captain.
26:23My skin.
26:25This is Beckham territory.
26:26Oh!
26:27That is breathtaking.
26:28It's another for the collection for David Beckham.
26:31That was sheer quality.
26:34And David Beckham!
26:36Beckham!
26:37Absolutely brilliant.
26:38The magic wand of Beckham again.
26:40Could not have been more sweetly struck.
26:43Magnificent from David Beckham.
26:47Oh, it's so sharp!
26:49Can you believe it?
26:51Yes!
27:07Mr. David.
27:09No!
27:10He can't hear it!
27:12Ooh!
27:14So this is the DB sticky stuff smells delightful. It looks good. What a guy. Wow, yes, and this time
27:35we knew he was coming. It wasn't a surprise. We've been expecting you this time. You really are on zoom.
27:39Welcome to the show. Great show tonight, by the way. Great show. You've been watching.
27:49You're back home in Miami, aren't you? I'm in Miami. I've got a little bit of work here
27:54for the last couple of weeks and I watched the game here, obviously with two Arsenal fans,
27:59unfortunately. So it was quite interesting. And yeah, it was it was a great game. Great game.
28:05Yeah. Did you actually think that Real Madrid were going to pull it off tonight coming into it?
28:11I think I think a lot of people actually expected a little bit of a, you know, a comeback. You know,
28:17it's what they were all saying in Madrid, you know, the day of the game and the lead up to it. But in all
28:23honesty, you know, the two games, Arsenal deserved it. You know, I think that it was the complete
28:28performance from both, uh, from, from, you know, from, from Arsenal, you know, great individual
28:35performances, great team performance. And then obviously, you know, uh, a great, a great kind of
28:42management by, by Mikel. So, you know, they deserve, deserved it, but, you know, I was expecting a little
28:48bit more, uh, a little bit more of a comeback today, but just wasn't meant to be. They managed the game so
28:54well and, you know, great performances from all defense. And then obviously with, with Declan and,
29:00and Bakaya, you know, and I think it was exceptional performance away from home and home.
29:06David, you just said your son and his friend there, Arsenal supporters, but we know
29:10you're a big Manchester United man, but would you like to see Arsenal win the Champions League?
29:14Oh my God, that's a terrible question. Um, you know what? I actually think that it's great to see,
29:25you know, uh, an English team in the semis. Um, you know, obviously if they go on and obviously beat
29:31PSG and get to the final, I think it'd be a special thing for, for them as a club, for Mikel as a manager,
29:37you know, and for the team and the performances that they've put in in the Champions League this year.
29:42Um, but obviously I know my son's watching, so I hope they do well in the Champions League,
29:47but they're coming up against PSG. So, you know, I know who I'll be supporting, uh, on the night,
29:53but, you know, we always want English teams to do well. It's such a special competition. And,
29:57you know, we saw last night with Villa, you know, they've been on an incredible run,
30:02you know, I, you know, I think that their performances has been incredible. And so,
30:07you know, to see Prince William and, and, and George there last night celebrating his father and
30:13son, you know, a great performance from them on the night, you know, you always want English teams
30:19to do well. So you'd be supporting PSG like me. Thanks. Thank you. David, can I ask where you are,
30:26David? Where are you in the world today? I'm actually in Miami, actually in Miami at the moment.
30:33Well, no, I've got Wi-Fi in Miami. CBS not paid enough. Sorry? No, no, good Wi-Fi in Miami.
30:39Well, Wi-Fi actually, we, do you know what? We, we actually lost Wi-Fi about 10 minutes ago,
30:44but we got it back. Yeah. I mean, I'm in a new house and, uh, Wi-Fi is a bit sketchy, apparently.
30:50Ah, where have you moved to the beach? I need to update my plan.
30:53Wow, we're close to the, we're close to the beach. What are you saying? Can Big Big,
30:58you promised me wine last time, David. I want to invite to Miami. I want to hang with the real stars.
31:05Don't worry. Don't worry, you know, I'm there for, I'm there for the semis,
31:10so I'll be bringing wine and, you know, a couple of good mates. And don't forget the sticky stuff.
31:15Oh, God. Have you, have you already run out of the sticky stuff? Don't worry, there's plenty of that.
31:21So the, uh, the promise for wine was made to you when we actually did a rehearsal for the new show
31:29that David's got coming up with CBS, correct? Correct. Yes, which we all got to take part in.
31:34Uh, all, sorry, I say all of us. It was Thierry, Micah, myself, David. You weren't available that day.
31:40I wasn't available. He was my England captain. We know each, I know him better than any of you,
31:44so I don't need to do no, you know, meeting and greeting. We'll just meet on the real thing.
31:47You also just don't need rehearsal, do you? Won't we, Dave?
31:50Well, he said Dave. Yeah, yeah, I agree. I agree.
31:54But we had a good time rehearsing this. I enjoyed it. We had some good conversations.
31:58Yeah. We lived a few good kind of rivalry moments between Arsenal, United, Thierry, David.
32:04Yeah. Well, you know what? Micah, you didn't like it?
32:08It looked so easy. And for me personally, you know, it was just, I was quite nervous about the
32:14rehearsal and about how it was going to go, because like I said, you guys make it look so easy.
32:19But you all made me feel so comfortable. And I think we had a great time.
32:22Well, wait till you have the wine. It'll all be easy. It'll all be comfortable, won't it?
32:26Well, there you go. Can we have wine?
32:27There'll be wine, you know, good conversation, so it'll be good.
32:31And who's going to be hosting it?
32:33A bit of cheese, a bit of ham.
32:35Who's going to be hosting it?
32:36Is it going to be Emmy-nominated Katie Scott, as she was called before?
32:40That's my new name.
32:42Are you involved, Katie? Are you with us?
32:44Absolutely. Congratulations on the nomination.
32:46Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Yes, I am. Are you calling me Katie too now?
32:50Well deserved.
32:51Well deserved.
32:51Brilliant. Thank you. I appreciate you. Yes, I'm very excited.
32:54Are you hosting?
32:54I am hosting.
32:55Okay. So you'd rather be with David and friends than with the people that you've been with for so long?
33:01Question from Jamie. I didn't say that. Do you know what the great thing is and the blessing is
33:05I get to be with all of you. I get to do both things. That's how lucky I am.
33:09Wow. So yes, I feel very privileged. No double pay. No. That's one to be discussed with Pete offline.
33:15Doing it for the love of the show, the love of the game, you know.
33:19David, I have a question for you. I'm the A-list guest.
33:23Can you hear me?
33:25Yeah, I can hear you. Yes. So I want to talk about Inter-Miami. I know you're in the semi-final
33:30against Vancouver. The only MLS team that won it is Seattle. Yeah.
33:34How important it is for you to make sure that you're going to be the second MLS team to ever win it?
33:38Because we all know that usually the Mexican team wins that competition.
33:43Yeah. You know, Thierry, how obviously difficult this competition is. And obviously, you know,
33:48we came up against a good team against LAFC in the last round, you know, obviously losing there.
33:53And then, you know, it's a spectacular game in Miami. And obviously, you know,
33:59the big stars turned up and we end up going through. So, you know, to face Vancouver in the
34:04next round in the semis, it's going to be a tough game because they're in good form. But,
34:09you know, any club wants to win this competition because, you know, you want to be recognized in
34:14this competition. And there's some tough games and tough teams. So, you know, we're excited about
34:20being in the semi. But, you know, I think like you said tonight as well, you know, I think,
34:25you know, Arsenal have done well. They've beat Real Madrid. They've got through to the semis,
34:30but now they're coming up against PSG and they're not in the final yet. So you've got another big
34:35team to play against. And it's the same for us over here. You know, obviously, we're going to come
34:39up against a good team in Vancouver, but, you know, fingers crossed, we can we can get to the final and
34:45then it's all about winning it. So just to remind everybody, the reason that you're here with us again
34:51is that you're promoting your new show, which is coming up in conjunction with Paramount Plus,
34:55Beckham & Friends. It's a live show. It's a watch along of the semifinals. The second legs,
34:59you're doing it for the second legs and for the final. So the two second leg shows,
35:03you're going to do live from here from the studio in London. You're flying all your friends in for it.
35:07And then you'll get them out to Munich for the final. We can't reveal any names yet,
35:12but they're all David's friends. So they're all very special people, A-list only. Yes.
35:17Will Jamie make the invite? We don't know. Yes. We're tuned in to find out. But we're super
35:23excited to be part of that with you and to have you as part of the CBS family. And we're looking
35:27forward to those shows. I know they're going to be fun. Yeah. Can't wait. Hopefully I get picked.
35:31Me too. I'm really looking forward to it. Yes, sir. I'm really looking forward to it. Cara,
35:34of course you'll get picked. Ah, David, yes. You've made me all feel so welcome. And like I said,
35:43you all make it look so easy. And trust me, it's not so easy. So thank you for the warm welcome.
35:48And I'm actually really looking forward to turning up with a few mates, a few glasses of wine and
35:54watch the game and great conversation. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you go, David,
35:58you said Cara's getting it. What about Big Meeks, man? Is Big Meeks being picked?
36:02You're all invited. Oh. Oh. You're all invited. Oh. Oh.
36:06I thought we had a right back. I thought Gary Neville would be one of the A-listers.
36:14No comment. David, thank you so much for joining us from over there in the States.
36:19We appreciate it. We'll see you in two weeks' time. We look forward to it.
36:22You're welcome. Thank you. And thanks for keeping us all entertained over there. It's amazing.
36:26Thank you. Thank you, David. See you, David, too.
36:29Bye-bye. Round of applause. Yes.
36:32Yes. Yes. Wow.
36:34Invite him, A-listers, Big Meeks, glass of wine, cheese.
36:39Do you feel like you squeezed it out of him, though?
36:41Yeah. He didn't want to invite me to do it, but I'm going anyway.
36:45You're playing for both seats. You're walking in. I'm walking in.
36:50OK. Any further plans with the show? We're going to go to a break.
36:53Are we? That's what we're going to do. We'll reset.
36:54What we're going to do when we come back?
36:55We'll talk about a few things. I imagine we might talk about the semifinals,
36:58amongst other things. Are we going to go out to Guillaume or Peter?
37:00I haven't forgot about them. I'm on top of everything. Just relax.
37:05All right. Go to a break. We'll come back.
37:06We've got to leave. I've got to leave in eight minutes.
37:08Don't we all, Micah?
37:12See you in a second, everybody.
37:13Welcome back, everybody. So good to have you still with us.
37:31So Arsenal knocked out Real Madrid at the Bernabeu tonight.
37:34Huge result for them in the Champions League.
37:36And Thierry's been looking at how well they did things defensively tonight. Thierry?
37:39Yeah, they did. And when you play Arsenal and whenever they're low, they always do the same
37:45thing. Wingers will defend the players that is wide, as you're going to see here. But one thing that
37:50Real Madrid didn't do well at the beginning of the game, as you're going to see, and you can
37:54roll it now, you can already see Martinelli facing Lucas Vazquez. But if you pose in and around here,
38:00as you can see here, that's your winger. Bukayo Saka is already there. But you can't be.
38:05You have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven players looking at the block. What are you going to
38:11do? You need to put people in between the lines to make sure that they can retreat. They did it a
38:16bit more after that. But you can't carry on to play like this. Roll it. You will see you can go around
38:20the block and do whatever you want. Bukayo Saka is always going to help. It's him that's going to go
38:26here on Vinicius Junior. And your back four, your back four barely moves. Pose again. Your back four
38:37is always here. And it's, it might sound crazy what I'm going to say, but I mean, you still can play
38:43now. You could, you would play now. If your winger always go out to play and defend on the wide man,
38:50your back four is always solid inside. And they are always well positioned. And again, the Madrid
38:59players are too much on outside. People don't go between the lines too much. It becomes really easy
39:04for Arsenal to defend. Very easy. You have to put the ball in the box or try to do something else. And
39:09that's the one I want to talk about. This is, you see, it's very difficult, but you're going to see
39:14him. This is Bukayo Saka. Okay. The game is, I'm not saying it's almost won, but they were,
39:22they were kind of okay. He doesn't have to come back and you'll see it even more,
39:26but that's not the spirit of the team. Roll it. He doesn't have to come back. Look at him. Okay.
39:32Now, if you pose, he doesn't have to come back. He can pass it on and maybe stop here
39:38and pass it on, but he doesn't. This is why Arsenal are very difficult to beat when they play away from
39:44home and they are low because that's the one I was talking to him about at the end of the game.
39:49Look at where he is. And at that particular moment, pose. Yes. Because he came back,
39:53he could stay in. That ball is stopped and he's there. And if you see it after when you roll it,
39:59this is what I say when it's always them defending wide. He didn't have to come back. He's going to clear
40:04that ball. He's going to win it. And you see, he will have a little celebration that we won't see.
40:09But that's why and that's how you can defend against Real Madrid. We've seen it when they did it
40:14against Man City or so. They were down to 10 men, but they are very difficult to break when they do
40:19that. So do you think PSG is going to be more difficult for Arsenal? Yes, I'll tell you why.
40:23Because you saw on one of the clip, Iron Wide, he was Vinicius Junior. But on the right hand side,
40:28he was Lucas Vazquez. So when Martinelli was going to face Lucas Vazquez,
40:32I mean, you stay in front of him, he's not going to beat you. Against Paris Saint-Germain,
40:36it will be Dembele. Is it still Martinelli going to defend Dembele? Is it still Bukayo Saka? And he can,
40:43as he's shown, to defend Baraj Kelya or Desiree Dewey or inside whoever's going to play.
40:49It's going to be very interesting. So you had him here. So against PSG,
40:55would you expect Luis Skelly to come a little bit further? Because this one-on-one battle here
40:59against Martinelli is going to be... What's difficult with Paris Saint-Germain,
41:03as we've seen it, that's going to be Hakimi inside. Yeah. That's Dembele and they switch
41:09sometimes. And Hakimi is also fast. Hakimi has quality to beat you. No disrespect to Lucas Vazquez,
41:15it's not the same thing. So they always bully you here, bully you there and bully you, but really high.
41:19With people inside though, as you mentioned, Jamie, yesterday, that was brilliant. With Vitinha and
41:25Neves, Neves will go there. So that will make you retreat. They find space, they're better.
41:32I think for me on the ball, that Real Madrid side. And as I mentioned, I thought that Arsenal could
41:40do something against Real Madrid because of the balance, the offensive balance and how they play.
41:45I didn't think that Real Madrid side this year, and we mentioned it, was as strong as the year before.
41:51Psychologically, how important do you think it is, the fact that Arsenal have already beaten PSG this season?
41:59For me, that Paris Saint-Germain side was growing. Yeah.
42:02You remember Desiree Dewey? He looked like a youth team player when he played Arsenal.
42:07He didn't look like the player that he can be. Dembele wasn't what he was. I think,
42:10I don't even know, I'm not too sure who started... Dembele didn't play.
42:14That's what I'm saying. So, I don't know, he was trying to build his team, he was trying to make,
42:19to make, to make, to make something out of the game. And that game was men versus boys.
42:23Yeah, I don't know if you remember the game. They were never in the game.
42:26That's not the same Paris Saint-Germain team that we've seen now.
42:29That's a very, very, very good team. We've seen what they've done against Liverpool.
42:34They suffered for 20, 25 minutes against Villa. They still managed to go through.
42:39I think it will be a different game. Possible, but a different game.
42:42Well, I'd love to stay and chat. Kate, back to you. We're all over time.
42:45No more seconds. Let's go. Come on, let's go.
42:47I know you're very concerned about whether we'd see Peter Schmeichel again. I can tell you we will.
42:50He's speaking to, or has spoken to, Thomas Muller. No, you can't come back to the desk.
42:54Come on, we've got to go.
42:55Not gone, gone. The show's still going on.
42:57Come on, it's over time.
42:57Peter Schmeichel with Thomas Muller. Could it be his last interview post of Champions League game?
43:01It certainly will be his last interview post of Champions League game.
43:03Come on, that's just about it.
43:05We're going to hear from them in a few. Stay with us. They'll be back. Don't worry.
43:15Well, the Champions League semi-finals are set and tomorrow it's the turn of the Europa League.
43:31Lazio need to overturn a two-goal deficit against Bordeaux-Glimp, but it's all square in the other games
43:37between Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham, Athletic Club and Rangers and Manchester United and Lyon.
43:43Of course, you can watch every single game live on Paramount Plus, or if you prefer, as always,
43:47you can join Nico Cantor for the Golasso show. Coverage of that begins on Paramount Plus
43:52and on the Golasso Network at 2 p.m. Eastern. We'll be back in just a second with more.
43:56The Champions League
44:00The Champions League
44:04The Champions League
44:08Hey everybody. Well, Bayern Munich went out of the Champions League tonight to Inter Milan and Peter Schmeichel was at the game for us.
44:18We've obviously spoken to Bayern's captain tonight, Thomas Muller. Here you go.
44:22So you announced that you're leaving Bayern, which we are. A lot of people are very, very sad about that.
44:27Yeah.
44:28Do you have any idea where we're going to see you play?
44:31Yeah, I think in the next one, two, three months my contract is until the end of July, until the end of the Club World Cup.
44:40So I have time. I have time to find the right mindset, to check some ideas and then we will see.
44:49Is there a chance that we can do this interview next year in the Champions League? We can do it again?
44:55The chances are everywhere. I don't know.
45:00You don't know?
45:01I don't know yet.
45:01Or you don't want to say?
45:03No, I don't know yet. I was just focused on playing football today and the last ten days.
45:08I think the time will come in June when I have some weeks off, one or two weeks off.
45:15And then you will find your way.
45:16Yes.
45:16And now you've got to focus on finishing the job.
45:19The problem in this job is in two days we have an away game in Heidenheim.
45:24So, yeah.
45:26It's not a problem. It's a challenge.
45:28Yeah, it's a challenge.
45:29Thank you. Thank you very much.
45:30I hope you finish your business.
45:31Thank you very much for talking to us here.
45:38It's a nice moment, huh?
45:39Peace is brilliant to them interviewers. He's good on the road.
45:42Yes, very good to them.
45:42Really good.
45:43And Thomas Muller, a classy player on and off the pitch as well.
45:46Yeah, brilliant player.
45:47You can obviously see, even in that interview, he's still sort of a little pumped up and
45:51talking about when his contract's going to finish.
45:53So, he's determined to go out with a bang in terms of, you know, this Club World Cup.
45:56That's, you know, the new format, first time it's been done.
45:59So, for him to go out and win that and then go and find some pastures new.
46:03It'll be really interesting to see where he goes.
46:05Because he's one, I think that's his only club.
46:07And there's very few of us who are one club men.
46:12Special breed.
46:12Yes.
46:13And I think sometimes, I always wanted to do that.
46:16And I think you can see his passion that he just, he doesn't really want to play for anyone else.
46:20So, he's probably got a big decision to make whether he maybe retires or he does go and play for somebody else.
46:25Was Peter pitching him for Man United then?
46:27He'd definitely get a game for Man United, wouldn't he?
46:29Thomas Muller.
46:30For sure.
46:31Yeah, 100% he'd get a game for them.
46:34Would you, I'd like to see him, he's the kind of player as well, like Jamie said,
46:37I'd like to see him have a cool moment to say goodbye to Bayern Munich.
46:41Because it's been such a special relationship in such a long term.
46:44Yeah, I mean.
46:45You'd enjoy to see that for him.
46:46He's a legend of the game, simple as that.
46:48We've put his appearances before the game as well.
46:51It's not nice to send off who he wants, but that's football, isn't it?
46:54It's tough sometimes.
46:55It doesn't always finish how you want, but there's no doubt.
46:58It's top class.
46:59Is there any chance he could join CBS if he didn't find a club?
47:02Well, whose place he's taken?
47:04That's not for me to decide, but I mean, I'm just putting it out there.
47:06Last time I didn't do this show, the ratings went down.
47:09It did?
47:09Yeah.
47:10I love the numbers.
47:11Was it you took your place?
47:13Er, I think it was Dempsey.
47:15Well, that's why.
47:16Anyway.
47:20All right, we've got 75.
47:22We're looking forward to them.
47:26Two weeks off, and then we're back with the semis, too.
47:28Great semis coming up for you as well.
47:29It's going to be a lot of fun.
47:30And then the second next, of course...
47:31Are we in the studio?
47:32Are we on our travels?
47:32Are we doing anything special?
47:33We don't know.
47:34We're waiting to find out.
47:35We're hoping we might go to the Camp Nou.
47:36How about all that?
47:37Oh, yes.
47:39Camp Nou?
47:39No, sir.
47:40No.
47:41What is it, Titi?
47:43What did she say?
47:44That we're going to go to the Camp Nou?
47:46Is it the new Camp or the Camp?
47:47It's not even there.
47:49Oh, sorry.
47:50This is what happens when she doesn't have the autocue.
47:54You know the people who picked the Emmys?
47:56You've got to understand this.
47:57None of you would have made that mistake.
47:59You would never have made that mistake.
48:00No.
48:01Yeah.
48:01Can you take us away?
48:02Can we get somebody in the...
48:03Can I just do this autocue and maybe next year I'll be up for an Emmy?
48:07Go ahead.
48:08Go ahead, do the autocue to break.
48:09Go ahead.
48:09Goodbye.
48:10Final shot and goodbye.
48:11Final shot and goodbye.
48:15That's it.
48:16Good night, everybody.
48:16Have a good one.
48:19What a match day this was.
48:21Have we finished?
48:21What are we waiting for here?
48:23Oh, I thought we had said goodbye.
48:24All right.
48:25Goodbye, everybody.
48:26Officially.
48:26Goodbye.
