Get out in nature with me as I explore Allerton Towers

00:00It might just be the perfect day to get out and explore one of our many green spaces here in

00:06Liverpool. Today I'm taking a stroll around Allerton Towers which is a beautiful 35 acre park

00:13situated in the south of the city. This site used to be home to shipping owners and merchants of

00:18Liverpool during the heyday of Port Commerce. Originally part of Allerton Manor the estate

00:24was purchased by Hardman Earl. The mansion house was based on a design by Harvey Lonsdale Elms,

00:32architect of St George's Hall, a classic Italianate design which had a tower hence the name providing

00:40views across the surrounding countryside which was once here. The estate was acquired by Liverpool

00:46Council in 1924 and the landscape gardens were opened up to the public as Allerton Tower Park in 1924.

00:541927. However due to severe damage the tower itself had become seriously affected by dry rot and it

01:02was demolished in 1937. Today visitors to Allerton Towers can explore several remaining historical

01:09structures including the lodge, stables, laundry block and a portion of the orange tree all of which

01:16are grade 2 listed. The park also boasts a partially walled garden providing seasonal interest and a

01:23glimpse into its storied past. How cool a willow tree. Now I don't know much about nature trees or anything

01:31like that but I do know my Disney and it reminds me of the film Pocahontas with the grandmother willow.

01:37It's just nice though isn't it to be out in nature. It can be really relaxing listening to the birdsong

01:44and soaking up some much needed vitamin D. For younger visitors there is a small play area situated near the

01:54Menlove Avenue entrance. It's also just across the way from Allerton Golf Course which is a local gem of

02:01well-trodden fairways but if like me you're not the golfing kind Allerton Manor does boast a plethora of

02:08food and drink options. It's also become a pretty popular wedding venue too. Because it is so quiet

02:13here I've only seen a couple of people I love it when I hear a little rustle in the bush and I think

02:17what could that be? Is it a little bird? Is it a squirrel? Is it a rat? I haven't seen any rats I have

02:23seen a few squirrels I haven't managed to capture any on camera for you. These historic ruins and partially

02:28walled gardens can be explored in just under an hour making it perfect if you're short on time.

02:34Allerton Towers is open to the public year-round offering a peaceful retreat from the busier parks

02:40of the city. It's an ideal spot for leisurely walks family outings and exploring historical remnants

02:46amidst natural beauty. While the park doesn't feature facilities like a cafe or public toilets

02:53its proximity to Walton Village ensures that visitors have access to local amenities.
