Wolves and Vitor Pereira update ahead of summer window

00:00Matheus Cunha has come out and himself addressed the sort of comments made in an interview

00:22saying that he wants to fight for titles. I think it was sort of dragged out of proportion

00:26by a few news outlets saying he's completely done, etc. It was made to look as if he was

00:32that and then he sort of came out and downplayed it a little bit. He obviously wants to take

00:37the next step in his career. He's gone away with international duty and scored for Brazil.

00:43When the last player who played for Wolves has scored for Brazil, the great nation they

00:48are is quite unbelievable really. But he's clearly a player who throughout the season

00:53and the back end of last season as well, has been a level above most of the rest in

00:58the group. I think he knows that. I think Wolves fans know that. I think Wolves players

01:03know that as well. He's been unbelievable. It's a bit of a difficult situation when they

01:10have to probably part ways with him this summer. It's quite an awkward one when you have him

01:16coming out and saying he wants to challenge for titles and then Wolves are obviously focused

01:20on avoiding the drop. So there's a big difference there. Fosun need to make sure that it's another

01:25player who, yes, they've taken him to the very top, the likes of Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto,

01:31the next step is actually replacing him. I think it's an inevitability sadly for Wolves

01:37fans that he will be leaving this summer. Whether it's taken out of proportion or not

01:41in that interview with The Guardian, he's going to go, isn't he? There's a release clause for

01:46a reason. I think the reason he signed that new contract in January was just to try and

01:51one for Wolves fans to show that he was committed until the end of the campaign.

01:55Another one just to reward him for his fine form and give him a better pay rise until

02:00the end of that season to ensure that the release clause is of a worthy value. It's

02:04going to be a record sale for Wolves when he does eventually go. Acuna, he's got so much respect for

02:09the football club as well, for the supporters. He wants to make sure he leaves it on good terms.

02:14He didn't want to leave them in the lurch in the relegation battle. He wants to make sure he can

02:17make his impact towards the end of the season. Of course, then getting sent off against Bournemouth,

02:22being suspended for four matches, not ideal in that situation, but he still did score some

02:27crucial goals after his contract. I think it's crucial that he did stay on until the end of the

02:32season. In the summer though, I think it is a different story. Whether he's on about wanting

02:36to win titles with Wolves or not, he's probably not going to do it at the football club. Let's

02:41be realistic here, at least in the next couple of years. He should be moving on to a bigger club

02:45as much as that may pain Wolves fans. Whether it goes to the Premier League, the top end of

02:49the standings, or if he goes across to Europe, I think a waste to be seen, but 62 and a half million,

02:55probably good for all parties, to be honest. Wolves can use that money that they've not really

02:59had recently to go and spend it on other players. Whether Fozen allow that to happen, we know their

03:03strategy is kind of against reinvesting, but they should be doing that and hopefully they can do

03:08that because Wolves, otherwise, will probably be in another relegation battle.

03:12And yeah, obviously, Yerson Mosquera signing a contract extension as well. Quite an important

03:18signing to get him across. Hasn't played many minutes for Wolves, obviously, with that injury

03:22very early on in the season. And then obviously, Emmanuel Agbadoo comes in and he's made a real

03:27difference at the back, but it does show how important defensive signings are as much as

03:31attacking. Wolves were leaking way too many goals under Gary O'Neill and that's probably

03:38what inevitably got him the sack in the end. Yeah, that's inevitably what got Wolves so near

03:43the bottom of the standings as well. They were still scoring a fair amount of goals,

03:46not a ridiculous amount, but a decent amount nonetheless, maybe mid-table numbers. But the

03:51conceding was worse than Southampton at times, which is incredible to say, really, considering

03:56they're still only on nine points. But yeah, as you say, Mosquera, he started the first five games

04:01of the season, unfortunately had that serious knee injury away at Aston Villa, but now coming back

04:06into the fold in pre-season and then start of next, I think in that back three, especially if

04:11Vitor Pereira does stay at the football club, could work very well. As much as Matt Doherty's

04:16been a great utility player, I think having three proper centre-halves, physical players, quick

04:21players, will make such a difference in the back three of Totti, Mosquera and Agbadoo. Well, I think

04:25that's a pretty cool prospect for Wolves fans. And just finally on Wolves and Vitor Pereira now,

04:32obviously, it's quite an interesting situation because it gets to the summer again,

04:37we've mentioned Fosun, haven't really backed the last few managers. It's about time that Wolves

04:42went into the new season with the same manager that they ended the last one. I know they did

04:46obviously with Gary O'Neill, but then that was quickly to end. They want a manager who can stay

04:51in for two, three years and deliver set Premier League finishes now. They don't want to be

04:58scraping around in January, Christmas and looking for a new name and trying to sort

05:03things out in terms of the dugout. They've been bottom or near enough bottom at Christmas for the

05:09last two seasons. In terms of Vitor Pereira and his time, it's a bit uncertain whether he's going

05:16to stay or go. Do you feel he's deserved enough to be backed by Fosun this summer?

05:21I think he certainly has. Considering the position Wolves were in when he took over

05:2619th in the Premier League had only had two wins in their opening 16 games,

05:30to then go and win an extra five after that, I think is a fantastic achievement.

05:35He's kind of made the football club a better place to be in a better environment. The fans

05:39on board with him finally a bit of a connection again, talking about going to the pub,

05:43meeting some of the supporters. These little things make such a difference. And of course,

05:47with Wolves now pretty far away from the relegation zone, they look like they're going

05:50to stay in the Premier League. That was his objective. And then he can prove himself again

05:54next season to kick on with a full summer transfer window, can have a full mark on the squad. And I

06:00would back him certainly myself to go on and do better things with Wolves. But we're obviously

06:05not the ownership. They might have different ideas. And we may see a different manager appointed.

06:09Daniel De Rossi has been mentioned after leaving Roma. Maybe those comments are a little bit out

06:14of proportion, whether it was before Pereira took charge or not. It waits to be seen,

06:20but maybe an option for Wolves. But I think they should stick with Pereira. Hopefully he does.

06:24He's done enough to stay in that role. And then having that full summer transfer window,

06:27as I mentioned, could be important.
