Wolves relying on brilliance of Matheus Cunha to save their season

A star season for the Brazilian.

00:13 Forest but huge highlights to take in terms of one player being back, Mateus Cunha. How

00:18 important has he been for Wolves this season? In a season that's been up and down at moments

00:25 but in the good times he's certainly been at the forefront of them.

00:29 He's been so important. Gary O'Neill has been speaking so much about how Wolves haven't

00:33 been able to buy a striker. They tried to get one in the winter on a cheap or on a loan.

00:37 They couldn't even do that. The financial resources just weren't there to stick in line

00:41 with profit and sustainability rules. We've seen how that's impacted lots of forest in

00:45 Everton. So Wolves had to stick in line. Cunha stepped up into a striker position. He's not

00:50 full number nine really. He's more of a false nine or a winger or someone who can come in

00:54 from wide. He's not always been that figure. He's not a physical presence. But the way

00:59 he uses his body, he backs into defenders. He turns off the ball. He plays one twos.

01:04 He dribbles the players. That goal against Nottingham Forest, a prime example. Just taking

01:08 on players, giving it a go. Then he backs into the defender. Then he cuts inside. Then

01:12 he puts in the corner. He's not going to repeat that every single week but it shows the talent

01:16 is there. The determination is there. And the determination as well to get back from

01:19 his injury. He was given a 12-week injury recovery process. He did it in six. It shows

01:25 how much determination that man has got. These have been so crucial. Just from that aspect

01:30 has been crucial but also 11 goals, six assists in the Premier League. It's just what Wolves

01:34 has needed. So fair play to Mateus Cunha. Just imagine Wolves with Hwang Fit as well

01:39 and Pedro Neto and Cunha all playing in the same team consistently and a striker. I think

01:44 it's a very exciting future for Wolves.

01:46 Obviously, achieving pretty much mid-table this season. How do you feel Wolves fans are

01:53 feeling around Gary O'Neill and the attention he's got for such a great job this year?

02:00 But where does it leave them in sight for next season and this big summer? Because as

02:05 you say, there could still be some restrictions.

02:08 There'll probably be some restrictions but O'Neill's been honest to say that they'll

02:12 be able to spend a bit more money, which is good. Wolves should expect at least a new

02:17 striker, probably a new midfielder as well, maybe a new defender. Probably someone in

02:21 every position. Jose Sarr's also had a lot of stick for his distribution. So we'll have

02:25 to wait and see what happens there. But I think there will be a little bit of a rebuild.

02:29 Not huge, but something. And that means that I think Wolves can maybe push on to top half

02:33 next year to secure that. This year that could happen, very much so. Europe was kind of on

02:38 the curls briefly after the wins over Tottenham and Chelsea. I think it's just building step

02:44 by step, especially with the likes of Chelsea definitely improving. Brighton are probably

02:47 going to get better again next year as well. So yeah, I think mid-table fans will be very

02:52 happy and it's good progress.
