Sunday storms to lead to storms this week

AccuWeather's Tony Laubach recaps Sunday storms in Missouri and Arkansas and looks ahead to a Wednesday to Thursday event.

00:00Well, we put the cold and cold front

00:02here in Cape Girardeau on this Monday.

00:04After a big severe weather event on Sunday,

00:07temperatures plummeted 30 to 40 degrees,

00:09certainly feeling like late March here

00:11across portions of Southeast Missouri.

00:13But different story on your Sunday as we

00:15saw pretty copious amounts of severe weather,

00:18mainly in the form of hail.

00:20Ironically enough,

00:20falling ice as we talked about the

00:23cold temperatures behind that cold front.

00:25But ahead of that,

00:26that steamy air mass gave way to

00:28storms that looked a lot like this.

00:31Really across Southeast Missouri

00:32and Northeast Arkansas,

00:33where the areas I was targeting yesterday.

00:36The storms looking rather impressive for sure,

00:38but we're lacking a lot of the low

00:40level shear that is needed to make

00:43this a more prolific tornadic producing day.

00:46Really, it was mainly large hail.

00:48That was the big threat.

00:49But again,

00:50storms really just filling the

00:52skies with some awe inspiring sights.

00:54I tracked these storms into the evening,

00:56catching them near Portageville

00:57along I-55 with one of those

00:59tornadic cells cross the interstate.

01:01No tornado with this at the time,

01:03but certainly led to a lot of stop

01:05traffic as truckers were waiting

01:07for those winds to subside before

01:09they continued back along Interstate 55.

01:10But we are getting a little bit of a

01:13breather here, at least for the next.

01:15Couple of days,

01:16temperatures are going to rebound

01:17pretty quickly as we head into

01:19the middle part of the week,

01:20and unfortunately that is going to

01:22fuel yet another big severe weather

01:24event as we get into Wednesday.

01:25I will be in the region for that

01:27as we are expecting a busy couple

01:29of days as we get into the middle

01:31and latter part of the week.
