00:07Today, our correspondent Brian Muir has the details.
00:13Today is a big day in Brazil as the first panel of Brazil's Supreme Court has reached
00:19a majority decision in its final review of evidence in the indictments of former president
00:25Jair Bolsonaro and seven of his associates, including General Walter Braga Neto, a former
00:31military dictatorship figure who served as Bolsonaro's defense minister and vice presidential
00:37running mate in 2022, and General Augusto Heleno, Bolsonaro's former intel chief, who
00:44is also notorious around the world as the former commander of Minastaw military operations
00:49during the Sitsulei massacre in Haiti.
00:53Now, what this means is the final procedural step is over.
00:58It's the culmination of three investigations that started in March 2023 and culminated
01:03with the indictments presented by the Attorney General's office on February 18th, 2025, with
01:10the recommendation to start trials against Bolsonaro and 32 of his cronies.
01:17Now the court is going to set the trial dates, and if convicted, former president Bolsonaro
01:22is looking at up to 28 years behind bars.
