00:00Posters which recently went viral urging past Vice President Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to resign
00:07as Terengganu Menteri Besar could be linked to infighting ahead of the party elections
00:12in September, an analyst said.
00:14Samsuri is viewed as a technocrat, one of two factions into which past members are divided.
00:20The other is the Ulama faction.
00:23Analyst Awang Asman Pawi said that the posters signaled escalating tension between the two
00:28camps.
00:29He said Samsuri, who has led the Terengganu state government for almost seven years, appeared
00:34to be dealing with issues that indicate dissatisfaction with his leadership.
00:39He noted the criticism Samsuri had faced over a trip abroad in 2022 when Terengganu was
00:44hit by floods and scrutiny over matters related to state land and Terengganu's economic performance.
00:51Meanwhile, Mazlan Ali of University Technology Malaysia said he did not see the posters as
00:56evidence of a rift between past leaders in Terengganu and the state administration.
01:02Samsuri, who has been a past vice president since 2019, said he did not consider himself
01:07qualified to take over the party's top post following speculation that the top two posts
01:12might be contested for the first time in 10 years.
