00:28a fierce critic of Senator Joe McCarthy and the Red Scare of the 1950s, his reporting

00:33helped bring down McCarthy.

00:35Although McCarthy would try to pose things, he'd show up with a blank piece of paper and

00:38say, I've got a list of names, okay.

00:40So that was his version of fake news.

00:44We now are at a place where we've found that it's harder and harder and harder to discern

00:51If you speak out against the president, you're basically getting shut down and the media
