00:00As part of Freedom of Navigation,
00:03a surveillance flight was conducted by the U.S. Navy
00:07to the West Philippine Sea.
00:09From the air,
00:11the Philippine ships were seen being followed by the Chinese ships.
00:16The American plane was also not saved
00:19in the China's radio challenge.
00:22Chino Gaston was the target.
00:25P-8 Poseidon
00:28The P-8 Poseidon aircraft was launched by the U.S. Navy
00:31along with the media members
00:33in Bajo de Masinloc.
00:35The P-8 Poseidon is a type of military aircraft
00:38that does not have weapons
00:40and its main mission is to gather information
00:42in the sea, land, or ocean.
00:45The P-8 was seen by the U.S. Navy several times
00:48during the resupply mission in Ayungin
00:51and when the Chinese use their war water cannons
00:54against the Philippine Coast Guard and BFAR ships.
00:58From the air,
01:00the U.S. Navy saw and monitored
01:02the ships of the China Coast Guard,
01:04the warships of the Chinese Navy
01:06that followed the ships of the BFAR and the Philippine Coast Guard
01:09in their mission of
01:11delivering crude oil and supplies
01:13to the Philippine fishermen in Bahura.
01:15But because of the classified images and videos
01:17that the aircraft gets,
01:19it is strictly prohibited for the media to capture it.
01:23Whether it's our ships or our aircraft,
01:26it's nearly daily, right?
01:28So, wherever international airspaces
01:32or international waters,
01:34we intend to fly consistently
01:37consistently through those areas
01:39to help support that free and open Indo-Pacific.
01:41While flying near Bajo de Masinloc,
01:44the crew of the P-8 Poseidon
01:46conducted and monitored
01:48the P-8 Poseidon,
01:50which you can see here on our left,
01:52and they used the cameras
01:54and other surveillance equipment
01:56that was brought by the aircraft.
01:58The Chinese Air Force
02:00did a radio challenge several times
02:02to the P-8 Poseidon,
02:04but the U.S. Navy got used to it.
02:06The Chinese Air Force also heard
02:08the radio challenge
02:10to a BFAR aircraft.
02:12So, I would say there's never any apprehensiveness
02:14we go out there and we execute
02:16our mission effectively,
02:18and we do our best to maintain the freedom
02:20and the security of the international waterways
02:22and the airspace.
02:24One of the crew of the airplane,
02:26Ken Garandang, is a Filipino
02:28from Olongapo City.
02:30There are a couple of Chinese military ships
02:32out there, some Chinese Coast Guard ships
02:34out there, and then obviously
02:36you see some of the Filipino
02:38ships out there as well.
02:40We're right off the coast of Scarborough Shoal.
02:42Aside from radar and camera,
02:44the airplane also has the ability
02:46to drop sonar buoy
02:48to detect submarines
02:50under the sea.
