00:00An ecstatic crowd welcomed Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

00:07The de facto president arrived in the eastern region of Al Jazeera after winning a major

00:12battle in Khartoum.

00:14We are proud in this blessed month that our forces advanced in a steady march to continue

00:19the liberation of Sudan.

00:21We will not step back, nor will we retreat.

00:23We will continue until the end.

00:28The Sudanese army said it had seized full control of the presidential palace on Friday,

00:34a major symbolic victory for the military after almost two years of fighting with the

00:39rapid support forces.

00:41RSF, however, claimed it still had soldiers in Khartoum, adding that their drone attack

00:46left numerous people dead, including four journalists from Sudan's state TV station.

00:53Army chief al-Burhan vowed he would not negotiate with the RSF.

00:59Under his command, the Sudanese army has secured steady advances in recent months, and supporters

01:04are rejoicing.

01:07This is a great day, a day of victory.

01:10The liberation of the presidential palace means a lot to us, and is the beginning of

01:14the end for the RSF.

01:20But the gained battle doesn't mean that the end of the war is near.

01:24The rapid support forces, which began establishing a parallel government earlier this year, still

01:30hold large parts of the country, particularly in the western Darfur region.

01:36Since the conflict's outbreak in April 2023, the war has killed tens of thousands of people,

01:43displaced more than 12 million, and caused the world's largest humanitarian crisis, according

01:49to the UN.
