Councillor Sam Smith, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council here at Oak House which is the
00:05
council's new building. This new building is going to house our customer services
00:09
team and our safeguarding partnership teams who are currently in rented
00:13
accommodation. Rented accommodation that's costing the taxpayers of
00:16
Nottinghamshire over £200,000 a year. I don't want to be spending that money on
00:21
rent. I want to be spending that money on improving services for residents like
00:25
libraries, roads and schools and that's what we're going to do. We're moving
00:28
those services out of costly rented accommodation into new state-of-the-art
00:32
energy-efficient building Oak House which we can then save money and spend
00:38
it on services. We're also putting our council officers here so that's where
00:42
councillors will sit in the council chamber and make decisions for the
00:45
residents of Nottinghamshire. By doing so it's saving over nearly £2 million
00:49
a year on upkeep of County Hall which is a costly thing. Again by moving here
00:54
we can save that £2 million and invest it into public services. That's
00:58
what Oak House is delivering for the residents of Nottinghamshire.
