Nottinghamshire County Council's new headquarters in Hucknall opens for business

Nottinghamshire County Council has opened doors of its new headquarters at Top Wighay between Hucknall and Linby with the first business at the new building being a full council meeting.

00:00Councillor Sam Smith, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council here at Oak House which is the

00:05council's new building. This new building is going to house our customer services

00:09team and our safeguarding partnership teams who are currently in rented

00:13accommodation. Rented accommodation that's costing the taxpayers of

00:16Nottinghamshire over £200,000 a year. I don't want to be spending that money on

00:21rent. I want to be spending that money on improving services for residents like

00:25libraries, roads and schools and that's what we're going to do. We're moving

00:28those services out of costly rented accommodation into new state-of-the-art

00:32energy-efficient building Oak House which we can then save money and spend

00:38it on services. We're also putting our council officers here so that's where

00:42councillors will sit in the council chamber and make decisions for the

00:45residents of Nottinghamshire. By doing so it's saving over nearly £2 million

00:49a year on upkeep of County Hall which is a costly thing. Again by moving here

00:54we can save that £2 million and invest it into public services. That's

00:58what Oak House is delivering for the residents of Nottinghamshire.
