00:00So, this morning, a week on from the general election, I'm speaking to Tom Hunt, the leader
00:06of Sheffield City Council. Tom, do you want to give me your reflections on the last week
00:11and also what you're hoping for a new Labour government for the city of Sheffield?
00:14Well, I think what we've seen in the first week of a Labour government is that we now,
00:19after 14 long years of Conservative government, have a Labour government that is working in
00:25the interests of working people in this city and across the country. As a council leader,
00:32we have had to put up with a government over the last 14 years that's been constantly at
00:37our throat, whereas now I know that we've got ministers in a Labour government who will
00:42be at our back, working with us to make sure that local, regional and national government
00:48are working closely together to tackle the big issues that we face, making sure that
00:54we're building enough homes that our city needs, making sure that we're getting our
00:58economy growing, that we're hiring more teachers for our schools and that we're really tackling
01:05the climate crisis by setting up innovative things like GB Energy so that we tackle the
01:12cost of living crisis by bringing down people's energy bills. These are good, great first
01:18steps from a Labour government and I will be making sure that Sheffield's voice is heard
01:22loud and clear within government.
