00:00Gavin Cromwell is best known for his exploits as a National Hunt Trainer, but in recent

00:05years he has added two-year-olds to his string in the hope of being able to trade them on.

00:10With some Royal Ascot winners under his belt, he looks to expand this side of his business

00:15and he tells TDN about it as well as the new facilities he's put in place that will hopefully

00:20help this venture thrive.

00:23We've bought yearlings and taken the approach to trade them and that's been going quite

00:30well.

00:31We've had a few that have run well and won their maidens and got them sold and hopefully

00:39they'll go on and train on.

00:42We've put in a new wood chip straight gallop, which is five furlongs linked to a two-and-a-half

00:49furlong circle.

00:50It gives us a good opportunity to get them, work them on a straight line and up a hill

00:54and hopefully it'll prove to be a good nursery for horses to go on.

00:59Royal Ascot's been very good to us.

01:01Quick Susie was my first runner at Royal Ascot.

01:04She won the Queen Mary, which was fantastic.

01:07I'd never been to Royal Ascot and I'd always said I'd love to go, so it was a good start

01:13to it.

01:14And then we had Snelling, won the Chesham, which was our second runner at Royal Ascot.

01:19We had two runners there this year and they ran really well, so my Zee was third in the

01:26Copper Horse and we also had Mighty Aru running the Queen Mary and she was second, so it's

01:33been good to us.

01:34We had a little over 20 of them last season, or two rows this season, so hopefully that'll

01:42grow this year.

01:43We'll be taking the same approach again, buying horses to hopefully trade them.

01:47I think it's a good part of the business and it's predominantly a jumps trainer, but it's

01:52a nice side to the business.

01:54The new gallop, it's a massive help to us.

01:57We have the comfort of not having to load them on lorries and take them away to do our

02:01fast work, just to get them in a straight line and educate them.

02:05Lovely wood chip, nice kind surface and it's a huge help to keep them nice and sound.

02:11Kevin and Anna have been a huge help.

02:14We bought very well last year, all down to their help.

02:18Horses that not necessarily buy very fashionable sires, but nice individuals and horses that

02:26I think anyone who's come to look at the ones that we have sold, I've liked them straight

02:32away.

02:33They're very saleable horses and nice individuals and that's very important.
