05:08The key thing is that the livestock prices are holding.
05:11They are, but of course, you've got to repair some of them.
05:14It becomes slightly more difficult.
05:16You've got shepherds.
05:18But they're not shepherds. They don't keep trees.
05:21I've got some. They don't.
05:23Or vineyards.
05:25Or vineyards.
05:27A little bit of that.
05:29And not too many of them.
05:32We'll keep an eye on them.
05:38...for 22 weeks.
05:42And then they have a probationary period of two years.
05:46So where they also get support and help along the way.
05:48And they can do specialist training.
05:50Yeah.
05:52...I was involved in...
05:56APPLAUSE
06:14Ladies and gentlemen, if I may say so,
06:16it really is an enormous pleasure
06:19to have this brief opportunity to see you all.
06:23And even though you probably never knew I was coming
06:26until you found yourselves in here,
06:29I did want to say what a marvellous opportunity it is
06:33to see quite so many people serving in the police service here.
06:38And I've enjoyed enormously having a chance
06:41to meet some of you going round.
06:43And I'm so pleased that there are these remarkable facilities here.
06:48Which I hope make an enormous difference to so many of you.
06:52I saw some rather pained-looking people
06:55in a torture chamber on the way past...
06:57LAUGHTER
06:59..doing unmentionable exercises.
07:01And also, if I may say so, I was so impressed to see
07:05that the work going on to provide young people
07:09and others from different communities
07:11to have a chance to play on the sports pitches and so on.
07:15Because I'm sure that sort of exercise makes such a difference
07:20to community relations
07:22and to relations between communities and the police.
07:26And I just particularly wanted to say, on this occasion,
07:31just how greatly I admire the way in which you deal, all of you,
07:36with so many different challenges that I know you have to face.
07:42And I know a little bit about the amount of work
07:46that has to go into planning and preparation
07:49for so many different operations and others.
07:52But you are the thin green line
07:55which makes such an enormous difference
07:58to keeping so many people safe at the end of the day.
08:01And the fact that you're prepared to do all this
08:05and that somehow your families understand
08:09and give you such support
08:11is the remarkable thing.
08:13So I just wanted you to know that we owe you, collectively,
08:18an enormous debt of gratitude
08:20which can never really be paid enough, I think.
08:23I certainly don't take for granted what you all do, by any means.
08:28And, as I say, my admiration knows no bounds for you all.
08:34I see you all in uniform dotted about
08:37in different parts of the country.
08:40And it's always so reassuring to know you're there
08:44as I'm sure so many other communities feel the same.
08:48So I don't think you'll ever get thanked enough.
08:51But my opportunity today is to say thank you
08:54more than I can possibly say
08:56for all your service over so many years
08:59and in such a wonderfully effective way.
09:03Well done, everybody. Thank you.
