A team of police officers and staff from Dyfed-Powys Police have cycled 75 miles across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, taking in the likes of Tenby and Newgale, in memory of all the force’s officers who have lost their lives in service, whilst raising funds for the admirable work of the Care Of Police Survivors (COPS) charity.
In a first of its kind event, a group of around 35 cyclists representing Dyfed-Powys Police hit 75 hilly miles, with riders following a route which started in Fishguard and eventually finished at police headquarters in Carmarthen, when they took on the challenge (also known as ‘The Chief’s Tour’) on May 6.
A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police shared: “Thank you to everyone who took part, supported and donated – together we raised £2,690!
“We are very grateful to COPS who have supported the family of DPP officers who have lost their lives on duty over the years, by arranging local and national support events to bring survivors together to build friendships and networks.
“Along the route, we meet family members of the fallen officers in a series of locations for moments of reflection. Those we’ve lost will always remain in our thoughts.
“A huge thank you to our community for showing our Chief’ Tour cyclists support as they passed through Pembs. Your cheers, waves and encouragement kept spirits high for those taking part!” they added.
Chief Constable Ifan Charles said: “This event is a moment for communities, Dyfed-Powys Police, and families to come together to remember officers and staff whose lives were sadly cut short – and ensure their memory lives on.”
“It was important to me to build moments of reflection into the route to make sure we remember the Dyfed-Powys Police officers who never made it home,” he added.
