00:00In case you don't know, this is Gall's good friend, Patty Jenkins!
00:07Thank you!
00:10Hi!
00:11Thank you!
00:12Thank you, everybody.
00:14Wow, I am so honored to be here and so excited.
00:18I, like, was crying this morning, and so overwhelmed.
00:21Like, what an incredible honor.
00:23I think we all enter, you know, our art form and our industry,
00:28and no matter what, we know the significance of these stars,
00:32and we may not think about them,
00:34but it's people who have left an indelible mark on this art form.
00:38And so, what an honor to be here with you,
00:41who has done that so many times over, Gal.
00:44Thank you, Vin, for the most beautiful speech
00:46and for bringing her into our life,
00:48and I've enjoyed it, you know.
00:50I've got a lot more to say.
00:54So, I think what's remarkable is hearing that story from Vin
01:00about what family she's become to you,
01:02and that's the experience I've had and has everything to do with this.
01:05You may not realize how close Gal and I have become as well,
01:09but we're not only, you know, have we worked together hundreds
01:12and hundreds of days, literally,
01:14but we've also, our friends have become super close family,
01:17you know, family friends.
01:19We've traveled together.
01:20We lived together for a while during the pandemic,
01:22and we've been through all kinds of highs, lows, extreme efforts,
01:26absolute bliss.
01:28And so, here are a couple of my favorite things I get to say about Gal.
01:32My first favorite thing is,
01:34is there are a lot of people honored on these streets,
01:36and they've made profound contributions to the art form,
01:39but as my years as a director have taught me,
01:42there's very few movie stars.
01:45It's a real thing, you know.
01:47A lot of people come around this industry,
01:49and they think like, oh, everybody could do it if they had their chance.
01:52No, they can't.
01:53It's a phenomenon to have somebody who can be your hero,
01:59your lover, your villain, your warrior,
02:02and always draw your eye, no matter where you go,
02:05because, and it's a very strange thing to be friends with a movie star,
02:09because on the one hand, you're my BFF on set who I'm shooting the shit with.
02:13I'm waiting for you to show up so I can complain to you about things, right?
02:18But then time and time again, we're just sitting around hanging out,
02:21and all of us on the Wonder Woman films know each other so well,
02:24that we're like, okay, blah, and Gal steps in front of the camera,
02:27and people gasp.
02:29Me, too.
02:30We're all saying, oh, my God.
02:32Look.
02:34Look at her.
02:35Look at this, and then she starts to perform,
02:37and you say, my God, that's a movie star.
02:40She's a movie star, and it doesn't hurt that we all love her, too,
02:43so everybody on set, but I can't tell you how many times that's happened.
02:46Like, me and the script supervisor and the DP are like, my God.
02:49She's incredible.
02:51The second reason I love you, Gal,
02:53is that during all those hundreds of days that we've shot together,
02:56you've managed to dazzle me with incredible performances,
02:59but does anybody want to know how she's giving those performances?
03:02Would you like to know how?
03:04Where do I even begin?
03:06Quite often, she's in a swimsuit, in outdoors, in the winter,
03:11in the wet and stormy gales of the English winter,
03:14but not a comfortable swimsuit.
03:16It's one made of a rigid armor, squeezing her corset-like tight
03:21as she runs through knee-deep mud in platform wedges
03:26or sand on a sweltering beach or underwater
03:29or suspended in the air, sideways, maybe upright, maybe upside down,
03:33maybe fans blasting in her face as she acts to a green screen
03:37or flying through the air on Cirque du Soleil-worthy wire rigs,
03:41fighting stunt performers,
03:43and I really could go on and on because that's just like literally...
03:46I started pulling up the photos last night and I was dying
03:49because I was like, we've got to make a book of just you
03:51in these strange contraptions.
03:53When people think of actors, all they imagine is the glamour,
03:57but the truth is Gal has had the least glamorous job I can imagine
04:00and yet never stopped from giving powerful performances,
04:04somehow always being the happiest, kindest, most loving,
04:08most heroic person on the set, Gal.
04:10How? I don't know.
04:12As I said, I'm waiting for you for me to complain.
04:15You never complain, you know, and blowing me away every single day,
04:20which brings me to the last wonderful thing I want to say,
04:23and I could go on and on, so I had to really limit myself.
04:26Some have heard me talk about the profound effect Superman had on me.
04:30It reached me at a moment where it really inspired me to believe in myself
04:34and to be the person that I thought I could be
04:36so I know what these movies can do
04:38and I know what inspiring the next generation means.
04:41So Gal took the job with the same attitude as me.
04:45We took it very seriously, but I think the most special thing for me, truly,
04:49was all of the time that we traveled together and went places together
04:52was watching when a kid would reach up and Gal would kneel down
04:56and she would reach out to a fan.
04:58I said, I'm so grateful because she is the real thing, you know?
05:04She's...
05:06She's...
05:18These kids are not being met by an actor.
05:21They're not being met by someone who's just acting like it.
05:24She is Wonder Woman.
05:26She's the most wonderful, kind, gracious person.
05:29What a gift to have someone like that embody a hero
05:32that I care so much about, Wonder Woman.
05:35So there are lots of reasons to receive a star.
05:37There are so many different reasons to be in this industry.
05:40I'm so honored to have gotten to walk through this
05:42with someone who's really here to make the world a better place
05:45and it's a much better place for you in it.
05:47I'm so proud of you.
