00:00Patti Jenkins to the stage.
00:04Hello.
00:05Well, first of all, I just want to say when Christina reached out to me to do this, I'm
00:19so honored.
00:20I like, I can't tell you, I'm going to get teary because you hold such a special place
00:25in my heart.
00:27And I mean, what was shocking to me was I can't believe that you don't already have
00:3240 stars, you know, because that we just heard that long list of credits.
00:38Now I have them here too.
00:40And when I, because I, you know, I didn't know whether they were going to be mentioned
00:43or not.
00:44And I was like, my God, this, so a Hollywood walk of fame, they honor so many different
00:51things.
00:52But I think that because Hollywood is so famous as a film town, the place of these stars in
00:56cinema is something that we all really associate it with.
01:00And every single person who dreamed of being in movies as a kid or making movies as a kid,
01:05this is a special thing, you know, to have this star.
01:10And it really takes like one great memory or impression to be somebody who deserves
01:16one of those stars.
01:17But Christina has like 59, like what's going on with that?
01:22You actually have done 59 movies.
01:24That's movies.
01:25That's short films or television.
01:27Like it's insane.
01:28And they're so good and so very, very different.
01:33And so, you know, I was lucky enough to get to make Monster with Christina and it was
01:40such a profoundly beautiful experience.
01:43And I, I have always felt that actually it was such an incredibly brave performance that
01:50Christina gave, that because what Charlize did was so shocking to everybody that it never
01:57got talked about enough, that you really, you took, you took the unglamorous, unlikable
02:02role and you played it with such commitment.
02:06And it's such a stunning performance.
02:09Every time I rewatch the film, I'm like, my God, Christina is like a hero.
02:13She knew she was never, you even, we talked about it at the time.
02:15You were like, it's not the glory roll for me, but I believe in the project.
02:19And you took one for the team and you played this glorious thing to set up somebody else's
02:23performance.
02:24Incredible.
02:25But the interesting thing about how Christina got cast was, I actually thought Christina
02:30was too good looking for the role because we'd already, I'd already cast Charlize Theron
02:34and you know, we were already the laughing stock.
02:37People thought, you know, Charlize Theron before they saw what we were going to do.
02:42But actually I did a chemistry to, I'd be so lucky to get her to say yes.
02:47The interesting thing was when I did a chemistry test with Christina and Charlize, I was like,
02:53nothing I'd ever seen.
02:54I have seen Charlize around a million people.
02:56She's a big, powerful presence, can be very intimidating.
03:00And people just disappeared around her.
03:02I would put her opposite other people and they would just go silent.
03:06And I remember so young, you're so young at the time, and in comes Charlize, you know,
03:10big energy and in comes Christina, okay, thank you.
03:14And I was like, oh my God, this is the most secretly powerful person I have ever seen
03:20in my life.
03:21She's a dynamo.
03:23She's so intelligent.
03:25She clearly has such good taste.
03:28And the last thing I want to say is really to act, I think people don't always understand
03:32what acting is.
03:33You have to live those parts.
03:35Some part of you has to take that into your spirit.
03:38I know that when we did Monster, it was very taxing because that story actually has to
03:41kind of live and breathe inside of you.
03:44I'm so grateful for the amount of different characters that you've taken on and the things
03:49that you've done for us as an artist.
03:53And I honor it.
03:54I love you so much, Christina.
03:56I'm so honored to be here.
03:57I'm so proud of you and the career that you have made.
04:01And I've loved watching you every step of the way.
04:03So congratulations, Christina.
04:05I love you.
