00:00The seat negotiation process between parties that want to work together in the next Sabah
00:06elections must prioritize agreements at both the federal and state levels.
00:13This is one of the few key principles former Sabah Chief Minister Saleh Saikarak had outlined
00:19to guide the seat negotiation process ahead of the upcoming state election, which must
00:24be held by October.
00:27Saleh said seats should be allocated to the party that has the best chance of winning
00:32based on past election performance.
00:36The Sabah UMNO treasurer said the allocation of seats must take into account the interests
00:41of all coalition partners to ensure political stability and prevent internal tensions.
00:49He also said the party's machinery, the results of voter surveys and sentiment analysis must
00:55also be taken into account.
00:58Saleh said retaining an incumbent with strong support should be prioritized, but pointed
01:03out that those who had switched parties or whose support had weakened may need to be
01:08reconsidered.
