00:00The Palace dismissed claims that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured Senator Bato de la Rosa
00:05that he would not be pursued by the International Criminal Court or ICC.
00:10The Palace also clarified that no such conversation took place between the president and the senator.
00:16PTV's Kenneth Paciente has more on this story.
00:21The arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte is not betrayal or treason.
00:26That was the statement from the Palace following the government's compliance
00:30with the Interpol after the International Criminal Court or ICC
00:34issued an arrest warrant against Duterte.
00:36They said it was merely following what is stated in the law.
00:56The government also assured that even though the ICC now has the custody of the former president,
01:09it remains obligated to ensure a fair trial.
01:12However, the government will no longer be responsible for Duterte's legal defense.
01:27The government is also ready to comply if the ICC issues a freeze order
01:41on Duterte's assets in accordance with Philippine law.
01:44Meanwhile, Castro said the president did not mention any promise to Senator Bato de la Rosa
01:49that the ICC would not take action against him.
01:52And if an arrest warrant is issued against the senator through Interpol,
01:56the government will still cooperate.
02:16The Palace is confident that Senate President Chiz Escudero knows what to do
02:20after de la Rosa sought his help regarding de la Rosa's claim that this is a demolition
02:25job against him.
02:38Moreover, the Palace also said it understands the reaction of the Duterte family when the
02:42former president was arrested, stating that it is only natural for them to feel that way
02:47since a family member is involved.
02:49However, the Palace stressed that people should not forget the root of the former president's
02:53arrest amid the continued protest by his supporters.
03:23The Palace emphasized that even if the UNITIM remained intact, the government's actions
03:27regarding the arrest warrant against Duterte will remain the same as it is mandated by law.
