Are unreliable trains making rail travel worse value for money?

With the worst stations for cancellations revealed, we ask locals about their recent train experiences. Do frequent cancellations put them off using the rail network, and is it unfair to pay higher fares for unreliable services?

00:00I think the train service has been pretty poor recently to be honest it's not really

00:05improved since Covid when we've sort of all come back into Birmingham. I think as the

00:10prices rise then you start to come to a position where actually travelling by car is going

00:16to be more economical which obviously isn't great for the environment. Yes I think that

00:21the public at the end of the day they have a duty not to like drive their cars and leave

00:26them at home and take public transport and I think it's unfair if the prices are not

00:30really meeting the wages or it's not really helping the people to like park up their cars

00:37and use the public transport. So it's not beneficial is it financially? No not at all

00:42because like I recently paid for a train ticket and it was just like it was just like from

00:48one stop to another and the price was like seven pounds like you'd rather take a bus

00:52than a train and like I would say it's not worth it to put the prices up like that.
