00:00The Malayan Nurses' Union has urged the government to review allowances for nursing staff,
00:07especially the RM1,000 monthly federal allowance for those serving outside their home states.
00:13Union President Saida Athman said the review should take into account the excessive pressure
00:18faced by nurses, who are separated from their families as well as work pressure and increased
00:24cost of living. She said nurses from Sabah and Sarawak serving in the peninsula get an
00:30additional federal allowance of RM1,000 a month and this rate has never been reviewed. Saida said
00:37the government should not only review this federal allowance but all allowances available to them to
00:42prevent more nurses from quitting their jobs. On Friday, Sarawak Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian
00:49said more than 800 nurses from Sarawak serving elsewhere wish to serve in their home state.
00:55Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Luka Nisman Awang Sawni was reported as saying 1,754 nurses
01:02have resigned in the last five years, with 27.98% of the resignations being for personal reasons.
