Hello and welcome to the Metal Viz forecast for the weekend.
00:04
Colder weather is set to return next week, but before that happens, it's actually going
00:08
to turn a little warmer for a few days.
00:10
Heading into the weekend, an area of low pressure dives south, replaces the high that's been
00:14
sitting to the south of the UK all week, and brings a warmer plume of air from the near
00:20
continent on a southerly airflow.
00:23
Now we're in between two weather fronts across much of the UK in an area known as the warm
00:27
sector, so it's relatively mild air and most places frost free starting off Saturday.
00:32
It's also for most a dry and bright start, but there are a couple of exceptions.
00:37
The boundaries of this warm sector are two weather fronts, one lingering around Orkney
00:42
and then into Shetland throughout Saturday, bringing a lot of cloud and some dampness,
00:46
and another front just bringing a thickening of the cloud there across parts of Northern
00:49
Ireland into Wales and the southwest of England.
00:52
Showery rain associated with this, the most persistent weather, or rain I should say,
00:57
across Cornwall along with a keen breeze.
01:00
That's going to make it feel on the cool side if you're around the south coast or the east
01:05
coast, but inland, out of the breeze, plenty of bright weather through much of the rest
01:10
of England, much of Wales, southern and western Scotland as well, and some bright interludes
01:15
for Northern Ireland.
01:16
And where we've got the brightness and where we've got some shelter from the breeze, it's
01:21
going to feel very pleasant indeed.
01:22
Fifteen or sixteen Celsius fairly widely inland, and in one or two spots, the potential for
01:27
seventeen, eighteen, perhaps even close to nineteen degrees.
01:32
Later Saturday, there's actually little change.
01:35
Weather fronts linger across the far north of Scotland.
01:38
Low pressure lingers off the coast of Iberia, and that will continue to churn up areas of
01:43
showers circulating around this area of low pressure, and most likely affecting parts
01:48
of the southwest of England, particularly again Cornwall.
01:52
So whilst many parts of the UK will experience a dry and bright weekend, if you're in Cornwall
01:57
and some parts of South Devon for example, it is going to be generally damp with some
02:01
heavier rain for a time early Sunday, that pushing up through the rest of Devon into
02:05
Somerset later in the day.
02:07
A lot of cloud associated with this for much of the south and southwest into Wales as well.
02:13
And at the other end of the country, we've again got cloudier skies and outbreaks of
02:16
persistent rain, particularly for Shetland.
02:19
But in between, once more, plenty of dry and bright weather.
02:23
Just an indication there of some fog coming into the east of England towards the end of
02:27
the afternoon.
02:28
But for many, where we've got the dry and bright weather, where we've got some shelter
02:32
from the winds, temperatures reaching sixteen, perhaps seventeen degrees, so perfectly pleasant.
02:37
That's all about to change however through the start of next week.
02:40
You can see an area of high pressure to the north of the UK starts to extend southwards,
02:45
but that's associated with much colder air coming in from the north.
02:49
And the isobars tighten up for a time as well.
02:51
So with cold northerly winds, we're likely to see one or two wintry showers across the
02:55
north and the east of the UK, drier and brighter once again towards the southwest.
03:00
We lose those showers that will be affecting the southwest of England through the weekend,
03:05
sunnier skies replacing them, but it's going to feel cold in that wind and with colder
03:08
air moving south across the country, expect throughout next week, plenty of frosty mornings.
03:15
But once the frost disappears in the morning, I think we'll see a bit more sunshine through
03:19
the afternoons of next week.
03:21
Before all that, a pleasantly warm weekend for many away from the rainier parts of the
03:26
southwest and the far north.
