Leeds: Conflicts and being called-up

How concerned are you about the UK getting involved in international conflicts and would you be prepared to serve our country?

00:00Certainly, I would defend my country, my county and my town 100%.

00:06And I think it'd be nice if people today just realised

00:11what those 20-year-olds' lives were lost in 1939 to 45, or even 14, 18.

00:19What we owe those guys, we can't start to understand.

00:24We've been so lucky to have lived in peace for such a long time

00:28for most of us, that actually I think it's very difficult for us

00:31in our world, in our local world, to have any concept of what war looks like

00:35and yet there's so much war and loss around the world.

00:38My eldest is 19 and the thought of him signing up to fight feels horrendous

00:42and yet that's what people have done down the ages

00:45and that's what we've needed to do to protect peace.

00:48My dad fought during the Second World War and survived

00:53and was proud to serve his country.

00:56I hope other people will be able to do so too.
